Operation Red Book
Chapter 128: Lies Exposed in the Prayer Room 1
The night was dim, and the people on August Street had finished a day's work and lit the lights in their rooms.
The warm yellow lights illuminate the entire street, making it look particularly warm and happy.
But this happiness did not extend to the Florence Orphanage at the end of the street.
Policemen were lying in ambush in the bushes surrounding the welfare home, with long gun barrels sticking out from the green leaves, pointing at the figures in the windows.
Ivy held the revolver in both hands, with the muzzle pointed at Grace's forehead.
Haley clung to Ivy's back, her eyes rolling around as she looked at the amiable woman in front of her with resentment.
Grace was holding a dim yellow glass oil lamp, and remained calm in the face of the dark gun muzzle.
She blinked slowly and sighed softly.
"What do you want to make clear? Miss Ivy." Grace said calmly.
"Let's start from here, Grace." Ivy said calmly.
"There's something in that scented oil over there that can put the children into a deep sleep, right?"
"Yes, it's the medicine Mr. Morris gave me. It has a sleeping and sedative effect, which can ensure that the children can sleep well."
"Or it may make it easier for you to act at night." Ivy added calmly.
"No child ever gets adopted, does he?"
"Yes, adoption is just an excuse. The children who go out on the flower carriage will be sent back late at night."
"Just now, you caught that fat boy, Luke, right?"
"Mr. Morris asked for him today, so I put some anesthetic on him, knocked him out, and brought him to Mr. Morris."
"Didn't Mr. Morris go to Liverpool?" Haley said in horror.
"He has been in this welfare home all the time." Ivy responded in a low voice.
Hailey couldn't help but whimper behind Ivy. Grace tilted her head and looked at her with a chilling voice:
"Oops, it seems the dosage of the sesame oil isn't big enough... I'll add more next time. Go to bed, Haley."
"Shut up!" Ivy shouted, raising the gun higher in her hand.
"I don't understand, Miss Ivy, have I done anything wrong in wanting my children to go to heaven happily?" Grace said lightly with cold eyes.
"I don't understand you, Grace. Being sold to mines and factories, having your organs taken out alive, having your heart pierced with a dagger, and having your soul sacrificed to the devil, how can this be related to happiness and heaven?"
Grace froze for a moment, frowned, and asked sharply, "What are you talking about? What is this?"
Ivy's expression remained unchanged as she replied in a cold voice: "This is what you do every day, trafficking in human beings, buying and selling organs, and even sacrificing to the devil in front of the cross!"
"You are talking nonsense!" Grace shouted angrily, "Mr. Morris is a most devout believer and would never do such a shameful thing!"
Ivy frowned even deeper, and she lowered her voice: "Don't you know anything?"
"Yes, that's different from what Mr. Morris said."
Grace uttered the syllables softly, her face pale, and the candlelight in the oil lamp swayed from side to side, trembling slightly.
"Mr. Morris told me that the children were not happy in their adoptive families. Those nobles just wanted to gain a good reputation."
"We are no longer open for adoption. When Master Dorian came today, I thought it was very strange, but Mr. Morris said he would take care of it and told me not to take it too seriously."
Ivy blinked guiltily. "It turns out we were exposed from the very beginning." She thought with lingering fear.
"That's what Mr. Morris said about sending the children to the prayer room every night."
"Rather than letting the children suffer in orphanages, it is better to send them to churches for education," he said. Churches across the UK want to take in these orphans.
"When I asked the children if they were willing, they all smiled innocently, even though there were tears of reluctance in their eyes."
"That moment was when I was the saddest and the happiest."
Grace touched the red backrest of the bench, her eyes full of tenderness.
When she talked about this, Ivy saw a motherly smile appear on her face and her voice became calm and gentle.
"This kind of thing cannot be known to others, otherwise it will lead to impeachment and attack from the pagans, so I secretly transfer them every night and bring the children pretending to be adopted here."
Ivy gradually put down the gun in her hand, and looking at the emotions revealed by Grace, she was suddenly moved.
If Grace was sincere, then the only one who should be damned was Morris who deceived her.
