Operation Red Book

Chapter 126 Checks and Balances in the Basement

Holmes took Henry and Emily to hide in a storage room nearby.

As the wooden door of the storage room closed, all sounds from the outside world were cut off.

The storage room was filled with the dry smell of stale goods, and the air was filled with fine dust, which was unpleasant to breathe into the mouth.

After a few minutes, the three of them began to feel hot and dry mouth.

Henry and Emily each held Holmes on one side, and the three of them groped their way forward in the darkness.

Henry knocked over a can from time to time, and Emily accidentally pulled down a bag of corn.

Holmes simply put the pistol back into his waistband and skillfully took out a box of matches.

With a "swish", the match was easily lit, and the scene in front of him was illuminated by the faint light of the match.

Emily was more careful and found candles and glass covers on the wall.

Holmes lit candles one by one, the light drove away the darkness, and the entire basement became bright.

The basement is approximately 100 square meters, and half of it is occupied by stored goods alone. It looks very ordinary, no different from an ordinary family's basement.

Bags of grain, rolls of linen, and several boxes of canned food were piled up together. The three of them gathered in front of the cargo and checked the condition of the grain bags.

There was a slight sound behind them, and the wooden door they had entered through was locked from the outside, locking the three of them in the small space.

Holmes was startled and hurriedly slammed his body against the wooden door, but the heavy door did not move at all, only some yellow dust fell off.

Holmes drew the pistol from his waist and pointed it at the door lock.

Just as he was about to pull the trigger, the thought of not alerting the enemy popped up in his mind, forcing the sweat down his forehead.

"Uh, uh——" Emily was abducted by a dark shadow behind her, leaving behind a short moan.

Holmes quickly raised his gun and turned around, pulling Henry behind him.

A fat, bald man took Emily hostage and retreated to the front of the goods.

There was a dagger against Emily's neck, which had cut her flesh and drawn bright red blood.

The man had a ferocious expression and looked evil in the shadows. As soon as he appeared, the air was immediately filled with a disgusting smell of blood.

He was wearing a dusty black suit and had a brown umbrella on his waist with a long section sticking out of the top that looked like a long sword.

"Mr. Morris? Didn't you go to Liverpool?" Henry said fearfully while hiding behind Holmes.

"This is not your concern, little beast. Who is this? Why are you visiting the Florence Welfare Home at night?" Morris said in a hoarse voice, showing his yellow teeth.

"I am the famous Sherlock Holmes, and I have been ordered to investigate this cannibalistic orphanage." Holmes stared at Morris with sharp eyes.

"It is Mr. Holmes. Give my regards to your brother..."

"Stop talking nonsense. I already know what's going on in this orphanage. Human trafficking, organ trafficking, and the banned cult." Holmes interrupted Morris impatiently and said in a rough voice.

"Hehehe!" Morris let out a sinister laugh.

"I don't know how you found my account book, but it doesn't matter anymore. I was prepared. If I'm not mistaken, the police have already surrounded this place."

"Today, no one from this welfare home will be able to escape!" Morris said sternly.

"Calm down!" Holmes shouted.

"Put down the gun! Or I'll cut her throat!" Morris shouted.

Holmes's eyes became fierce. He stared at Morris's fat head and big ears, thinking of a plan in his mind.

"it is good."

Holmes continued to stare at Morris, slowly squatted down, and threw the gun in his hand far away.

"Where do you think you can escape to in the Queen's territory?" Holmes said calmly.

"I'll go to France, Germany, Japan, Mexico! What's a queen? There are places in the world where I can make a fortune!"

"Just to get rich? Is that how you treat a helpless orphan?"

"You, a pampered young man, have no right to say that!"

Morris raised his voice, his eyes were red and veins popped out on his forehead.

"How can you understand the plight of orphans? They can only cover themselves with newspapers to keep warm at night. They want to burrow into the soil when it snows. On Christmas, the whole family gathers together, but we can only watch others smile through the window."

"We were starving and cold, and our companions were beaten or frozen to death. When we finally managed to survive, we were dragged into the army to fight like garbage!"

"The sound of cannons, gunshots, the sound of killing, and the roar of the enemy... How can I survive under the Queen's feet if I don't become a villain!"

Morris's tears flowed down, and he exerted more force with the dagger in his hand, as if he was going to stab Emily's neck in the next second.

"You have no right to vent your grievances on the children! Using the organs of orphans to nourish those nobles, aren't you repeating the same mistakes?"

Holmes' hand secretly rested on the other pistol at his waist, ready for any emergency.

Emily closed her eyes tightly and her body stiffened. Henry also put his head on Holmes' waist and kept making the sign of the cross on his chest with his hands.

"You can't blame me. It's all your fault, the Queen's fault, Britain's fault, and God's fault!" Morris said angrily.

He took a deep breath, and in the blink of an eye his mood changed swiftly. He smiled a smile that was uglier than crying, and said hatefully, "You all must die, starting with you."

Holmes stared at Morris vigilantly, while Morris held Emily and walked slowly towards the pistol thrown on the ground.

"Pick it up for me, quickly!"

Maurice scolded Emily, and Emily had no choice but to open her hazy eyes and bend over to grope on the ground.

As Morris looked down at the pistol on the ground, Holmes saw an opening.

His pupils dilated and he raised the pistol at his waist.

Before Morris looked up, Holmes quickly pulled the trigger and shot Morris in the arm.
