Operation Red Book

Chapter 125: Night Visit to Florence Orphanage

Dorian clearly indicated that he would withdraw from the operation, and only Ivy and Holmes sneaked into the Florence Orphanage with guns.

When Ivy climbed over the low wall, she accidentally got hooked on a protruding nail, which directly tore her long skirt from the ankle to the thigh.

Ivy had long felt that the long skirt was inconvenient for movement, so she tore the skirt in half vertically, lifted the excess part to one side and tied a knot.

After this transformation, Ivy's clothes became much more convenient to wear, but they looked a little unsightly.

The two white and slender legs were directly exposed to the air, and the lantern-shaped underwear could be vaguely seen.

"Hailey is a really good little girl, calm, decisive and resourceful. She was the one who told me that it was most convenient to come in from here... What are you doing!?"

Holmes' shout startled Ivy. He turned his head quickly and led the way stiffly in front, with a blush visibly climbing up his earlobes.

Women in the 19th century were not allowed to show their thighs, which was something Mrs. Hudson often nagged about. It was the first time Holmes saw such wild behavior, so he was inevitably a little surprised.

"How disgraceful! How disgraceful! You...I'm going to tell Mrs. Hudson and let her deal with you!"

Ivy couldn't care less. The souls of the 21st century would not go backwards with the times. She snorted, "It will be like this for more than 200 years. Just don't watch it."

"You, you, you are like this..."

"Stop talking nonsense. Where are we going now? Did Hailey and you agree on a meeting place?"

Holmes paused, still leading the way, but his voice was a little stumbling: "Go, go to the bedroom on the second floor, Haley will greet us."

The two of them came to Florence's hall and went up the grand staircase at the door together.

The entire welfare home was buried in endless darkness, and the terrain could only be seen with the faint light coming in from the window.

There seemed to be sinister claws lurking in the darkness, waiting for the opportunity to drag anyone passing by into the darkness and bite them to death.

Ivy's heart was in her throat, and an unknown danger signal lingered in her mind.

Her palms were slightly sweaty, and the pistol she was holding started to slip, making her feel extremely insecure.

There were some figures standing at the door of the second floor. They were all short and one of them was still trembling.

"Hayley? Is that you?" Holmes asked tentatively.

The three figures paused, then rushed towards Holmes and Ivy in unison.

"Wow, wow, wow...Uncle Sherlock, you're finally here!"

Haley rushed to Holmes with tears and snot, and leaned over Holmes' stomach and sobbed softly.

The red-haired girl stood behind Haley with tears in her eyes, trying her best to hold back her tears.

Henry was the last one to walk tremblingly. His lips were pale and his legs were shaking violently, as if he would fall if he was not careful.

Ivy quickly stepped forward to support Henry, lowered her voice and asked, "What's wrong? Why are you so scared? Where's the little fat boy? Why isn't he with you?"

"Luke, Luke, Luke..."

Henry moved his mouth several times, but he just couldn't form a complete sentence.

"Uh... Luke was kidnapped... Henry was sleeping next to him and witnessed the whole thing... wuwuwu..." Haley calmed down her emotions, suppressed her sobs and explained the situation to the two of them.

"What! Did you see who took him away?" asked Holmes in a low voice.

"Ms. Grace..." Henry whispered the name.

Everyone was as if facing a great enemy and was choked with words for a moment. Ivy gently comforted Henry, an inexplicable fear growing in her heart.

"Go find him. You should be able to catch up with him. The locked wooden door on the first floor and the prayer room look very strange." Holmes patted Haley on the shoulder.

"Take us there, then you will probably find a lot of things you don't know."

Haley wiped her tears, said "hmm" with a nasal tone, and went down the stairs holding Ivy's hand.

"Miss Ivy has no money to buy clothes? Her skirt is torn, and, and..."

Henry was picked up by Holmes, and he whispered his questions in Holmes' ear.

Holmes laughed softly, tapped Henry's nose lightly, and said in a low voice, "Don't talk about a lady's clothes behind her back. It's not gentlemanly at all."

Ivy and her group arrived on the first floor. When they passed the corridor behind the stairs, she was surprised to find that the door that had been locked during the day was opened.

There was a crack in the wooden door, and darkness came through, making it difficult to see what was inside.

"This is the storage room. It contains some of the supplies that are stored on a daily basis." Haley explained to the two.

"Otherwise, let's split up. You, Haley, and Emily go to the prayer room, and Henry and I will go to the basement to take a look..." Holmes discussed with Ivy behind him.

Before Ivy could respond to Holmes, a soft whisper broke through the silent darkness:

"Haley? And... Miss Ivy?"

There was a noise behind them, and Holmes quickly grabbed Emily, and the three of them turned and slipped into the wooden door.

A dark yellow lantern came towards them, and Grace's delicate face appeared in the light. To Ivy and Haley, she looked no less than a demon crawling out of the ground.

"Why is your skirt torn? And what you are holding in your hand...is that a gun?"

Grace walked towards Ivy, and Haley hugged Ivy's waist in fear, with her little face pressed against her back.

Ivy's heart was pounding and sweat was dripping from her forehead.

In desperation, she raised the gun in her hand and pointed it at Grace who was moving forward, forcing her to stop a few meters away.

"Why are you visiting at this time and staying with Haley?" Grace's voice was emotionless.

"Did she bring you in?"

"You took Luke away, didn't you?" Ivy said coldly, but her inner panic did not cause her expression to panic.

"That's none of your business..."

"You say you love Florence's children, and this is how you treat them?"

"I didn't lie. I loved them very much. I treated them as my own children. I didn't mistreat them. This was all for the sake of their going to heaven."

"Absolutely ridiculous!"

Ivy's heart went cold. She sneered and slowly walked towards Grace with Haley.

"Did Maurice tell you that, or did God tell you that? I tell you clearly that you are harming these children."

"You have no right to criticize me, Miss Ivy. You know what you have done." Grace said as he backed away.

"Those words are just an attempt to trick you. They are not to be believed."

"God will not forgive you for lying."

"Really? You live in a world of lies. Did God come down to save you? Ha... I'm a little curious. How far have you gone? What do you know?"

The three of them walked and stopped, and then retreated to the front of the prayer room together. The white porcelain face of the statue glowed softly under the street lamp, and its lowered eyes were looking at the three people at the door.

Ivy pointed the gun towards the prayer room and said in an unquestionable tone: "Go in, and we will make everything clear before your merciful God."
