Wilderness Redemption Tour
Chapter 325 Wolf Hunting
Hamish made himself a cup of hot tea. He held the cup and stared out the window and said, "When I was outside a few nights ago, I found a huge female wolf following me. It had been staring at me for several days. I felt that it was going to attack me in the next two days. So I planned to get rid of it before it did so."
"You want to hunt wolves?" Sadie continued with interest, "Wolves are much more cunning than other animals. Apart from anything else, how can we find them?"
Hamish sat down and drank a sip of hot tea, then held up a finger and said, "One word, wait."
"Are we just waiting like this?" Lin Yan asked somewhat disappointedly. He thought that this time they would go to a place to hunt some animal just like the last time he went bear hunting with Hosea.
Hamish smiled apologetically. "Although it sounds a bit boring, this is indeed my plan. Listen, friends, it is not pleasant to be targeted by animals as prey. I don't want to live in fear like this anymore. Even if you don't come, I plan to compete with it today."
"Can't we go out and do something else while waiting for it to come? Wouldn't it be too boring just to wait like this?"
"Sorry, no." Hamish rejected Lin Yan's proposal and explained, "Wolves are very cautious animals. Once they find traces of strangers around me, they will never show up. So in order to make it show up, I have to inconvenience you two. But I won't let you just sit here. I'm also good at telling stories. It's a nice thing to sit here and listen to stories while drinking coffee or tea, isn't it?"
"Okay then." Without waiting for Lin Yan to answer, Sadie made the decision for him. "I hope your story will satisfy us."
“Oh, of course.” Hamish grinned. “I’m telling you stories you haven’t heard anywhere else, I promise.”
After listening to him, Lin Yan made a gesture of invitation. Hamish, who received the response, took another sip of hot tea and then began to speak vividly.
Hamish talks about his previous military experience, interspersed with some anecdotes he personally experienced while in the army or heard from other soldiers, but the focus of the story is still on the war scenes.
Hamish spoke for more than two hours. Lin Yan knew that there must be some exaggeration in his story, but he and Sadie still listened with great interest.
"...there were corpses everywhere. I couldn't even touch the ground with my boots when I walked from one end of the battlefield to the other." Having said this, Hamish picked up the teacup again, but found that there was no water in the cup.
"Do you want more water?" he asked as he stood up and walked to the sink, ready to pick up the kettle to add a glass of water to himself.
Hamish glanced out the window out of habit and instantly perked up.
"Ouch~"
Without any warning, Hamish, with his back to Lin Yan and Sadie, let out a high-pitched wolf howl, which scared the two of them. Lin Yan even thought that he had seen the full moon and was about to transform.
Under the gaze of the two, Hamish finally did not do anything surprising. "Haha..." He laughed and took out a pair of small binoculars from the cabinet next to him and put them on his eyes.
"Look what that is..."
Lin Yan and Sadie were attracted by his actions and stood up and walked to the window one after another.
Hamish held up the telescope and observed while saying to the two guests who came to his side: "Do you see it? It's over there, on the rock on the opposite hillside."
Lin Yan followed the instructions in the other party's words and looked out the window at the hillside. Amidst the green mountains, a bare rock stood out. On top of the rock, a huge gray wolf was squatting. The wolf stared straight at Hamish's house, as if it was monitoring him.
"It's really unscrupulous..." Hamish said as he put down the telescope, picked up the hunting rifle hanging on the wall, and called to Lin Yan and Sadie: "Come on, it's hunting time."
Walking out of the room, Hamish, who had been staring in that direction, suddenly quickened his pace and urged, "Hurry, I saw it go to the left and is still by the lake."
Without waiting for Lin Yan and Sadie to mount their horses, Hamish, who had mounted his horse first, rushed out. "Hurry, it moves very fast, and it already knows that I am not alone, don't let it run away."
After catching up with Hamish, Sadie noticed something was wrong. "Strange, wolves shouldn't be so close to humans."
"That's exactly what I've been wondering about." Hamish said he was equally puzzled. "Wolves should be afraid of humans. We shouldn't be on their menu."
"Could it be that they don't have enough food, so they're targeting you?" Lin Yan guessed.
"It's a possibility." Hamish stared at the gray figure in the forest. "When the whole country was a wilderness, these guys could go wherever they wanted. Now they can only choose to hide in this environment that we have temporarily abandoned. Not only them, but many animals' living space has been occupied by humans, and a lot of food that originally belonged to them has entered our stomachs. They can't get enough food, maybe that's why they are targeting me."
"Yes, I understand this feeling very well."
Somehow, Lin Yan thought of the Van der Linde gang. Aren't they just like the wolves now? They used to come and go freely, but from a certain moment, their living space began to shrink, and then it became uncontrollable. They frequently changed their habitats, and finally offended the wrong people, and turned from hunters into prey in the eyes of others.
"It ran up there, on the rock formation. Did you see it? Let's go around it." Hamish's attention was focused on the animal, and he didn't care at all about what Lin Yan said.
"Okay, we'll follow you."
Lin Yan and the other person followed Hamish and left the main road, walking diagonally up a steep hillside. The hillside without a road was rugged and difficult to walk on, but fortunately the vegetation on the ground could provide power for the horses' hooves to climb, so that they did not have to climb the steep hillside with their bare hands.
After walking up a few dozen meters and turning two corners in a row, Hamish stopped without any warning.
"Damn it! I can't see it!"
He anxiously shook his head, trying to find the trace of the gray wolf. After searching for several times, Hamish finally gave up this search method. Turning his horse's head, he looked towards the top of the mountain and said, "Let's go to the top of the mountain and see if we can find its trace by looking down."
