Wade also showed Newt his pencil case, which gradually unfolded layer by layer until it became a tall wardrobe.
Seeing the wardrobe, which was taller than a person, Newt stared blankly for a while before muttering, "Yeah, wardrobes are so convenient..."
I didn't realize it when I was young, but I've come to realize it now that climbing up and down the stairs inside my suitcase every day is a huge test for my bones.
Newt and Wade entered the wardrobe space, and after looking around, Newt said approvingly, "What an excellent application... I didn't expect a twelve-year-old wizard to reach this level..."
"But that's all; it's just an ordinary storage space."
Wade frowned and said, "It doesn't seem to work like your suitcase, where multiple spaces are pieced together seamlessly without any conflict or oddity."
When talking about his area of expertise, Newt's confidence became visibly apparent. He smiled and said, "Spatial splicing...that's a very apt description."
"My suitcase does indeed contain many spaces pieced together from reality."
“Real space?” Wade asked, pondering as he said, “Is it something like folding space and then unfolding it in a suitcase…?”
"It's not that complicated."
Newt clenched his fist, thought for a moment, and then said:
"You know, to magical creatures, the most dangerous creatures on this planet are billions of humans."
"Humans are transforming more and more natural environments into cities of steel and concrete, leaving fewer and fewer suitable habitats for animals."
"To provide a suitable habitat for the little ones, I used the Divide Charm to carve out an area before the local environment was destroyed by Muggles, and then... uh, the Shrink Charm and the Expand Charm completed the transfer..."
He made it sound simple, but after thinking about it, Wade realized how incredibly difficult it was... practically as tall as a skyscraper.
To give a simple example—
Before the Christmas holidays, Wade saw that older students had acquired a tall spruce tree, which they planned to decorate as the tallest Christmas tree in the entire school.
The spruce tree that Hagrid could carry by himself required five or six students to use the Levitation Charm to move it to the right location.
And what about Newt?
His suitcase even contained a snow-capped mountain!
Newt continued, "Sometimes you don't have to go through all that trouble. You can use a spatial linking charm to connect a part of the box to the outside world, so that they can communicate with each other."
"Do you see that lake? It connects to Loch Ness in Scotland, and the Horse Monster can travel between the two sides."
"However, this carries the risk of being hacked, so you need to be extra careful when choosing a connection space."
"In that case, how can we ensure the stability of the space inside the suitcase?"
Vader asked, "I've heard that if the spell fails, the contents inside might burst the container. But you don't seem to have any worries about that."
"Well, this is just one of my personal little tricks."
Newt gave a slightly smug smile: "While I was traveling, I learned how to divide space from magical creatures..."
Chapter 118 Farewell to Scamander
At dinner, Wade met Newt's wife, Tina Scamander.
Even in her old age, she remains a stunning beauty with her white hair tucked behind her ears and wearing a well-fitting dark green dress. Even the way she spreads butter on bread is incredibly elegant.
With just a glance, Mrs. Scamander could see that both the esteemed Newt and the somewhat mischievous Rolf were sitting obediently at the table, waiting for dinner to be served.
The Scamander family's life was another kind of fun.
Almost every morning, everyone pitches in to take care of the various animals in the suitcases.
I don’t know if Scamander is also famous among the magical creatures, but some animals will take the initiative to seek his help when they are injured or in trouble.
Wade had only been there a few days when he saw two horse-shaped water monsters entangled in fishing nets, a sea snake that had accidentally swallowed a plastic bag, and an invisible beast that had been burned by something.
Newt is also proficient in various animal healing spells; he can even perform surgery and deliver babies!
Some small, magical creatures consider this place their ideal paradise and are unwilling to leave even after escaping their predicament.
They acted like spoiled children, and Newt couldn't resist them at all. He could only let the little guys stay until they wanted to leave on their own.
Therefore, despite Newt's consistent efforts to release magical creatures back into the wild over the years, his suitcase has never been empty; instead, it has become increasingly lively.
Wade felt like he had taken several years' worth of magical animal conservation classes here.
During his free time after lunch break, Newt would give Wade pointers on how to improve the space in his pencil case.
He also took Wade to the nearby Jurassic Coast, where he carved out a small section of beach and seawater to fit into the pencil case space;
Then they moved a small patch of woodland from the mountains and taught him how to piece together the two different spaces.
Then, weather spells are applied to different spaces, otherwise the environment will deteriorate rapidly. However, to prevent the environments on both sides from affecting each other, isolation spells are needed.
The isolation spell requires a physical boundary, even if it is just a fence, a curtain, or a stone, the spell will work, but a completely empty space will not.
In just over a week, Wade's wardrobe space underwent a dramatic transformation—
In an area slightly larger than a swimming pool, seawater washes over the sand, and hermit crabs slowly crawl through it;
A dozen or so trees formed a narrow grove, and mushrooms were sprouting at the base of the trees;
Then there was a 20-30 square meter patch of lush green grass, with yellow dandelions swaying gently.
Although everything seemed so tiny, the once empty space finally came alive, and Newt was full of praise for Wade's learning speed.
……
That morning, as Wade was bandaging a small wound on the arm of a bowerwomen, Rolf excitedly rushed into his suitcase, holding a letter in his hand.
"Wade, the school sent you a letter!"
"Thank you, Rolf."
Wade tied a knot in the bandage, wiped his hands clean, and then took the letter.
The letter listed the departure time and location, still September 1st from King's Cross Station, followed by the second-grade reading list.
Apart from one book, "Standard Spells (Level 2)," the rest of the long list consists of works by Gilderoy Lockhart.
Without a doubt, this year's Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is still that flamboyant peacock.
“They’re all Gilderoy Lockhart’s books!” Rolf pulled out an acceptance letter and said with a smile, “Me too!”
Wade asked in surprise, "You've already received your acceptance letter... You're eleven years old?"
Rolf was small, and he always thought the child was under ten years old, no older than that.
“Of course!” Rolf proudly declared. “I turned eleven last month! Wade, let’s go to Diagon Alley to buy books.”
“Okay,” Wade said. “Let’s go to Diagon Alley together on Wednesday.”
“Wednesday?” Rolf recalled the calendar. “Is there anything special about that day?”
“There’s a book launch for Gilderoy Lockhart,” Wade said with a chuckle. “I’m really looking forward to it.”
"Wow! I didn't realize you were a Lockhart fan!" Rolf exclaimed in surprise. "Do you really think his smile is charming?"
“…What smile?” Wade asked curiously.
"Of course, it's the Most Charming Smile Award from The Wizarding Weekly. Lockhart has won it five times."
Rolf pursed his lips: "Don't be angry when I tell you... I don't think his smile is charming at all, but rather... uh... very..."
"Too flashy?" Wade reminded him.
"Yeah, that's it!"
“I don’t care whether his smile is charming or not,” Wade explained. “I just think there will be more people in Diagon Alley than usual that day, and maybe something interesting will happen.”
"Oh, I see." Rolf nodded. "Then I'll go on Wednesday too... I want to see for myself why so many people like him."
……
Time flies, and Wednesday is here in the blink of an eye.
Wade packed his luggage early in the morning, and after breakfast, he thanked and said goodbye to the Scamanders.
After buying the books, he only had a few days of vacation left. He wanted to spend the rest of his time with his parents.
Rolf was somewhat displeased—this child, like many children from wizarding families, had few friends growing up. Upon suddenly meeting someone his own age, he cherished them greatly and couldn't bear to be apart from them for even a moment.
But he was still well-mannered. Apart from his barely concealed sadness, he did not insist that Wade stay and play with him. Instead, he gave Wade a set of comic books that he really liked.
Wade then gave him an automatic feeding device that he had developed in his spare time. It was enchanted and could even emit calls to summon magical creatures.
As they parted, Newt told him, "This world is vast, and our understanding of her is only the tip of the iceberg."
"Many wizards feel that protecting magical creatures is meaningless; they only see them as materials for potions and wands, or props for showing off."
"But I've always believed that wizards and magical creatures are one. If one day all the magical creatures disappear from the earth, perhaps wizards will also cease to exist?"
"Uh... these are just some of my own shallow thoughts. If you don't agree, that's okay..."
"But I always hope that more people will be willing to love and protect magical animals, instead of harming them recklessly..."
“I assure you, Mr. Scamander,” Wade said solemnly, “that I will never use what I have learned from you to harm magical creatures.”
Newt looked at him intently with his light-colored eyes, then slowly revealed a very happy smile.
