Of course, the same spells used here as at Hogwarts were employed. To Muggles, the mountain appeared to be nothing but bare rocks.
Steven pushed open the door with practiced ease, and was greeted by a winding garden path.
A group of fairies, accompanied by butterflies, flitted among the bowl-sized flowers, creating a truly dreamlike scene.
A rustling sound came from the grass, and a brownish-yellow cat-like creature peeked out. It stared warily at Wade, its large ears twitching slightly.
Then came the second cat-like creature, which was naturally alert and could detect who was morally corrupt.
"Hi, Hobby, Millie," Steven said cheerfully, crouching down. "Long time no see! Did you miss me?"
Hobby lowered her guard when she saw him, climbed onto Steven, and made a baby-like whining sound.
Another tabby cat approached Wade, cautiously rubbing its claws against his pants before climbing up his leg. Wade quickly picked it up.
“Millie likes you very much.” Steven seemed very happy. “They are Mr. Scamander’s pets, and there’s another one named Moller who doesn’t like to go out much.”
The two walked along the pebble path into the yard, where they saw Newt Scamander already at the bottom of the steps, with a cat with pointed ears lying lazily at his feet.
Newt Scamander is 95 years old.
He wasn't the young and shy character he portrayed in the movie. Time had given him gray hair and faint wrinkles, but it hadn't changed his certain innocent yet earnest nature.
His eyes remained clear, and he turned his body slightly to the side, as if unconsciously avoiding other people's gaze, appearing somewhat reserved.
Even though the two people in front of him were far inferior to Newt Scamander in terms of age, social status, and magical ability, he did not show the slightest condescension.
Like a child who is afraid of being hurt, yet easily harmed by evil.
“Good morning, Steven.” Newt looked at Wade with apprehension and said, “Welcome, Mr. Wade Gray.”
Wade bowed slightly: "Please call me Wade. I have always admired you. I apologize for the inconvenience caused by my unannounced visit."
“No,” Newt said softly. “I’m glad that there are good young wizards who are willing to learn about these things.”
A brown-haired boy popped out from behind Newt, giving Wade a bright smile: "Hey! I heard the Book of Friends is your invention?"
“Politeness, Rolf,” Newt said casually.
Clearly, he wasn't a dignified grandfather in his grandson's eyes. Rolf secretly made a face, then held out his hand.
"Hello, I am Rolf—Rolf Scamander."
The boy grinned and said, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Wade Gray, the inventor of the Book of Friends."
"Hello." Wade shook hands with him as well.
"Would you like to visit my grandfather's animal sanctuary? Come with me, I'll be your guide!"
Rolf enthusiastically pulled Wade forward, while Newt and Steven followed behind with smiles.
“I heard you went to America before?” Steven asked.
“Yes, I’m going to see an old friend,” Newt sighed. “I sent it to America about seventy years ago. I never imagined that I would have to send it away from this world now.”
Upon hearing this, Steven knew that the old friend he was referring to was a Thunderbird, and said in surprise, "I remember that Thunderbirds are supposed to have a very long lifespan?"
“It was so badly injured protecting its young that it didn’t get treatment.” Newt said sadly, “You know, they can summon lightning and storms, so they are often targeted by poachers.”
Steven said angrily, "Damn poachers! I've always dreamed of seeing a ptarmigan with my own eyes, and they dare to harm it!"
"Then your dream can come true today."
Newt forced a smile: "After Frank died, its cub lost its protection. I brought it back to protect it."
Rolf paid no attention to what his grandfather and Steven were saying; he excitedly told Wade:
"The Book of Friends is such a wonderful invention! Everyone in our family has one. My grandmother has the most; she has three!"
“I have one too! One with my grandfather, one with my grandmother, one each with my father and mother, and one with my uncle… It’s more fun to chat on paper than face to face!”
"There's just one problem! The information isn't saved for long enough! Sometimes I wake up from a nap and miss my mom's message, and she complains—'Oh, you have to go in from here!'"
He placed a brown leather suitcase on the ground, opened it, and then climbed inside first. When only his upper body was outside, he turned back and waved to Wade.
Then the person disappeared as if they had been swallowed by the box.
Wade had seen this scene in a movie in his previous life. He smiled when he saw it and then followed him inside.
The suitcase entrance was rather narrow, but the interior space was magically expanded to resemble a portable miniature world.
Going down the stairs, there was a small room that looked like a storage room, filled with many things, many of which looked quite old. Wade didn't have time to look at them closely.
"Come on!"
Rolf called out from the front and opened the wooden door in the room that didn't look very sturdy.
"Gah-"
The wooden door groaned hoarsely from its joints, and a cool, damp smell and the stench of animals wafted over.
A vast world suddenly appeared before my eyes in a stunning manner.
Wade held his breath, his heart pounding like a drum.
Experiencing all of this firsthand, being in this magically created space, is a completely different feeling from seeing it on a movie screen.
In an instant, he felt as if his breath had been stolen away.
Magic...what a wondrous power...
Rolf had played here since he was a child and was used to it, so he couldn't comprehend the shock Wade felt. Seeing him standing there in a daze, he pulled him by the arm and walked to the side.
"Come this way, I'll show you the new residents here!"
The two hadn't gone far when a golden desert appeared before them, with several giant stone pillars in the center.
In the recess of the stone pillar lay a fledgling bird with three pairs of wings and a slender tail. It was asleep with its eyes closed, its feathers swaying gently in the breeze.
Rolf made a shushing gesture, then tiptoed over with Wade and gestured for him to extend his finger as he had done.
Chapter 117 Suitcase and Pencil Case
When the chick was about four or five centimeters away, Wade suddenly felt a slight tingling sensation in his fingers, and at the same time he saw that Rolf's hair had all stood up like a pufferfish.
Wade realized that he must be in the same situation.
Rolf let out a silent laugh, then tugged at Wade's arm, and the two of them left the vicinity of the stone pillar like thieves.
Turning left and right, they came to a warm and humid bamboo forest. Only then did Rolf burst into laughter.
"Isn't it amazing? Thunderbird chicks are born with electricity."
Rolf laughed heartily as he dipped his palm in the water from the bamboo leaves and tidied his messy hair.
Vader drew his wand: "Clear water like a spring."
A stream of water gushed down the bamboo branch, and Rolf immediately gave a thumbs-up!
The two men rinsed their hair with water. Suddenly, Wade saw a dung beetle, bigger than a swallowtail dog, slowly pushing an equally enormous ball of dung past them.
Newt's suitcase space is even more amazing than Glaling Farm; walking a short distance here feels like entering a new world.
Turn a corner, and the bamboo forest transforms into a tropical savanna; wander around aimlessly for a while, and before you know it, you've arrived at a rainforest.
The snow-covered landscape and the birdsong and fragrant flowers are separated only by a curtain; on either side of the giant rock, sandy land and water are separated.
The cave in the distance was very small, but once you went inside, the space expanded rapidly and soon became a huge stone cave.
An ordinary oak door, when opened, reveals distant mountains and an endless lake.
Furthermore, Newt also kept many dangerous creatures of 4X or even 5X rating. In front of that man, these terrifying creatures were like obedient children, bowing their heads and enjoying his caresses.
Even Rolf can play with or feed these creatures at will, without worrying that they will hurt him.
“I love them so much,” Rolf said, puffing out his cheeks. “But Grandpa always says we can’t leave them in this cramped space.”
"So although he always rescues those magical creatures in distress, he releases them back into their original habitat once they are able to survive independently."
"If only animals could use a Book of Friends... that way we wouldn't lose touch even if we were apart."
As he spoke, he held a young Reem cow in his arms. The two creatures looked at Wade with the same pitiful, hopeful eyes.
Wade couldn't help but laugh: "Even if I could get animals to use the Book of Friends, they can't read!"
Rolf's expression immediately fell, and he sighed with deep sorrow: "Alas, I knew it wouldn't work... Isn't there a way to communicate without writing?"
“Yes,” Wade said, sitting down next to him. “Couldn’t a two-way mirror work?”
“But two-way mirrors are rare and too expensive,” Rolf said dejectedly. “I have many friends, but I don’t have enough pocket money.”
Wade couldn't help but laugh again.
The little boy had a round head and was very cute. When he made this kind of melancholy expression, as if he were an adult, he looked even more adorable.
As he laughed, a subtle emotion stirred within him.
Two-way mirrors... seem like a promising research direction...
……
After touring the area, Wade also took the opportunity to ask Newt about the application of the Unseen Stretch Charm.
Newt dedicated his life to protecting magical creatures, and his magical trunk played a crucial role in this endeavor. In his mastery of the Unseen Stretching Charm, Vader suspected that even Dumbledore couldn't match Newt's skill.
He is undoubtedly a world-class master in this field.
