Chapter 70 Giant Sentinels and Sentinel Factories
Whoosh!
The distance of thousands of miles was covered in the blink of an eye. The salty sea breeze made his cloak flutter. Russell stood in the air with his arms crossed, with the island nation of Kenosha right beneath his feet.
We're in the other hemisphere, and it's daytime here.
"What a beautiful island nation, yet it is controlled by warlords as vicious as vipers." Magneto stood with his hands behind his back, his eyes beneath his metal helmet as cold as blades.
Wanda nodded in agreement wholeheartedly.
The vast island beneath their feet was covered by a dense, primeval rainforest. The verdant canopies undulated in the breeze, forming a surging green ocean, serene and natural.
However, at the end of this pristine landscape, a grotesque scar is abruptly torn open on the horizon—between two mountain ranges, a patch of stark yellow earth is exposed to the sunlight.
The power station's concrete dam stretches across the valley like a high wall.
Thousands of mutants toiled on the construction site like zombies, their dusty figures appearing tiny against the shadow of the giant machinery.
Armed soldiers patrolled the area like hunting dogs, the cold glint of their guns reflecting off the dust under the blazing sun creating a brutal scene.
A gaunt boy floated in mid-air, his trembling hands manipulating his telekinetic powers, moving tens of tons of steel.
Another mutant knelt beside a cement mixer, water gushing from his fingertips mixing with sand and gravel to form murky mud; further away, several figures were spewing flames at the newly poured dam, accelerating its drying process.
"My fellow mutants—" Magneto's voice echoed across the entire island through the distorted magnetic field, "You will be free today."
The rumbling sound was like thunder, shaking everyone.
The construction site suddenly fell silent.
"Has anyone come to rescue us...has anyone come to rescue us?"
"Fellow countrymen, please save us! I can't hold on any longer."
Thousands of mutants with restraint collars around their necks looked up in disbelief. They were covered in dust, their withered hands still gripping shovels, and their lips were chapped.
"Enemy attack, enemy attack!"
The alarm sounded instantly at the construction site and spread throughout the country, its piercing siren echoing over the island.
Once the soldiers could see the figures in the sky, they all raised their guns and opened fire.
But Magneto blocked them all with a raised hand.
A beam of highly concentrated electromagnetic energy exploded in his cold-faced palm, blasting several sentry posts into fragments, and the soldiers on them were also blown to pieces.
"The times are rolling forward, but you are the only ones turning back the clock of modern civilization and enslaving your fellow human beings."
"In that case, I presume you can accept the slaughter of defeated armies, just as in ancient times."
Russell flew in slowly, and wherever his heat vision swept across, armored vehicles melted like wax figures, and helicopters exploded into a ball of sparks before they could even take off.
He was like a heartless killing machine, his crimson laser sweeping across the battlefield, turning the dictator's army to ashes amidst screams!
"Fire! Fire! Kill these two monsters!" The foreman at the construction site, pale with fright, gripped the walkie-talkie and gave the order.
boom!
A uranium-core armor-piercing round suddenly shot in, but it exploded into dust in Russell's chest like a cardboard toy hitting an impenetrable wall. He remained expressionless and slowly turned his head.
A deep red laser swept across, splitting the heavy tank that had launched the attack in two. With a slight shift of the gaze, the other tanks followed suit.
"How many times have you cursed and beaten my people these days? Now it's time for you to pay for your blood debt!"
Magneto clenched his fist, and all the steel guns held by the soldiers seemed to come alive, breaking free from their grasp. Under their terrified gazes, the dark muzzles of the guns were turned around.
Bang bang bang!
Gunfire erupted in unison, bullets raining down on the firing positions, creating clouds of blood and fire.
Scarlet Witch, enveloped in red energy, unleashed bursts of energy like a cannon, while another moved with lightning speed, weaving through the soldiers.
The dictator's army, which was capable of controlling the entire country, was quickly decimated.
hum!
Something's coming!
He then used a laser to decapitate another foreman from a distance. Russell looked into the depths of the interior and, with his super hearing, heard a sound like a large airplane breaking through the air.
"Are they two—robots?"
Magneto used his magnetic field to sense the flying object.
"Mutant detected, eliminate!" Two black dots were visible on the horizon. Two giant robots, each over ten meters tall, with purple bodies, steel helmets, and cold, ruthless eyes, appeared on the horizon and were flying in at high speed.
Before they even arrived, laser beams shot out from their eyes, piercing through miles, and suddenly came hurtling towards them!
"Sentinel robot".
Russell squinted and recognized the robots at a glance.
The explanation for those mutant ability-suppressing collars became clear.
"Is Bolivar Trask in this universe actually cooperating with the Kingdom of Genoa?"
Bolivar Trask, the inventor of the Sentinel robot, was a brilliant scientist.
In the Marvel multiverse, there are countless universes, and some things may remain largely unchanged, such as the existence of the X-Men, the Brotherhood of Mutants, the invention of the Sentinel robots, and the Sentinels being the natural enemies of mutants...
However, some minor details will vary from person to person.
Russell only had a general understanding of some things; he didn't know everything.
hum!
A thick laser beam pierced through the sky for miles, its terrifying power tearing through the heavens. Its deep red, dangerous light even momentarily overshadowed the sunlight, turning everything blood red.
The mutants below were horrified, but in front of Russell and his companion, such an attack was not even worth their attention.
"They are not made of metal—"
Magneto casually manipulated two broken sentry posts, piecing them together to form a shield to block the laser attack, and frowned.
"Presumably, the inventors of these two robots anticipated that one day they would come after you, so they certainly wouldn't be stupid enough to use steel as a material."
Otherwise, no matter how advanced it is, it'll just be your toy.
Magneto's iron shield turned into molten iron droplets and evaporated in the laser beam. Russell's eyes also shot out deep red lasers that swept across the area, appearing as different as water compared to the thick lasers of the two giant sentinels.
Swish!
But then a flash of red light appeared, and the sky and earth were separated, as if space itself had been cleaved open.
Two Sentinels were severely damaged from a distance, their bodies torn and mangled. One of them was emitting black smoke and unable to fly, eventually crashing.
"The Sentinel robot... I remember that the material it was built with seemed to be a high-density molecular composite plastic that was dozens of times harder than steel."
Russell squinted.
It wasn't surprising to see that the two giant sentinels weren't completely destroyed by his laser eye, even though he hadn't used his full strength.
"Similar giant-type Sentinels will eventually land on Genoa Island, which is controlled by Magneto. Nearly half of the world's mutants gathered there. More than 16 million mutants with various abilities joined forces to resist, but they were all slaughtered."
Even Magneto and other powerful mutants were powerless to stop it.
"Hmph! Does everyone think I'm Magneto?" Magneto sneered, then struck, a vein bulging on his forehead, as he crushed the surviving giant sentinel from a distance.
It doesn't look like a very easy or carefree experience.
Magneto can control more than just metal, but without a doubt, controlling metal is the easiest thing for him to do.
Have you thought about this problem?
Russell activated his X-ray vision and looked into the depths of the island. What he saw made him raise an eyebrow.
"what?"
Magneto turned around.
"A dictatorial warlord, enslaving mutants instead of mining, is building dams and power plants. Is he trying to improve people's livelihoods?"
That's obviously impossible.
"What do you see?"
"I saw nearly a hundred of these robots ready to go, a huge robot factory, continuously producing the same giant robots!"
"You mean there's already a factory production line that can mass-produce these robots?" Magneto's expression changed drastically.
