Chapter 69 Kenosha Enslaves Mutants
Chapter 69 Kenosha Enslaves Mutants
Enter Magneto's tent.
Under the lamplight, a world map lay on the table, with a deep red circle encircling a place.
Magneto's face was grim, his eyes blazing with fury, and he paced back and forth with his hands behind his back.
Beside her stood a woman with blue skin, hands on her hips, exuding a seductive aura. Her red hair made her look like a cunning and alluring devil from hell.
"Mystique, I told you this before."
Magneto introduced the two to each other.
"This is the infinite number of people..."
Russell greeted Mystique, ignoring her curious stares, and turned to Magneto.
"Why did you call me over so late?"
Looking at the handsome young man in front of her, Mystique's eyes sparkled with curiosity. Although she had just returned, someone had mentioned to her when she passed through the camp that a young man had come to the camp.
Magneto valued him highly, even treating him as an equal, as a way to show respect and win him over.
Looking at it now, it turns out to be true.
Magneto, though furious, managed to restrain himself and summon the man to discuss their next move.
"An island nation called Kenosha has been promoting itself as a place to accept mutants, claiming that our people can find a home there."
What was that saying again—'Kenosha warmly welcomes all mutants who wish to immigrate. Welcome!'
Magneto slammed his fist on the table, pointing at the Pacific island nation circled in red on the map, and sneered.
"I was skeptical and couldn't believe that there would be any country in the human world willing to develop together with mutants, so I sent Mystique to investigate."
“On that island, there was no tolerance or love for mutants, only deception and enslavement.” Mystique spread a stack of photos on the table.
"Kinosha?"
Russell's eyes flickered.
The photo appears to be from a dam construction site, where many mutants wearing collars around their necks, looking pale and sickly, are working hard, moving stones and mixing concrete.
The Kenosha people, armed with guns, acted like domineering warlords, bossing everyone around and urging them to work day and night.
"He actually tricked our people onto the island and then enslaved them like cattle, making them build dams and power plants!" Magneto was furious.
Wanda looked distressed and equally angry. Among the enslaved were the elderly, children, and women, all of whom looked exhausted and desperate, as if they had been enslaved for a long time.
"what do you mean……"
When Russell heard the name, he was not surprised by what was in the photograph.
Kenosha is a significant location in the X-Men universe, where for a long time, the people of Kenosha secretly enslaved mutants.
Until the dictator's rule was overthrown by the X-Men, the mutants were saved, the entire country fell into civil war, and Magneto subsequently took over the country.
Magneto will build a home for mutants in this place that once enslaved them.
Unfortunately, the good times didn't last long. Not long after, radicals among humans led the Sentinel Corps to launch a surprise attack on Kenosha Island, resulting in the near-total death of the more than ten million mutants who had gathered in Kenosha from all over the world.
The brutal Kenosha massacre remains a painful memory forever etched in the minds of mutant communities.
"This country must be eliminated. Only the harshest punishment can show the world that mutants will never be enslaved."
Magneto's cold eyes can freeze a person's soul.
"And... I want to know who invented such a vicious thing..."
He waved his hand, and a photograph floated up.
It was a candid close-up shot of the metal collar around the mutant's neck, flashing red light. To Magneto, it was even more conspicuous than a dog leash!
“These collars can suppress our abilities,” Mystique explained with lingering fear, revealing the information she had gathered. “Ginosha uses these technological collars to enslave mutants.”
"What?" Wanda exclaimed in surprise, "Everyone's abilities can be suppressed?"
"Yes."
Mystique nodded.
“I saw many powerful mutants there, whose reputations were known throughout the mutant community, but they were also slave laborers.”
"North Star, Aurora siblings, Solar Fire, Domino..."
"That's it!"
Magneto waved his hand to stop Mystique from speaking further, as he had been completely oblivious to the suffering of so many of his own kind on Kenosha Island for so long.
The powers of mutants come entirely from their innate abilities. If those abilities were all suppressed, they would be no different from ordinary people, and their numbers would be extremely small, resulting in a low social status.
How can mutants survive under the malice of humans?
Russell could guess what Magneto was thinking.
It's impossible that such a small island nation could develop this kind of technology so quietly; there must be something fishy going on behind the scenes.
"When are you planning to make your move? Now?"
Russell asked Magneto.
Seeing Russell prepare to fight without hesitation when he saw his people being oppressed and enslaved, Magneto was extremely pleased. "Immediately, I intend to do it as soon as possible."
"After the warlords of this island nation are defeated, we can take control of the country and establish the first place for mutants to live on it."
A group of mutants filled with despair and anger, long enslaved and waiting to be rescued—Russell knew without a doubt that this would be a huge conquest opportunity.
“Building the infrastructure needed for a country to function from scratch would take too long. Having an existing country as the foundation for our nation-building is much better.”
Magneto's eyes lit up, and he agreed to the suggestion.
"Moreover... we don't need to worry about international perception at all."
The act of conquering a country without cause is entirely different from conquering a country with a just cause. The former will cause all of humanity to feel a more intense rejection and fear of mutants.
This gave them an opportunity.
In the 20th century, there were still people who persecuted and enslaved another group of people like livestock, which aroused people's indignation and sympathy wherever it was told.
Even if Russell and Magneto destroyed the dictator of this country and used this land to establish a mutant nation, those who truly have a sense of justice wouldn't say much.
"Alright, this is a rare opportunity. Let's go now."
Thinking of his people being enslaved, Magneto couldn't wait a second longer, so he decided that only Russell, himself, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Mystique, who was familiar with the island, would set off first.
The others will arrive shortly thereafter.
Russell didn't ask Magneto why he didn't just give the others a ride.
The Brotherhood of Mutants has a core of only a few members, but most of them are mutants who have nowhere else to turn and are seeking refuge; some have women and some have children.
Magneto is always the first to charge into battle, leading from the front alone, and is the first to go into danger, rarely bringing his subordinates with him.
When they went to seize a nuclear bomb, they didn't even bring their children with them.
Every member of his tribe was precious to him, and Magneto didn't want to lose a single one.
"Putting some things aside, Magneto is definitely a leader that mutants can trust and rely on."
