Chapter 76 The Abandoned Mutant Academy

Chapter 76 The Abandoned Mutant Academy
Xavier's Academy of Geniuses isn't strictly speaking located in New York City, but rather in the suburbs of Westchester County, northeast of New York City. It has been abandoned for nearly six years, and now only two people live in the vast European-style manor: "Laser Eyes" Scott Summers, the legal owner of this abandoned mansion, and "The Beast" Hank McCoy.

As usual, Scott sat on his bed, holding the original X-Men five photo with Professor Xavier. After the professor's death and Jean's disappearance, he tried to keep the team together, but in the end everyone went their separate ways, leaving only himself and Hank here.

"I miss you so much, Qin..."

As he routinely expressed his longing for his long-lost lover, he heard the doorbell ringing again from the stereo. Scott sighed helplessly. That woman was truly persistent; didn't she understand that he couldn't possibly allow her to acquire the professor's final estate?
“I’ve told you a lot, Ms. Foster…”

"It's obvious that whoever you're talking about, it's not me."

Nick Fury's voice came through the communicator. Cyclops looked up, then stood up. He adjusted his ruby sunglasses and walked to the school's closed gate. Through the gate, he saw Nick Fury and a young girl with him.

"Another mutant-related incident?"

“It has nothing to do with mutants. A young Avenger from Tony Stark has scheduled a medical check-up with you guys, and I’m just curious to come and take a look.” Nick Fury watched as Cyclops opened the door and led Cindy into the academy, which had been neglected for years. “You look alright, at least you still have time to shave.”

“Anyway, I don’t have anything else to do. This world doesn’t need the X-Men anymore. More and more mutants are choosing to go to Kenosha instead of staying.” Cyclops sighed and led the two men to the half of the living room in the academy that was still functioning. He got them two cans of coffee; he didn’t have anything else.

Nick Fury raised an eyebrow and put his coffee aside. Just as Cyclops was about to say something, the doorbell rang again. He scratched his head and said, "Looks like the friend you're waiting for has arrived. Wait a moment, I'll go get him."

Peter did arrive, dressed in his Spider-Man costume, and followed Happy to Xavier's School for the Gifted. Gwen followed as well. Peter tried to persuade her to go home, but as always, he couldn't get her to go back on her own.

"Isn't today Cindy's first day at this school?" Gwen asked in the car. "Didn't she transfer because of you? Won't she be disappointed that you're not here?"

"This is beyond my control, there's nothing I can do about it."

Happy honked the horn, and the two of them got out of the car. Somewhat unexpectedly, a black luxury sedan was already parked at the entrance, and at the same time, another gorgeous white supercar drove up and parked next to their car.

Oh no, Gwen didn't disguise herself. Hopefully, it's not some particularly troublesome character coming down.

The sudden change caught Peter completely off guard, and his hopes were dashed, because what came down was indeed a very troublesome woman. This woman looked to be under thirty, wearing a tight-fitting white dress that made no attempt to conceal her curvaceous figure, matching white boots, and a white fur shawl. Everything about her seemed to be white, even her lipstick was an icy blue, making her look unusually alluring.

When the other person got out of the car, they tossed their long golden hair, then took off their sunglasses, revealing a pair of captivating blue eyes.

"Spider-Man, this is unexpected. You actually showed up here. Does that mean you're a mutant?"

More importantly, the other person was taller than Peter. This woman was about 1.8 meters tall, and she was leaning against the hood of the sports car, looking at Peter. Peter suddenly felt his spider senses go off, and then he felt a sudden jolt, but nothing happened.

Instead, surprise flashed in the other person's eyes, but then turned to curiosity. He looked at Gwen beside him, and then at Happy, who was smiling ingratiatingly at him.

Peter, of course, knew who this woman was. “Ms. Emma Foster, I should say it many times, Xavier’s Academy of Geniuses does not welcome you.” Cyclops Scott Summers opened the door, looking at the woman with an unfriendly expression: “No matter what, I will not agree to Hellfire Corporation and the Massachusetts Mutant Academy acquiring this place, whether it is the estate or the academy.”

"Why not, Scott? Since you don't intend to inherit Charles Xavier's business, why not hand it over to someone more suitable?"

“Hellfire Club? Go tell Sebastian Shaw again.” Cyclops chuckled, hands in his pockets, staring intently at Emma Foster through his sunglasses. “He doesn’t deserve it!”

"Come in, children, Nick Fury has been waiting for you. By the way, goodbye forever, Miss Emma."

Turning around, Cyclops waved to Emma, rejecting her proposal once again. Peter shrugged and followed with Gwen. They entered the half of the living room, where he saw Nick Fury and Spider-Man beside him.

When Nick Fury saw Gwen following him, his gaze towards Peter could only be described as fierce, but in the end he didn't say anything.

“Hey, you must be Cindy, right?” Gwen walked straight up to Cindy and extended her hand. “I’m Gwen, Gwen Stacy, Peter’s best friend since childhood.”

“Cindy Moon.” Cindy shook hands politely, and after noticing Gwen sitting next to her, she pulled up her face mask. Gwen asked her curiously, “Weren’t you supposed to transfer schools today? Why didn’t you go to school?”

"The mission is related to Spider-Man."

On the other side, after the blue-furred beast drew blood from Peter, it conducted tests in the Xavier Academy laboratory, which was almost a ruin. Afterward, it gave Peter both good news and bad news.

“First of all, you’re not a mutant,” the Beast said half-jokingly, then explained seriously, “Secondly, your genes are very stable. Both of your special genes are stable and they are intermingling and slowly fusing together. Your current loss of control over your power is just a coincidence. In just a few months, once your genes have fully fused, you will be able to regain control of your power.”

"How many months?"

“It’s not that there’s no way.” Out of a doctor’s duty, Beast introduced Peter to another plan: “We need to use Nathaniel Essex’s gene-editing device, which he used to create artificial mutants. But the problem is…”

“The problem is there are only two of these left. One is in Kenosha, and under current federal law, any trip to Kenosha is illegal.” Nick Fury knew exactly where it was. He watched as Cyclops picked up his unused coffee, opened it, and drank it, then revealed the location of the other gene-editing device: “There’s another one, in a troublesome place, a place that even S.H.I.E.L.D. can’t completely guarantee in terms of security and transparency, Madrid Slope.”

"It's no trouble at all."

Lasereye tossed the can into a trash can some distance away and turned to look at Fury.

"Logan is right there."
