Chapter 75: Second Mutation?
Chapter 75 Second Mutation?
Peter Parker woke up on Monday morning, looked up at the ceiling of his bed, and yawned deeply.
Why is the bed on the ceiling?
Realizing this, Peter suddenly fell off the ceiling and looked at the blanket stuck to his hand, feeling confused.
What happened? Wasn't this supposed to happen the day after I was bitten? Did I travel back six months? He glanced at the clock on the bedside table, confirming it was September, then took a deep breath, trying to relax as much as possible. That way, the blanket would fall from his hands.
As a result... he did fall, but it was slightly different. Peter discovered that his hands, no, his entire body, had become transparent, and light was passing through his hands.
He immediately thought of the 42nd Cosmic Spider that had bitten him, and Peter was so frightened that he rushed to the bathroom. His invisibility was deactivated, and the person in the mirror was a completely normal Peter Parker.
The good news is, he didn't turn into a humanoid spider or grow six arms, but he's currently unable to control his strength very well. He tried to open the wardrobe to change his clothes, and despite being careful enough, he still managed to tear the wardrobe door off.
Peter sighed helplessly and looked at the spider disc on the table, which was probably the only piece of clothing that wouldn't be torn apart by forces he couldn't control.
The only thing that puzzled him was why he hadn't activated this ability a day after being bitten on Earth 700, but instead activated it after returning to his own universe.
Gwen Stacy was heading out to school, and by then, Peter would most likely be off doing his job in his uniform. But not today. She heard Peter calling her, turned around, and saw Peter Parker peeking out of the window: "Hey, Gwen? Can you do me a favor?"
"Okay...? What's wrong?"
"It's a bit complicated. I'll toss you the key, and you can open my door first."
After Peter finished speaking, he gently tossed his key out the window. Gwen saw it arc perfectly through the air for over 200 meters before crashing into the bushes in the distance. She turned to look at Peter.
Are you serious?
What could Peter Parker do? He could only sigh and wait for Gwen to pick up the keys and open the Parker's door. Once upstairs, Gwen saw Peter Parker, dressed in full uniform, waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs and couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"
"Well... to put it simply, I had a little mishap during my mission yesterday, and I lost control of my abilities." Peter said as he led Gwen into his room, showing her his wardrobe with the door ripped off, and the bedroom doorknob that had been accidentally twisted into a jumbled mess when he tried to open it.
Gwen gave an "Oh" of admiration, then looked at Peter: "What do you want me to do?"
"First, unlock my phone; you know the password. Then open your contacts and find Tony Stark. His contact name should be 'Toy Store Owner.'"
Gwen expertly unlocked Peter's phone, scrolling through it while looking at him strangely: "Toy store owner?"
“If Aunt May sees this someday, I can’t exactly say why I have Tony Stark’s number in my contacts, can I? Connect him for me.” Peter watched Gwen dial the number and then had her hold the phone to his ear. Once the call connected, Tony asked curiously, “Making a call on your first day with the Avengers? You can come to Avengers Tower if you need anything, kid.”
“This is probably a bit troublesome, Mr. Stark. Yesterday… I was bitten by a radioactive spider in another universe, once again.”
Tony Stark on the phone and Gwen outside the phone both exclaimed in unison, "What?"
"It's complicated. In short, I can't control my powers very well right now, and I've also gained some new abilities. Can you send someone to pick me up and take me to Avengers Tower? Happy will be there soon. Okay, thank you."
"You were bitten by the same spider twice?"
“It’s not the same spider. One is from Osborn Technologies in our universe, and the other is from an alchemy company in another universe.” Peter sighed, then looked at his wardrobe. “I need your help, Gwen. I can’t just walk out of the house in this uniform. You need to find me a jacket and pants and help me put them on.” Gwen took Peter’s phone, pursed her lips, and nodded.
"You owe me one, you smart kid."
"I know……"
"You have to take me for a ride around Manhattan."
Peter Parker sighed heavily again.
A few minutes later, Peter Parker, wrapped in a thick coat in September, walked out of the house looking around and got into the car that Happy had already opened. Before he could even sit down, he saw Gwen get in as well.
Happy, wearing sunglasses, glanced at Gwen, then at Peter.
“She knows what I’m doing, so… it’s okay.” Peter said helplessly, then looked at Gwen, who was sitting obediently with a smile on her face: “Could you help me ask for leave? Just say I’m sick, and use your phone, thank you.”
"no problem."
In the car, Gwen asked Peter and herself for leave, saying that Peter's family was out and she would help take care of him. Then, watching the car enter the underground parking garage of Avengers Tower, Happy silently opened the door for Peter, who couldn't control his strength, and led them to the elevator leading to the top floor of the building. He opened the elevator, looked at Peter with an unfriendly expression as he led the girl into the elevator, put two fingers in front of his eyes, pointed, and then pointed at Peter.
Peter sighed.
"Looks pretty good, didn't break our floor." Tony, with his back to Peter, poured him a glass of milk, puzzled. "How did you get bitten by a spider? And what happened to your Peter? What's wrong with him?"
He turned to hand the milk to Peter when he saw Gwen coming up with him. He exclaimed "Oh!" in surprise, raised an eyebrow, skipped over Peter, and handed the milk to Gwen. Gwen took the milk and politely introduced herself: "Hello, Mr. Stark, I'm Gwen, Peter's neighbor and friend."
"This girl is pretty good, so, what's going on, kid?"
"I don't know. My spider senses didn't go off before I was bitten, and I didn't feel any changes in myself on the other Earth. I just came back, slept, and this happened."
Peter spoke innocently, while Tony frowned. Could it be solved? It probably wasn't too difficult, but the question was how long it would take. Both the Avengers and the Fantastic Four had many scientists, but none of them were experts in the field of biological genetics. And right now, the best experts in gene programming and mutation were almost all at Osborn Technology.
But putting Peter in Osborn Technologies? Tony wouldn't agree to that; Osborn isn't exactly a saint.
However, learning it on the spot would definitely take a lot of time...
Tony Stark thought of someone.
"Do you know King T'Challa's queen, child?"
"That former X-Men Storm? What happened to her?"
“X-Men’s Beast, geneticist Hank McCoy, is still at Xavier’s Academy for Gifted Youngsters.” Tony laughed. “I can have Ororo help you schedule a checkup.”
