Chapter 356 Mission: 06-4 Mixed Blood
Dante did not answer Nero's question, and their eyes shifted slightly.
Nero hadn't intended to start a fight with Dante. She could vaguely sense that Dante wasn't inherently bad, and she was willing to believe he wouldn't fall into demonic depravity. But she also said that this alone wasn't enough.
This world's Dante had lived a life of hardship, with no experience, no culture, no ambition, and no foresight. Therefore, he couldn't see many things clearly. This was the biggest difference between him and Nero's "Uncle Dante," a difference far greater than the difference in their experiences and personalities. Many of the questions "Uncle Dante" had already pondered, with clear answers, were new to Dante.
He is too young, and being young means making mistakes easily. Making mistakes may not be a bad thing for young people, but it is definitely a bad thing for those around them.
The Son of Sparta is so powerful that if he makes a mistake, the consequences may be irreversible, just like Virgil in another world.
Even if he hadn't made any mistakes, relying solely on hatred as motivation, Nero would have found it difficult to stand before Mendes. Hatred can also bring strength, but throughout the history of the Spartan family, the power that can change everything is always love.
So, Dante now is not enough.
"Don't worry yet."
Nero patted Dante's drooping head again and said softly, "We must take one step at a time and think about problems one by one. Let's continue exploring here."
Dante slapped her hand away.
"You don't need to tell me."
He muttered softly, pouted and pushed open the broken wooden door.
Before them lay a shattered corridor filled with pitch-black magic stone. This magic stone was the blood of demons, a remnant of a long-ago battle. Nero followed Dante into the corridor, curiously surveying this magnificent "Spartan ancestral home."
"There are two roads." Dante, who was walking in front, turned his head and stopped.
Ahead of them was the end of the corridor, a hall that had once been magnificent, now only a ruin. The tiles in the hall were arranged in a circle, with a golden sun in the center.
At the end of the hall, beneath the broken stained glass windows, two long steps led to the second-floor corridors on both sides. Below the corridors, there were two doors leading to the east and west side halls.
Red light streamed down from the shattered vaults, shattered by the fire. Within the light, tilted broken walls, shattered candlesticks, rubble and glass framed the dusty, ornate carpet. Below the corridors and staircases lay a dark, luminous darkness, with only a faint glimmer of light filtering through the two large doors.
"Are we going to act together, or one on each side?" Nero asked.
"I'm going to the left."
Dante showed no sign of wanting to cooperate, and it wasn't clear if he was sulking. However, Nero didn't object to his arrangement and calmly replied, "Men on the left, women on the right? Not bad, either."
Dante didn't answer, but went in alone without saying a word, heading straight for the room on the second floor above the stairs.
It was also a reasonable judgment. Compared to those places used for receiving guests, private rooms would definitely contain more details and clues. Nero looked at his back, waved his hand and shouted, "Remember to tell me if you find it," but Dante ignored him.
"Okay, I'm really angry this time."
I just don't know if he was angry with Nero. Nero reluctantly withdrew his hand and walked towards the stairs on the other side with light steps - a stark contrast to Dante who deliberately made his steps sound loud.
It's clear that while Dante likes to talk about sleeping with many women, he's actually quite childish in some ways. The corridors on the second floor have collapsed in places, making Nero's progress somewhat difficult. Meanwhile, demons occasionally emerge from Limbo, but thankfully, none of them pose any threat to Nero.
There weren't many big beasts in this place, and any demons that appeared could be stabbed or sliced apart with a single strike or two. The biggest threat lay in the fact that the Limbo Prison itself could undergo strange transformations at any moment, just like the building fire just now. After all, instability was one of the defining characteristics of this space.
Nero walked through the corridor, dealing with all kinds of collapses, twists, explosions and sneak attacks. While thinking that this eerie and extremely troublesome place didn't look like Devil May Cry, but rather like a game made by a guy whose name started with the word "Gong" and ended with the word "Gao", he finally arrived safely at a room on the second floor.
As Nero had said, the Spartan ancestral home had been ransacked by vagrants over the past decade, and almost everything that could be taken away had been taken away. But in this room, a painting, framed in a golden frame, still remained.
This was naturally quite unusual and was immediately noticed by Nero.
"E.V.A., Eve?"
Nero carefully identified the name on the frame, then looked up and met the eyes of the woman in the painting, red-haired and black-dressed, holding a green rose and wearing the same red magic stone pendant on Dante's chest. This name was exactly the name of Dante's mother, Sparta's wife.
"The Eve in this world has red hair..."
After a soft sigh, Nero's gaze fell on the left side of the painting. To the right of Eve's figure, facing the right, there was a white patch in what should have been the background, but Nero thought it looked like a wing, with feather-like patterns on it.
Nero couldn't help but frown when he thought that there seemed to be angels in this world.
"No way... Is Eve in this world still an angel?"
That would be a bad thing, because it meant that her question to Dante, "Are you human?", would have backfired within minutes. If his father was a demon and his mother an angel, then Dante really had no human element at all. It was perfectly normal for him not to consider himself human.
Nero's expectation that he would think about things from a human perspective was completely untenable.
"The child of an angel and a devil."
Nero reached out and gently touched the portrait, which still had brilliant colors.
"Isn't it a bit too forbidden? Although having a child with a demon and a human doesn't seem much better, at least it sounds..."
Nero's voice broke in his throat.
The surface of the painting began to ripple, and Nero's hand, which had been touching the canvas, had unknowingly sunk into it.
“——Huh?”
and many more?
Nero was startled. She had no blood relationship with the Eve in the painting, and she had thought she wouldn't trigger any possible "trap."
But there was an amazing suction force coming from the painting, and Nero couldn't struggle at all and disappeared in an instant.
