Chapter 357 Mission: 07-1 Like a Dream, Not a Dream
"?"
As if sensing something was happening, Dante turned around and looked to the other side.
Mysterious fluctuations emanated from the space of the Limbo Hell. The surface world gradually began to crumble as humans continued to inhabit it for longer and longer periods of time. Beneath the shattered marble floor, it was no longer the main hall on the ground floor, but a chaotic, lightless wasteland.
"..."
He couldn't help but feel a little regretful.
Ultimately, this was why he hated Limbo. Human activity in this world always seemed to cause it to crumble, the earth gradually crumbling, and eventually even finding a place to stay would be difficult. If he hadn't said he wanted to go it alone, Nero, who could carry him in and out of Limbo, could have taken him out temporarily, waiting for Limbo to recover before continuing his exploration.
but……
Dante forced himself to look away, now was not the time to think about that, and he didn't want to feel like he had done anything wrong.
This exploration yielded remarkable results, as he had already recalled some things about Virgil. Guided by these fragmented memories, he arrived at an empty room and saw the painting at the end of the hall that belonged to the manor's owner, Sparta.
A full-length portrait with a blurred face.
"Well, it seems this is my dad."
Dante placed his hands on his hips and examined the painting indifferently. "But I still don't have any impression. What does this old man look like?"
As if possessed by some mysterious force, he reached out and touched the face in the picture that had melted into a mass of white spots.
Then the painting suddenly expanded, and the paint overflowed from the frame and submerged Dante.
"……Grass!"
This was Dante's last voice in this world. His raised middle finger trembled, and he slowly fell to the ground.
The world was spinning, and Dante woke up dazedly after experiencing a roller coaster ride that seemed like a trip to another world. The first sound he made was:
"--Grass!"
He got up from the ground, put his hand on his head which seemed to have been turned into a mess by this journey, and slowly opened his eyes to look at the world.
It was still a space resembling a shattered Limbo. This place was an endless sea of dim yellow. Skyscrapers rose from the chaotic ocean, dividing the sky from the sea. These buildings grew distortedly in a way that defied physics, seemingly untouched by human hands.
A massive metal statue wrapped in red cloth stood in the center of the ocean, chained to countless floating ruins. Seeing the statue in its "bound" state, Dante felt a dull headache.
“…What the hell is this place?”
This wasn't the scenery of Limbo. Dante had never seen those strange buildings or this giant statue in Limbo. Limbo never had such bright colors. The red sky there was always oppressive and gloomy.
"Isn't it the human world, the demon world, or the hell of spirits?"
So where else could this place be? It's really hard to guess.
This was truly difficult for Dante to guess. He walked step by step to the edge of the platform he was on and looked down. Broken rocks fell and disappeared into the sea. From his current height, Dante couldn't even see the waves below.
"If I fall down, I'll die... huh?"
Then another problem came to him. Dante turned his head and looked around. With his jumping ability, he couldn't get off this platform at all, so how could he get through here?
Or think further, how can we leave this world?
Don't know anything.
However, Dante's gaze followed the chains on the statue and fell behind him, where he discovered a huge stone with a mysterious red mark. It was the connection point between the chains and the ruins.
Should he try to break the chains, or climb up the statue's head along the chains? Thinking about this, Dante placed his hand on the mark.
Later, facts proved that this was the most correct choice. Dante almost immediately felt a surge of power flowing into his body. He subconsciously materialized a large sword behind him, but after absorbing this power, it transformed into a silver chain.
After all this time, this is what happened. Dante recalled the fighting style of the demon who wielded a short sword in one hand and a grappling gun in the other. He removed the weapon from his back and found that it had indeed transformed into a grappling gun-like device, with a chain surmounted by a snake head that could bite enemies and other objects. This greatsword seemed to be able to combine various different abilities, transforming into different forms.
This way, he would have a way to move around in the ruins.
Dante transformed the greatsword back into its original form and tried to chop the demonic rock that stretched out its arms and pulled the chain, but it didn't move at all. So Dante gave up the idea for the time being and decided to explore the ruins first.
After defeating the demon that had appeared out of nowhere, Dante used his hook to leap back and forth through the ruins, searching for other powers and clues to escape. Soon, he was once again inspired by the demonic power within him, learning how to attack with it. He imbued his moves with red magic power, wielding it with greater efficiency as he slashed through the demons.
Finally, he reached the front of the statue. In the darkness, it seemed as if a gaze came from the depths of the statue and fell on Dante.
"Dante..."
This was definitely not an auditory hallucination. Dante was sure that the statue was calling his name in a voice that was inaudible to human ears.
"Are you Sparta?" he shouted, but his voice was drowned by the wind. The statue didn't answer, but instead channeled its power into Dante's body.
The new power caused the "Rebellion" sword to transform once again, revealing a brand new form. Dante felt this power with some doubt and asked again:
"Are you a Spartan? You're not dead?"
Strange yet familiar memories, along with the demonic power, flooded into Dante's mind. Dante staggered twice, pressed his forehead, and regained his footing.
It's not death, but a seal, and the blood connection allows Dante to find him. If this is true, then it's no wonder that Virgil explicitly tells Dante that this is where he can find his past, allowing him to understand everything. But can this seal be broken? How can Dante himself return?
Unsealing it was unlikely, or Virgil would have done it long ago. Leaving must have been done in some way, or Virgil would still be here.
"Dante..."
The statue spoke again, its voice so distant it seemed to come from another world.
It said nothing more, but Dante understood it all.
Then Dante woke up from his long sleep.
