Monster Hunter in League of Legends
Chapter 21: The Candlelight Milio
Although the group was initially a little nervous, they gradually relaxed after seeing that the beasts obeyed Tarin and Nidalee's orders and did not harm the humans. They were even able to chat with Tarin and the others for a while.
"I never expected that we would have the chance to travel with the legendary Kashdashi herd."
The old traveling merchant shook his head in amazement.
This also caught the attention of Tarlin and Nidalee.
Nidalee was mainly drawn to the fact that her pack was called Kashdari, while Tarlin felt the name sounded somewhat familiar.
Noticing their curiosity, the old merchant explained:
"Kashdashi is the forest where you two used to live. People in the nearby towns talked about a lively giant feline when they were trading with the flesh-toothed beasts. In addition, a hunter happened to encounter it, so we called it the Kashdashi tigress."
Upon hearing this, Nidalee nodded, thinking that the name Kashdaz was quite good and could be used as the name of the beast pack in the future... However, after thinking about it carefully, Nidalee felt that this matter still needed to be discussed.
Since Tarlin is now the master of the beast horde, as a follower, one can offer suggestions, but cannot make direct decisions.
Tallinn, however, was still trying to recall where he had heard the name before.
As they pondered, a somewhat dilapidated but very cozy little village came into view at the end of their sight.
"This is it," the old traveling merchant said. "Elder Lupe of the village was once a member of the Ishuokenyuentar, but for some reasons I'm not quite sure about, he was exiled here."
Just as the old merchant was still talking, the villagers noticed the herd of beasts. Then, accompanied by a whistle, a group of nervous young men picked up their wooden spears, nervously gathered together, closed the gate, and prepared for battle with their bows drawn.
These people were secondary; what truly put pressure on Tallinn was the old woman who arrived upon hearing the news. She was dressed in simple cloth and looked incredibly old, but with a mere wave of her hand, the earth hummed, and several arcs of axioms, common weapons of Ixtal, floated in the air, radiating an earthy yellow aura.
This guy must be Elder Lupe.
Seeing this, the old traveling merchant smiled wryly and said, "The beast horde is still too dangerous for the village, Mr. Tarlin. I'll go and talk to them first."
"Yes." Tarin nodded.
They weren't worried about the old merchant turning the tables, since the other survivors of the merchant guild were still in the beast herd.
As the elderly traveling merchant approached the village, a slightly disheveled, brown-skinned boy exclaimed excitedly, "It's Grandpa Kate!"
The words caused a stir among the village guards.
As Tarlin gazed at the boy from afar, he recalled where he had heard of the Kashdashi herd and the Kashdashi tigress.
Thinking this, a playful look appeared on Tarlin's face.
The reason is simple: it's the same as what Tarin thought when he first heard "The Exiled Yuntar," and it's the same hero associated with this concept—the 163rd hero to appear in League of Legends, the Candle Milio.
Of course, in this village, Milio is not the central figure in solving the problem, but rather his grandmother and the reason for the family's exile.
His grandmother, Lupe, and great-aunt, Luni, were twin sisters. The former passed the test of the sacred relic, Vidarion—the final test machine of the Ixtalians for the primordial axioms—by using the earth element and the latter by using the fire element, and became a member of the Ixtal ruling class, Yuntar.
However, after this, Milio's great-aunt Luni was arrested for plotting a rebellion against the Council of Elders of Yuntal, and Lupe was also implicated. Luni disappeared without a trace, while Lupe was exiled to the most remote corner of Ixtal.
Fortunately, Milio's family did not succumb to despair. Instead, they transformed the place into a paradise when Milio was born, allowing him to grow up in happiness and warmth. Milio is one of the few characters in Runeterra whose stories are not filled with too much bitterness and hatred.
Or rather, a character with an optimistic spirit.
The story of the Kashdazar pack is mentioned in his short story "Milio's Amazing Adventure Report," which tells the story of his encounter with Nidalee.
The storyline of that story should take place a long, long time later, when Nidalee has fully mastered both human and beast forms and has already met Neeko, forging an unbreakable bond.
Milio, on his way to Ixtal's capital, Ixoken, unexpectedly encountered Nidalee's herd. By helping the young beasts in the herd recover from their injuries, he gained Nidalee's approval and trust.
In this way, it perfectly matched the village he had guessed.
While Tallinn was still thinking about Lupe and Milio, the village relaxed a little after the traveling merchant's explanation.
A moment later, the old woman who controlled several axiomatic arcs leisurely followed the old merchant into Tarin and the others' line of sight. She then stared at Tarin and Nidalee for a while before asking with some curiosity, "Didn't you say there were void creatures? Where are they?"
Upon hearing Lupe's question, Tarin reached out and silently recited "extract," and Kha'Zix's corpse was retrieved from his system inventory and placed on the ground.
Upon seeing this, Lupe's eyes narrowed slightly, but he still maintained his composure and said, "This is... spatial magic? That's quite rare."
"Just a simple trick," Tarin shook his head.
Tarlin had no intention of adding any unfounded titles to himself—especially in the area of magic.
Although many people believe that magic is simply about chanting a few words to unleash powerful spells.
However, as far as Tarin knows, putting aside the arcane magic used by Ryze, the primordial axioms advocated by Scythal alone are quite 'geometry' and 'mathematics'.
Because in the teachings of the ancient lord Skana, the Ixtals' understanding of magic is based on the core concept that "the world is the convergence of the forces of matter."
Therefore, in the Ixtalite concept, all the rules of elemental magic are defined by a series of "primordial axioms".
Therefore, Ixtal's magic is not released by intuition or emotion, but by memorizing, remembering, understanding axioms, outlining geometric lines with a special spellcasting material called "Suso", and weaving elements according to axiomatic logic.
In the process of weaving, this is not a magic of a single element, but rather the underlying law that governs all elemental changes. The most obvious manifestation of this is that it is formulaic, procedural, deducible, and reproducible.
Calling himself a space mage in front of these materialistic spellcasters would be incredibly embarrassing if he were asked to write papers and conduct academic discussions—but Tallinn does have some unique insights into life energy.
Upon hearing Tarin refer to this spatial storage as a simple trick, Lupe's face showed a hint of surprise, but he didn't say anything more. After all, similar research topics were very common among the Yuen Tar hierarchy, and each Yuen didn't want their research progress to be known by other Yuen members.
Thinking this, Lupe looked at Kha'Zix's corpse and asked:
"The invasion of Ixtal by Void creatures is indeed a very serious matter, so what are your thoughts, Your Excellency?"
"We can put the matter of the void creatures aside."
Tarlin interrupted Lupe, then looked with great interest at the boy standing behind the village gate, gazing curiously at the scene, and said, "That boy, that must be Milio, right?"
Upon hearing Tallinn's words, Lupe's eyes narrowed slightly, and then she said, "What's it to you?"
"Because Milio's future is inextricably linked to the future of all Ixtal."
Tarin said, "Lupe, I don't think you can give Milio any deeper guidance, because you became Yuntar based on your understanding of the axioms of the earth, while fire is Lunee's talent."
"Don't mention that name!" Upon hearing the name of Luni, the woman who had led to the exile of her entire family, Lupe's face showed deep disgust and repulsion. She then looked warily at Tarin and said:
"And who exactly are you? What's your purpose here?!"
Seeing Lupe's wary expression, Tallinn gestured for him to calm down, then pointed to his own head and said:
"In fact, this is the first time I have met Milio, but when I saw him, some memories from the past and the future naturally came to mind."
Upon hearing Tallinn's explanation, a look of confusion appeared on Lupe's face, but Tallinn continued unhurriedly:
"Although all I can see are fragments of the past and the future, it has undeniably made me aware of many things. These include the outbreak of the Void War and the many future disasters. The reason I am here is simply to convey the message of the impending Void War to Ixtal, so that the people here can prepare for it."
After hearing Tarin's explanation, Lupe nodded suspiciously, then looked at Tarin and said, "So... you're the so-called 'Prophet'?"
"It largely depends on whether you believe it or not."
Tallinn neither confirmed nor denied it.
Faced with Tallinn's ambiguous attitude, Lupe became increasingly indecisive.
Ultimately, it was mainly because too many things had happened all at once, leaving Lupe somewhat confused—first, he heard about the beast horde attacking the village, then about the void creature invasion, and now the appearance of these prophets, Milio's situation, Luni's message, and the family's current state… all these situations overlapped and intertwined, leaving Lupe in a state of mental chaos, so he simply asked:
"What other future of Milio did you see?"
"a lot of."
Tarin stared at Milio not far away for a while, but then looked away and said:
"I can see that Milio's fate is intertwined with Ixtal's, and the power he possesses may become a new axiom, thus driving Ixtal toward change."
Upon hearing this, Lu Pei opened her eyes in surprise, then shook her head and said:
"No, I think you're completely mistaken... While Milio's flames and the axioms of flame may seem similar, they are actually completely uncontrollable. Although Milio does possess the rare ability to resonate with the elements naturally, this resonance is not the resonance of the primordial axioms, let alone becoming a completely new axiom."
"Perhaps it's simply because he hasn't yet realized the hidden talents he possesses?"
Tallinn said, "Ultimately, if possible, why not let me give it a try?"
"...You?" Upon hearing this, Lu Pei paused, then said with some suspicion, "Is it...that spatial trick?"
"No, that trick was just a trick." Upon hearing this, Tarin shook his head and then said, "What I'm good at, to be precise, is life energy and the transformation of life forms."
As he spoke, Tarin stretched out his hand, and then, to Lupe's astonishment, the hand slowly grew larger, growing sharp claws and bone spurs, thick skin and hard keratin, and claws as sharp as knives and covered with serrations.
Looking at Tarin's hand, which then returned to its original state, Lupe exclaimed in surprise, "You're a shapeshifter?"
"I suppose so," Tarin said. "Thanks to this ability, I can more clearly sense the flow of life energy and the operation of the ecosystem. This is somewhat similar to the power that I see Milio wielding in the future, and it might be able to help me understand things by analogy."
Hearing Tallinn's words, Lupe fell silent, and after a moment sighed, said:
"So much has happened so suddenly... I think you need to calm down and think things through. If you'd like, perhaps you could rest in the village for a while?"
"Of course, no problem."
Tallinn nodded, then asked, "However, regarding the beast herd, what are the village's plans?"
Upon hearing this, Lupe also turned his gaze to the herd of beasts beside him, a complex look appearing in his eyes.
Far from Isuoken, Lupe was left with only a few family heirloom axiomatic arcs as weapons. Over forty Paka jungle cats had entered the village; if nothing happened, all was well, but if something did, and he was tied down by Tarlin, the entire village would suffer heavy losses…
Thinking it over, Lu Pei sighed and said, "How about the open space outside the village? I'll arrange for the villagers to set up some shelters to protect us from the wind and rain, and I'll also provide some food."
"That will be troublesome." Tarin understood Lupe's concerns and seemed quite satisfied. Seeing Tarin's calm demeanor, Lupe's trust in him increased.
Seeing the group chatting happily, Rengar nodded – since Tarlin had arrived safely, there was no need for him to stay any longer.
However, just as Rengar was thinking of saying goodbye, Tarin turned his gaze to Rengar and said:
Are you getting ready to leave?
