Wasteland Lord: Starting from Thirty Days to Live
Chapter 48 Releasing the Tiger Back to the Mountain
Just as Vulture woke up his underlings, a group of armed refugees rushed up and surrounded them.
The underlings didn't even have time to know what had happened; they had just groggily gotten up when they were surrounded by a group of people, and they were so scared that their souls almost left their bodies.
Venomous Fang stood up, his face fierce and seemingly unfazed, but a bead of sweat on his forehead betrayed his true feelings.
"What are you doing? Are you trying to start a war?"
Serena stepped forward.
"You criminals have incurred the wrath of the people, and I now represent the will of all the people to judge you!"
Poison Fang chuckled, his bravado masking his underlying cowardice.
"Jud me? Come on, try and see!"
Wielding his weapon, Venomous Fang spun around like a mad dog, actually intimidating the crowd. Because of his long-standing reputation, they dared not take another step closer.
"Young Miss, we've always kept to ourselves, why are you suddenly going to such extremes? Although our methods were a bit ruthless, we protected everyone's safety on the way into the river bend. Now that we're no longer useful, are you going to kill us?"
Upon hearing this, everyone couldn't help but show thoughtful expressions.
What Venomous Fang said made some sense. Ever since Serena's guard was almost wiped out, it was indeed this group of thugs who were maintaining order and repelling the monsters.
However, it's hard to say how well order has been maintained.
After all, these thugs were born into local criminal gangs and had bad habits they couldn't shake off. They always put their own people first and often engaged in bullying, but they hadn't yet reached the point of being completely lawless.
Seeing that the atmosphere had eased a bit, Sam immediately stepped forward.
"Have you all forgotten what happened just now, when Vulture tried to insult the young lady? I will absolutely not let those people get away with this."
Big Mouth Sam told the story, and that's when Fang Eyes learned what had happened.
Venom's eyes darted around, and an idea suddenly popped into his head. He kicked the vulture beside him, who was still in a daze.
"You scoundrel! How could you do such a despicable thing? I've told you before not to harass women. We may be criminals, but we are also Robin Hoods who rob the rich to help the poor. What you're doing is ruining our reputation. I can't let you stay here!"
Vulture knelt on the ground, looking at his boss with surprise and panic.
"Not the boss... but you said..."
Before Vulture could finish speaking, Venomous Fang swiftly chopped off his head with a single stroke.
The head flew high into the air, a spray of hot blood splattered on the ground, and the entire body collapsed stiffly to the ground.
There was a three-second silence, then Serena screamed.
Sam quickly shielded him behind him.
Venomous Fang looked up and saw that the people carrying all sorts of weapons were intimidated by his ruthlessness, and he was quite satisfied with the effect.
"Gentlemen, I have personally killed the culprit. Do you have anything else to say?"
The group looked at each other, at a loss for what to do.
They originally came to attack under the pretext of the vultures, but they didn't expect that Venomous Fang would be so ruthless, even killing his loyal underlings.
"Alright, now that the matter is resolved, everyone should go back to sleep. I don't want anyone to bring this up again tomorrow."
The refugees actually began to lay down their weapons, some even turning away in bewilderment.
"Wait!"
Suddenly, a sharp shout rang out among the refugees.
Everyone looked toward the source of the sound and discovered it was Old Martin.
Old Martin still wore a wary and serious expression.
"You think killing Vulture is the end of it? You almost fooled us. We're here to kill you today!"
"You're a scoundrel who goes back on his word and has absolutely no credibility. Today we want to kill you, but who knows if you'll retaliate if we let you go? So today, it's a fight to the death!"
Venom's expression darkened; that was indeed what he was thinking.
He was thinking of getting rid of these people first, and then settling scores with them later.
However, Martin was a shrewd man and had no intention of reconciling with his enemies. He knew that once something was done, there was no going back.
However, while Old Martin understood this principle, some others did not.
That's Serena.
Seeing that the refugees had come to their senses again after Old Martin's angry shout and were about to be slaughtered, Venomous Fang gritted his teeth and made a snap decision. He suddenly knelt down and quickly crawled toward Serena.
Serena just screamed and backed away.
"Young lady, please, spare me! I know I was wrong. How can you be so heartless? Aren't you known for your mercy? I'm a refugee too! I beg for your mercy as well. For the sake of the time I fought for you, can't you let me go?"
Poison Fang cried without warning, tears streaming down its face, and it actually looked incredibly pitiful.
As Serena retreated in fear, a pang of pity unexpectedly welled up within her.
She shook her head frantically, denouncing her own weakness, but then the fangs began to kowtow to her incessantly, and she was rendered speechless.
"Should we... or let them go?"
Old Martin and some sober hardliners stared in disbelief.
"I mean... can they leave and never come near the group again?"
Seeing that she was showing signs of relenting, Venomous Fang immediately thanked her repeatedly and put her words to use.
"Merciful lady, you are the kindest person in the world, even a saint would not be more so. I will remember you for the rest of my life."
He stood up immediately after saying that and ran away as fast as he could.
"Brothers, haven't you heard what the young lady said? Run! Never come back!"
Venomous Fang ran faster than he spoke. Before he could finish speaking, he had already run seven or eight meters away and disappeared into the dark forest in no time.
His men looked at each other, then ran away, following Venomous Fang.
The group disappeared in a flash.
Those refugees were merely a mob, incited to their own advantage. Without anyone making decisions, they were just a disorganized rabble. Now that Serena had personally said she would spare Venom, they dared not act rashly and simply let them go.
Old Martin sighed in frustration, tossed his weapon to the ground, and turned away without a word.
The refugees didn't know what had happened, but they felt that the matter was resolved once the Fiends and their gang left, so they all put down their weapons and went back home.
Only Serena remained where she was, still shaken, but vaguely felt that she had done something wrong, though she didn't know what she had done wrong.
What she was thinking was: 'Shouldn't mercy... be the most basic quality of a lord? Have I done something wrong?'
However, if Serena had read some history books and learned about the Eastern wisdom of another time and space, she would know what it means to "be merciful in command of an army" and "let a tiger return to the mountain."
But now that the Venomous Fang gang has left, it's no use saying anything now.
The group of Fiends fled into the depths of the forest as if their lives depended on it, and only stopped when they were sure that no one could catch up with them.
"Boss? We're just going to run away like this?" the subordinate asked.
Venomous Fang stared venomously at the spot behind them where they had run out.
"How could that be? If I ever get the chance, I'll wipe them all out!"
Just as Venom Fang uttered these words, a disdainful voice came from the treetops of the dark forest.
"Useless! Why didn't you dare fight them just now? Only one of you died! The good show I wanted didn't happen, you piece of trash!"
"Who!" Venomous Fang shouted alertly.
On the treetop, a slender girl suddenly jumped down. It was a tree that was more than ten meters high, but she jumped down as if it were a small step.
She emerged from the darkness, revealing half of her burned face.
"I just tipped you off, have you already forgotten about your savior so quickly?"
