Chapter 90 Li En is the real madman
Umbrella School.
Today is Sunday, and most students have left school to go home, leaving only a few boarding students and teachers on duty.
The battle had been raging for some time in the open space in front of the teaching building.
A huge green figure grabbed a soldier with one hand, like squeezing a rag doll, and casually slammed him to the ground.
The soldier's body exploded the moment it hit the muddy ground, splattering blood everywhere, with bits of flesh wrapped in his uniform flying in all directions.
The green giant straightened up and let out a deafening roar towards the sky.
There were also many soldiers standing around.
They carried all sorts of weapons they couldn't name, spread out in formation, and continued to fire at the giant.
One of the soldiers held a long gun that glowed blue. The energy bars on the side of the gun were increasing in number, and when they were fully charged, the gun fired an electromagnetic projectile.
The blue orb, trailing an arc of electricity, struck the giant's chest directly, exploding into a spiderweb of lightning that enveloped the giant's entire upper body.
The giant's body trembled twice.
The electric current was still crackling on his skin, but he had already locked his gaze on the soldier holding the electromagnetic gun.
He raised his right foot and stomped it on the ground.
The ground trembled violently, and all the surrounding rubble was shaken into the air.
He stretched out his huge palm and waved it forward.
The loose rocks hanging in mid-air instantly transformed into cannonballs, raining down on the soldiers in front of them.
More than a dozen people were hit at the same time. Some fell to the ground on the spot, while others were thrown several meters away and crashed to the ground, where they did not move again.
Behind the teaching building, on the ground floor of the laboratory building.
Connors' face was ashen as he repeatedly pressed his finger on the phone screen, but there was still no signal.
He looked up at Melinda and Natasha and shouted, "Protect the students, no matter what!"
Behind him, Mindy and Frank Jr., along with several other boarding students, huddled tightly in a corner.
Mindy gripped Frank's sleeve, her lips pressed into a thin line.
Melinda took out her phone and scanned it; there was no signal.
She put her phone away without saying a word.
The military's operation this time was far too well-prepared; the entire school area's signal was completely blocked, and even the satellite frequency band was cut off.
There's absolutely no way to contact S.H.I.E.L.D.
Natasha already had the pistol in her hand, the muzzle pointed diagonally at the ground, her eyes fixed on the direction of the laboratory entrance.
She didn't look at Melinda and spoke directly.
"Just protect the children; these soldiers are just throwing their lives away."
Her face was cold.
Not long ago, Connors took the three newly made Dragon Potions out of the incubator.
He was just about to make a phone call to inform Lee En when General Ross led his troops straight into the school.
Without prior notice or any formalities, he walked straight into the laboratory, stood in front of Banner and Connors, and reached out to ask for the Rising Dragon Potion.
Banner stood in front of the lab table, trying to keep his voice down as he explained, "Currently, only Li En has undergone human testing, and the data is not yet sufficient to prove zero side effects."
"According to the plan, Connors and Frank should try it first, and then it can be used on Betty after confirming that it is safe."
Ross had no intention of discussing this with him.
He stood at the door, his tone and posture commanding.
"Give the Rising Dragon drug to the military, and our laboratory can immediately replicate it and begin mass production."
"Regarding human trials, we have as many samples as we need; there's no need to waste time here."
Banner froze, staring wide-eyed at Ross.
This person is his girlfriend's father.
But Betty's name didn't appear at all in what the other person just said.
The phrase "as many samples as you need" struck Banner like a needle piercing his eardrum.
During his time at school, his mindset has completely changed compared to when he first arrived.
Every day I spend time with these kids from Hell's Kitchen, watching them go from never speaking to raising their hands and going up to the front of the class to solve problems.
He gradually realized that what he was doing was right.
Even if only one child is willing to turn an extra page in their book after class because of his lecture, it is meaningful.
The man standing in front of him right now, Ross, hadn't come here for Betty at all!
A surge of heat pumped from my heart and rushed to my brain.
"Get out." Banner's voice was low, each word sounding like it was being forced out from between his teeth.
"The Rising Dragon Potion is not for you."
Bang! A gunshot rang out.
Banner looked down at his stomach.
The bullet pierced the hem of the shirt, and blood seeped out from the bullet hole, flowing down the belt.
He reached out and covered his wound, then slowly collapsed to the ground.
Ross turned his head.
The guard behind him was still trembling, and smoke was rising from the muzzle of his gun.
The soldier's lips trembled slightly, and he said in a shaky voice, "Just now—his face turned green for a moment."
Ross turned his gaze away from the soldier and looked back at Banner, who was clutching his wound and leaning against the lab table.
He shook his head, his tone carrying a hint of businesslike regret.
"You were an important asset to our military, and it's a pity that you died here like this."
"9
He raised his hand, ready to order the Rising Dragon Potion to be forcibly taken away.
The laboratory door was pushed open.
Melinda and Natasha walked in quickly, followed by Mindy and several students, including Frank Jr.
As soon as the children came in, they rushed to Banner's side. Mindy knelt down and pressed her hand against the wound on Banner's stomach, blood oozing out from between her fingers.
Frank stood still, his eyes darting back and forth between Ross and the still trembling soldier.
Ross glanced at Melinda and Natasha, his tone flat and emotionless: "This is an internal affair of the United States, and it's none of your business, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s, to interfere."
Melinda and Natasha exchanged a glance but said nothing.
Ross is right.
S.H.I.E.L.D. is an international organization and has no right to intervene in U.S. internal military affairs.
If the two of them were to take action at this time, it would be similar in nature to a diplomatic incident.
This is a responsibility they cannot bear, and neither can Nick Fury.
In that instant, Banner's body began to swell.
The shirt ripped open along the seam, the skin turned a deep green, and the person seemed to inflate upwards like a balloon.
He stretched out his two arms, which had become incredibly thick, and grabbed the heads of the two guards standing beside Ross, one on each side.
With his knees slightly bent, he smashed through the laboratory window like a cannonball, carrying two people straight to the open space in front of the teaching building.
Hulk slammed the two soldiers to the ground, creating two shallow craters in the mud.
Da da da da.
An armed helicopter had been hovering overhead for some time now.
The Gatling gun under the fuselage began to spin, and bullets rained down like a storm, hitting Hulk and making crackling sounds.
Sparks flew everywhere from the green skin; the bullets were all deflected, leaving not even a white mark.
The gunner on the helicopter, finding that the Gatling gun was having no effect, immediately gave a signal to the pilot.
The nose of the plane turned slightly, and the rockets on the side pylons were launched simultaneously, two warheads trailing white smoke heading straight for Hulk's chest.
Boom!
The blast wave, carrying debris and dirt, pushed outwards, creating a crater several meters in diameter in the open space.
Black smoke billowed into the sky, mingling with the still-swirling column of smoke in the distance.
Hulk emerged from the pit, not even a speck of dust on him.
He looked up at the armed helicopter that was adjusting its angle, his chest suddenly bulged, and he opened his mouth wide, letting out a deafening roar.
"Hulk!"
He spread his arms, his two thick arms making a circle in the air before aiming them at the helicopter.
A sudden slap.
Snapped!
The shockwave exploded between his palms, compressing the air into an invisible wall that shot violently toward the sky.
The helicopter's rotor blades were torn to pieces the instant the shockwave hit them, with metal blades scattering everywhere.
The fuselage lost lift, spun wildly and crashed into the barren land, its fuselage deformed from the impact.
Hulk rushed forward, grabbed the helicopter's tail boom with both hands, and lifted the entire wreckage from the ground like a metal bar, swinging it left and right.
The dull thuds of metal hitting the ground echoed one after another, making the windows of the teaching building vibrate.
In no time, the helicopter was smashed into a flattened metal disc, and the soldiers inside were no longer human.
Hulk didn't stop.
He threw the helicopter to the ground, jumped up, and stomped hard on the wreckage.
With a loud bang, the fuel tank exploded from being stepped on, and flames and black smoke shot into the air.
Hulk stood on the burning wreckage, spread his arms, and roared at the sky once more.
The roar drowned out the crackling of the flames and echoed throughout the school.
Now inside the laboratory.
Connors looked out the window at the towering flames.
He gritted his teeth, reached into the incubator, took out a vial of Rising Dragon Potion, removed the protective cap, and plunged it into his stomach.
The moment the needle pierced the skin, a tingling sensation surged up from the base of the severed arm, as if something that had been blocked for a long time had suddenly been unblocked.
He looked down and saw that in the sleeve that had been empty for many years, bone fragments were growing outwards, with layers of muscle and blood vessels covering it, and the skin extending along with it.
Within seconds, a complete hand appeared where there had been only a stubble.
Connors held his newborn right hand up to his eyes, trying to open his fingers and then clench them.
My knuckles cracked a few times, the force was real, and I could feel the temperature when my fingertips touched my palm.
He stood there, stunned, for a long time.
General Ross rushed over, his hands gripping the edge of the lab table, his voice trembling with excitement.
"Professor Connors, this medicine can make America great again!"
"The country needs you!"
Connors lowered his hand from in front of his eyes, turned to face Ross, and then spoke, word by word.
"Fuck—oil!"
He shoved Ross away, and with little force, Ross fell backward, knocking over a stool before coming to a stop.
Connors had already turned and rushed out of the lab, running into the next room.
Frank lay on the hospital bed with his eyes closed, a breathing mask still on his face, his chest rising and falling slowly.
Without hesitation, Connors unscrewed the second vial of Rising Dragon Potion and plunged the needle into Frank's neck.
As the medication was fully injected, the beeping of the heart monitor suddenly accelerated, and the waveform on the screen jumped up sharply.
Frank opened his eyes.
He reached out and ripped off his mask, pulled the IV tube off the back of his hand, and sat up in bed.
Before I could even ask what was going on, a deafening roar came from outside the window.
He glanced out the window; though he couldn't see the wasteland, he could see the school buildings, realizing they were in school. He asked, "What's that big guy doing here?"
Ms. Kang quickly explained, "That's Mr. Banner, a member of our school. Ross is trying to steal our research results."
"Mr. Banner is a good person. This is an anesthetic for animals, specifically for numbing elephants. I even increased the dosage."
He took out a syringe of anesthetic from the cabinet next to him; it contained a thick, white liquid.
This thing was originally prepared by Li En to prevent things from getting out of control.
Unexpectedly, their research was very successful and had no side effects, so it has been kept here ever since.
"I understand." Frank didn't ask any further questions.
I jumped out of bed and stretched, my bones cracking and popping.
He then ripped off his hospital gown, revealing his chest muscles covered in scars.
Frank took the needle, looked at the frighteningly thick one, wrapped the anesthetic in his palm, and walked out the door shirtless.
He had just stepped out of the room when he bumped into Ross, who was walking towards him from the direction of the laboratory.
Their eyes met in mid-air.
Frank smirked. "Ross, do you think I'm crazy?"
Ross replied coldly, "You're a mad dog."
Frank wasn't angry.
He laughed even harder, his shoulders shaking as he did so.
Then he took a step forward, turned and passed by Ross, leaving behind his last words in the instant they passed each other.
"So, do you think someone who can get a mad dog to work for them willingly would be a normal person?"
Ross stood frozen in place.
"Prepare for your whole family's funeral."
Frank's voice came back from the front of the corridor, his tone calm, as if he were explaining something trivial.
"That guy is different from me. If he goes berserk, even if you're a general, the president will die."
Ross stood there, staring blankly at Frank's departing figure, his body swaying slightly.
Frank did not look back.
He had heard those people outside praising Li En many times.
The best police officers, the swordsman of Hell's Kitchen, the guardian of Umbrella Academy—none of them even scratched the surface.
Frank understood from the first day he met Lee.
That's a madman.
Of course, I don't mean the kind that requires being locked up in a mental hospital.
Rather, it's the kind of rule that ignores everyone's implicit obligation to follow.
The madness to overthrow anything that seems unshakeable.
Frank would unleash his fury on criminals without reservation.
But he never considered taking action against the army.
This is a deeply ingrained rule.
But what if the same thing happened to Lee Eun?
Anyone who stands in his way, regardless of their status or rank, will be shunned by him.
This is Lee Eun.
Frank walked to the wasteland and stopped about twenty meters away from Hulk.
"Hey, big guy, we meet again." He looked up at the green face and grinned.
"You beat me up pretty badly last time."
Hulk suddenly turned his head and stared at Frank for half a second.
"Hulk!" he roared, his voice a mixture of anger and some inexplicable rage.
Frank lowered his center of gravity and used his legs to push off.
He kicked up two clumps of mud from the ground and charged straight toward the Hulk.
Having taken the first step, he had already roughly figured out the condition of his current body.
His speed and explosiveness have at least doubled since the injury, his scapula has a greater range of motion than before, and the stress his knees experience when impacted is much less than expected.
Hulk spreads his arms, about to use that move again, clapping his hands together, creating a shockwave, and his hands begin to close.
Frank pushed off with his feet again, leaping into the air.
He curled his body into a ball in mid-air, suddenly increasing his speed by another level, and flipped over Hulk's head just as Hulk's two giant hands struck together.
The shockwave exploded beneath his feet, the blast pushing outwards and scraping a layer of mud from the ground.
But Frank is no longer on that plane.
He twisted and turned in mid-air, his body stretching out again, his right hand gripping the elephant tranquilizer dart, and aimed it at Hulk's eyeball.
*Snap!* The syringe tip broke in two, the needle not even managing to pierce the surface of the eyeball.
"Walter?" Frank had barely uttered a syllable when the large green hand slapped him from the side, landing a solid blow on his body.
The immense force sent him flying, his body bouncing a few times on the ground before sliding a long distance and finally coming to a stop when he crashed into the school wall.
The wall was dented, and broken bricks fell from the edge of the dent.
Frank sat there with his back against the wall.
He raised his hand to wipe his mouth, leaving a red streak on the back of his hand.
He was hit head-on, but only coughed up a little blood.
Compared to the last time when his internal organs were shattered by a single punch, and he was left to die in bed with tubes inserted after surgery, the Rising Dragon Potion has significantly reduced the gap.
He clenched his fist, his knuckles cracking.
But it's still a long way off.
He looked up at Hulk, who was standing still and roaring.
Bullets were useless. Bombs were useless. Even an elephant's tranquilizer dart couldn't penetrate its eyelid.
This guy is just a green iron block with no foothold in his body.
Just then, a figure appeared on the roof of the teaching building.
He bent his knees slightly and jumped directly off the edge of the roof.
Without making any fancy moves in the air, the person plummeted straight down towards Hulk, accelerating faster and faster.
Frank's lips curled up slightly.
He leaned his back against the wall.
Let's rest here.
