One Piece: Honey Badger Speedruns the World
Chapter 55 The Attack of Vergo
The sea breeze dispersed the smoke of battle, and the Narwhal, aided by its power wheels and the wind, quickly distanced itself from the battlefield.
On the deck, Barr jumped around like a nervous monkey, anxiously checking every screw and every cable, muttering something to himself with concern.
Beside him, Thornton's massive four- or five-meter-long body lay sprawled in the middle of the deck like a stranded salted fish.
His eyes rolled back, his tongue lolling out, and with the rocking of the ship, salty seawater gushed rhythmically from his gaping maw.
"Brother Goss, where do we go next?"
Mia wiped the twin swords in her hands, walked to the bow of the ship, and looked at Goss, who was gazing into the distance.
Goss didn't speak, but instead pulled out a life card with charred edges from his pocket.
The tiny piece of paper seemed to have a life of its own in my palm, stubbornly and slowly wriggling towards the southeast.
That's Carrot's Vivre Card.
"Go pick up Carrot."
Goss looked in the direction indicated by the Vivre Card, then turned and shouted:
"Destination: Southeast! We're going to pick up the last crew member!!"
"Sorton! Take the helm!!"
"Hooray! Here we come, Captain!!"
On the cockpit, Thornton's massive body resembled a moving mountain.
His massive claws, covered in hard scales, grabbed the rudder, which looked like a toy plate to him, and excitedly spun it around.
Crunch-!
The sturdy rudder let out a scream, but under the brute force of the giant crocodile, it was precisely jammed in the southeast position.
The massive hull of the Narwhal shuddered violently, leaving a wild trail of drifting water on the surface of the sea.
"Mia! Full sails!!"
"learn."
A black figure instantly soared into the air. Mia, her feet on the ropes, moved like a graceful petrel between the masts dozens of meters high, her scabbard precisely slicing open all the sail ropes.
Whoosh—smack!
The enormous mainsail, painted with a honey badger skull, instantly caught the gale, bulging like lungs about to explode, and emitting an exhilarating whooshing sound.
"Baal! Full power!"
"This is going to cost a fortune!!"
Despite his obvious distress, Barr rushed into the engine room below deck, expertly pulled the red pressurization lever, and frantically poured fuel into the engine room.
Buzz—rumble!
The outer propellers on both sides of the hull spun wildly in an instant, stirring up white torrents.
……
Meanwhile, on the other side, the naval fleet was in complete disarray.
After emergency repairs, a group of shipwrights, covered in sweat, managed to piece together a barely usable single-person boat from the wreckage.
"Lieutenant General Vergo! It's fixed! But this ship is too small; it can only carry one person..."
"That's enough."
Vergo coldly interrupted the marine.
He glanced at the still-smoking mainship, then at Smoker, who was directing his soldiers to plug the leaks, a barely perceptible glint flashing in his sunglasses.
"Smoker, you stay here to direct the repairs. Make sure to restore operational capability as soon as possible and report the situation here to headquarters."
As he spoke, Vergo deftly untied the assault boat's mooring lines.
"Buggy, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, is currently missing. The pirate who possesses crucial information is over there. To prevent the secret from being leaked, I must personally go and check on his condition."
"Mr. Vergo, but you're all alone..." Tashigi said with some concern.
"That's an order."
Vergo did not offer any further explanation.
thump.
He jumped onto the wooden assault boat, which could only hold one or two people, and the small boat suddenly sank.
Immediately afterwards, Vergo grasped the two ordinary wooden oars with both hands.
boom!!!
As Vergo pulled his arms back sharply, two water columns several meters high erupted from the sea on either side of the oar.
The enormous reaction force caused the unremarkable little wooden boat to let out a mournful cry, its bow rising high, and the entire boat almost "flew" away from the sea!
Swish swish swish swish—!
Vergo's arms flared into two indistinct afterimages.
Under the dumbfounded gaze of Tashigi and the other marines, this small, dilapidated boat, driven entirely by human power, actually left a straight white shockwave on the sea!
That speed... was in no way inferior to a steam warship propelled at full speed!
"It's...it's a lie, right..."
A marine watched the retreating figure, which flew away like a torpedo skimming the ground, and his jaw nearly dropped to the ground.
"Using only manpower... to row at the speed of a warship?!"
"Is this... the strength of Lieutenant General Vergo, the base commander...?"
But he did not pursue the departing Narwhal.
Instead, it rowed straight toward Buggy's pirate ship, which was still floating on the sea.
Boarding that dilapidated pirate ship, surrounded by melted candles and charred wood.
Vergo walked expressionlessly past the unconscious pirates and went straight to the center of the deck.
There, Red-Nosed Bucky lay scattered among a pile of wood chips, his tongue lolling out, clearly still in a deep coma due to lack of oxygen.
Vergo crouched down, ignoring Bucky's comical sleeping face, and grabbed Bucky's left wrist.
It's completely bare.
Apart from a few traces left from the recent battle, there was nothing there.
"..."
Vergo froze for a moment.
He then quickly searched Bucky's pockets and collar, and even roughly examined all of Bucky's dismembered body parts.
No.
There was no trace of that glass armband.
"Oh……"
Vergo slowly stood up, looking at the Narwhal, which was almost a small black dot on the distant sea, his eyes behind his sunglasses narrowed into slits.
That red-nosed idiot couldn't possibly be smart enough to hide the things himself before he passed out.
The only explanation is—
Does anyone know what that is?
Someone beat them to it.
"Not just a brat with Conqueror's Haki..."
Vergo gripped the oar tightly, his voice low and menacing:
"You even know the secret of Captain John's treasure? It seems... you're more dangerous than I thought."
That was what Dover specifically asked for.
Since it's not on Bucky, it must be on that ship.
If the entire naval force were to move together, with so many people and so many eyes, the treasure would definitely be exposed to the Navy Headquarters, and then we wouldn't be able to hand it over to the family.
I must...act alone.
Murder, robbery, silencing witnesses.
Vergo jumped back into the small assault boat.
This time, he took off his white navy coat, a symbol of "justice," and casually tossed it into the sea, revealing his well-developed, iron-like muscles.
Whoosh!
The oars plunged into the water, and the sea surface exploded.
Vergo was like a silent shark, rowing his unassuming little boat across the vast ocean, relentlessly pursuing the direction in which the Narwhal had disappeared.
