Voldemort's mother was Merope, the youngest daughter of the Gaunt family (direct descendants of Slytherin). She fell in love with Tom Holmes, a rich and handsome Muggle from the next village. In the original story, he was killed after overhearing Voldemort, the fleshy creature hiding here, speaking.
