Hogwarts Summoning Guide
Chapter 65 Zoo or Jurassic Park
After talking with Zhuo Bi, the Mirror Man, for more than an hour, Bai Lin finally understood what the Black Witch Society was and what kind of love-hate relationship it had with the Seekers Family.
Don't be fooled by the Black Witch Society's reputation for being evil and domineering; the truth is quite the opposite. It's a shady organization of impoverished wizards struggling to make ends meet.
As one movie said, once you learn martial arts, there are many things you can't do. You don't want to farm, you disdain robbing, and you can't pass the imperial examinations. In the end, you either have to go to the countryside to teach boxing or work as a guard for others. No matter what, you're still poor and destitute.
Wizards are the same. Take Ron's family, for example. If his father didn't have a proper job at the Ministry of Magic, the whole family would probably have to make a living by farming that small plot of land.
For thousands of years, wizards have avoided the plagues of Europe and survived World War I and World War II. Many families with a history of thousands of years have basically monopolized the resources of wizarding society. Wizards without a distinguished background can only take the exams for positions in the Ministry of Magic after learning magic.
If you don't pass the exam, you either have to do jobs that magic can't solve, like working at Catherine's clothing store or making wands at a "wandmaker" shop, or you have to go home and farm. If neither of those options works, you can only resort to gray areas, such as using magic to work for Muggles or learning forbidden magic to make extra money. That's how the Dark Witch Guild was formed.
Zhuo Bi had a good talent for spatial magic, but his other subjects were mediocre. Without a powerful family to back him up, he was destined not to pass the entrance exam for the French Ministry of Magic. As a result, he ended up in the private sector and joined the Black Witch Society, making a living by opening safe houses for people or setting up spatial barriers and smuggling channels.
However, the Explorers family embarked on a massive project in Paris, aiming to create a commercial street even larger than Diagon Alley in London. Zobi eagerly went to work for them, but the Ross family's steward discovered that Zobi had a criminal record. After the task of opening the spatial rift was completed, they refused to pay him his wages, so Zobi called the Explorers family robbers.
These impoverished folk sorcerers already deeply resented the monopoly of large families, so Zhuobi, driven by malice, received news that an important figure was coming to Paris soon. He heard that it was Ross's grandson, so Zhuobi decided to stake out the Lyon train station, hoping to kidnap Ross's grandson and extort a hefty sum from Ross.
Thus, Bai Lin, who was carrying the Explorers family's house-elf, was targeted by Zhuo Bi, leading to this misunderstanding.
In the end, Bai Lin took pity on Zhuo Bi and gave him ten Galleons, along with his own wizard card. Bai Lin was speechless at Zhuo Bi's misunderstanding. He and Ross were not of the same race, so how could he be Zhuo Bi's grandson? Zhuo Bi insisted that wizards could use shapeshifting or potions to change their appearance, leaving Bai Lin speechless.
After seeing Zhuo Bi off, Finnis took a small note and walked to Bai Lin's side, saying, "My handsome master, the steward of Elder Ross's family already knows that you have arrived in Paris and has asked me to take you to the newly opened commercial street to meet you."
Bai Lin finished the rest of his coffee in one gulp, walked to a secluded spot, pinched Finis's finger, and in a flash, he was transported into another phantom form. Bai Lin felt that he was completely familiar with this feeling, as if he had stepped into Doraemon's Anywhere Door.
Compared to the quaint and old-fashioned Diagon Alley in London, the new magical shopping street is located on the edge of downtown Paris. It boasts beautiful scenery, wide streets, and a magical gate at the entrance. Using the latest disguise magic, it appears to ordinary Muggles as a dead end, and they will subconsciously ignore the fact that there is a road there. This effect is somewhat similar to the invisibility stone hat in Doraemon.
Several wizards were waiting in front of the magic gate when they saw the white phantom appear and greeted it warmly.
Bai Lin looked up and saw a handsome, sunny young man standing in the center. Although it was their first meeting, Bai Lin felt like he had seen him somewhere before. His build, posture, and even his micro-expressions were all quite familiar, but he couldn't quite place him. The others were probably stewards or similar personnel from the Ross family.
The handsome young man, no more than 20 years old, greeted them with a beaming smile, saying, "Welcome, Mr. Kelling, to Charlie's Magic Street!"
Bai Lin shook hands with him warmly, and the young man introduced himself. His name was Kaka, and he was the butler of the Ross family. He was in charge of many things on Charlie Street.
Kaka led Bai Lin through the gates of Magic Street. What greeted their eyes was a magnificent scene like a carnival celebration, decorated with festive and dreamlike decorations everywhere. Magical hot air balloons floated in the sky, and the streets were wide and clean, filled with exquisite sculptures and other artistic streetscapes.
Kaka said, "Charlie Street is divided into east and west directions. If you are a wizard, you can go to East Street. More than ten century-old shops have opened branches here. Wizards can satisfy all their needs here. Muggles can go to West Street. There are many novel gadgets and performances there to satisfy all Muggles' imaginations of the wizarding world."
Bai Lin asked with a somewhat strange expression, "Didn't we say we can't demonstrate magic in front of Muggles?"
Kaka chuckled and said, "These aren't ordinary Muggles. A significant proportion of wizards come from Muggle families. Their families have naturally seen and understand the wizarding world, and now they can participate in the lives of their wizarding family members and satisfy their curiosity on Magic Street!"
Bai Lin thought that the Quidditch World Cup also had Muggle stands, and he probably had the same idea. Moreover, the number of Muggle relatives of these wizards was quite large, and their overall spending power far exceeded that of the wizarding community. This was indeed an excellent way to make money.
Kaka led Bai Lin to a large gate in the middle of the street and said, "The Magical Zoo is a place that wizards and Muggle relatives are equally interested in, and it's also one of the landmarks of our Charlie Street. From now on, we'll have to rely on Mr. Kalin's hard work in managing it!"
Bai Lin looked at the zoo, which currently only had a ticket office and a main gate, and didn't even have a sign, and asked, "Is that the small island where we go in from here?"
Kaka excitedly said, "That's right. We will set up a permanent two-way gate here, powered by the magic recycling system of the entire Magic Street."
Kaka had two stewards open the gates of the magical zoo. Inside were several parallel passageways, two in and two out, all pitch black.
Kaka waved to the two stewards, who immediately began casting a spell, and one of the passages lit up instantly.
Kaka gestured for Bai Lin to follow him, saying as they walked, "However... there are still some minor issues on the island that haven't been resolved... I'm afraid Mr. Kelin's arrival is just in time..."
Bai Lin was taken aback, not understanding what Kaka meant, but still followed Kaka into the passage.
Bai Lin felt a flash of white light before his eyes. This was much better than Apparition. It was as if his body had passed through a wall of blowing air, like the wind wall at the entrance of many Muggle supermarkets. Then his feet went soft, and he found himself in a sunny wilderness with soft grass under his feet and towering trees in front of him.
"Master, watch out!" Phineas shouted. Before Bai Lin could even see what was in front of him, a huge creature descended from the sky, about to crush him under its foot.
Bai Lin nimbly dodged the massive claw that was pressing down on his head. Looking up, he saw a fully grown fire dragon, a colossal creature nearly seven meters tall, over ten meters long, with a wingspan of no less than ten meters. Its body was covered in glossy, dark blue scales, and its huge dragon head was full of fangs.
"Is this a zoo or Jurassic Park?!" Bai Lin exclaimed in horror.
