Chapter 45: The Great Battle Begins

"I knew Umbridge wouldn't let Dumbledore leave without a reason!" Professor McGonagall said bitterly, but when she tried to use the two-way mirror to notify Dumbledore, she found that the entire castle was affected by the magical magnetic field, and the signal could not be sent out at all.

Then the magic cannon fired again, with three loud bangs in succession. The fireball exploded on the protective shield once more, but it was clear that the shield's energy was not unlimited. The continuous bombardment would eventually break through the shield.

"Then we'll have to rely on ourselves!" Professor McGonagall, though old, still had her imposing presence. She drew her wand and led her men out of the castle with a fierce air.

From afar, they could see Bai Lin, Blake, and Catherine already standing in a protective shield on the open ground next to the castle, facing off against a group of people.

The group of people were still standing in the shadows of the grove, each dressed in a black robe resembling that of Dementors, their faces covered by hoods.

McGonagall walked to the edge of the protective barrier and roared, "Disgraceful dark wizards, how dare you! You openly attack Hogwarts!"

"McGirl!" A sharp female voice rang out from the grove, the sound like the edge of a blackboard eraser scraping across a blackboard, making one feel extremely uncomfortable.

"This is just a personal grudge today. You must hand over Sirius!" The female voice emerged from the woods. She had a flamboyant, frizzy hairstyle, wore a studded leather jacket, and casually threw on a black robe. She looked to be in her forties or fifties, but still had a flirtatious air about her.

Catherine walked to Bai Lin's side, and Bai Lin squeezed her hand; it was a little cold.

Blake clearly recognized her and growled, "Bella, it's you!"

McGonagall recognized her immediately: Bellatrix Lestrange, the infamous Death Eater, a fanatical follower of Voldemort, known for her ruthlessness; Neville's parents were tortured into a vegetative state by her. Although she was eccentric, she was extremely slippery, and the Auror Office had been tracking her for over a decade without success.

Lupin whispered to Bai Lin, "Bella is currently offering a bounty of five thousand Galleons." He was clearly already familiar with Bai Lin and knew his generous yet greedy nature.

"Hogwarts will not hand over anyone! But you, don't force us to take action, the Aurors will be here soon!" McGonagall said coldly.

"Hahahaha~" Bella let out a strange laugh, saying, "McG, you can call the Aurors all you want. We have all night to hide in your turtle shell. I don't believe it can protect you forever! Hahaha!"

As they were talking, three more large fireballs flew in from a distance and struck the protective shield. This time, the entire castle shook even more violently. Many items inside the building fell to the ground, and some paintings hanging on the walls also fell down, causing the gentlemen and ladies in the paintings to panic.

McGonagall knew that the protective shield was nearing its limit, and if no action was taken soon, it would be breached by the magic cannon, and then the castle would face a direct attack from the magic cannon.

"They don't need to hand me over, I'll come out myself!" Blake shouted. "I challenge you to a duel, Bella! You executioner!"

Bella chuckled incessantly, "I almost forgot, you also have two friends, what's their names again? Come on out, I'll take good care of you!"

"No! Sirius, don't go out!" A child's voice came from behind. Without turning around, everyone knew that Harry had arrived. He now considered Black his only family and would never stand by and watch him go to his death. Behind Harry were many Gryffindor and Hufflepuff students. Snape had successfully blocked the Slytherin students; their dormitories were beneath the Black Lake, far safer than those of Gryffindor.

"Professor McGonagall!" Bai Lin suddenly said, "Protecting the children is more important than anything else! Today's matter is just a personal grudge; we'll settle it!"

McGonagall frowned, but then she saw Catherine standing next to Bai Lin, nodding at her.

"Trust us! Today we're going to give the students a real hands-on lesson in Defense Against the Dark Arts!" Lupin shouted.

"Go back! Harry, this is a feud between the previous generation. Your task is to protect your friends and yourself!" Black shouted to Harry.

"Back to the castle!" McGonagall saw that more and more students were coming out, so she gritted her teeth and told the teachers to send the children back to the castle.

"As expected of Gryffindor, hahaha, a hero!" Bella mocked. As she spoke, the fourth round of bombardment arrived, the castle shook even more violently, and the blue light of the protective shield flickered.

"It's too late. You two go around to the back and destroy the magic cannon!" Bai Lin whispered to Blake and Lupin. "I'll hold off Bella and her men first!" Blake and Lupin exchanged a glance and nodded.

"Little Kai (Catherine's nickname)!" Bai Lin said to Catherine. Catherine understood, stepped forward, raised her wand, and shouted, "Ipardimenta! Ipardimenta! Ipardimenta!" three consecutive obstacle-filled spells.

The children, who were hiding far away in the castle and watching the battle through the windows, finally witnessed Catherine's powerful magic. They saw the terrain in front of them begin to change dramatically. They thought that raising an earthen wall one or two meters high would be good enough, but this time Catherine raised a wall three to four meters high, and there were three of them.

Black turned into a large dog in an instant, and Lupin also completed his werewolf transformation in the blink of an eye. Since it was not a full moon, Lupin still retained some of his sanity, and he wanted to vent his anger on the Death Eaters.

The two disappeared in a few flashes, probably circling around to the rear of the Death Eaters.

"Not bad masonry skills~" Bella mocked. Just as she was about to step forward and use the Shattering Curse to destroy the city wall, Bai Lin had already jumped onto the city wall and unleashed several consecutive attacks of Divine Sharpness at Bella.

Bella was a master of dark magic. Her wand glowed green, and she used it to deflect the swift and invisible wind blade. This reminded Bai Lin of the wizard battles in the later movies, where the wizards seemed to suddenly no longer need to chant spells, simply shooting magic projectiles from their wands (the nature of this magic was never explained). The opponents could also deflect these projectiles with the light from their wands, again without explanation. It was just a back-and-forth exchange, with magic projectiles flying everywhere.

Bella chuckled and said to Bai Lin, "Crusio! (Crushing Heart Curse)" She didn't want to kill Bai Lin instantly; she preferred to slowly torture people into madness rather than kill them outright.

"Phineas Ikentotam! (Stop the spell!)" Catherine appeared just in time, waving her wand and directly negating Bella's Crucifixion.

Bai Lin flipped over and, carrying Catherine, boarded the Fire Arrow. The Fire Arrow was obviously powerful enough, and since neither of them was very heavy, their flight was not affected at all. Bai Lin pulled the broom handle and flew directly into the air.
