Chapter 27 Trial of Loyalty

Bai Lin exposed Antonin's left arm, took a few photos of his body, and then quickly left the scene with Catherine. Soon, passersby discovered Antonin's body and reported it to the Auror office.

Although he knew perfectly well that the other party was a ruthless Death Eater, this was Bai Lin's first time killing someone, and it would be a lie to say he wasn't afraid. Before this, Bai Lin had thought that the wizarding world was very unreal, like a world in his dream, treating it as an immersive game. But in real combat, experiencing the terror of being on the edge of life and death firsthand, personally plunging a longsword into someone's chest, watching helplessly as Antonin's blood gushed from his chest and mouth, and hearing the gurgling sounds in his throat before he died, the guilt of that killing made Bai Lin feel very uneasy.

Catherine was still shaken. The two of them slipped into a closed clothing store. Catherine hugged Bai Lin tightly and buried her head in his chest. After a long while, she finally spoke, "Although he's a bad guy, I don't feel good about him."

Bai Lin sighed and said, "If he hadn't used the Death-Taking Curse first, I'm afraid I wouldn't have been able to do it."

Catherine said, "Death Eaters are terrifying. I don't know why you would risk dealing with them, but the two of us are still a bit outnumbered."

Bai Lin patted Catherine on the back, comforting her for a while, before deciding to tell her his plan, saying, "I have a talent that allows me to gain power by killing dark wizards or Dementors, and today is the first time I'm using this talent..."

Catherine was startled; she had never heard of such an incredible talent before. "Darling, you're not going to become a dark wizard too, are you?"

Bai Lin shook his head vigorously, saying, "Absolutely not! I will neither use unforgivable spells nor bow down to the mysterious man's power!"

Catherine held Bai Lin tightly, and before they knew it, they were kissing. Both Bai Lin and Catherine were new to romance, and they awkwardly kissed each other.

The two kissed for nearly ten minutes. Catherine's eyes were a little dazed, but she seemed to have made a great decision and said, "Whatever you want to do, I will support you!" Although Catherine was just a seamstress who ran a clothing store, all the residents of Hogsmeade were wizards. Catherine graduated from Beauxbatons School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which was on par with Hogwarts, and had a magic power of 46 points, making her a pretty capable witch.

Bai Lin went to great lengths to explain to Catherine the truth about Sirius Black and their alliance.

Bai Lin pondered for a moment and said, "Perhaps we need to get Harry and Black to recognize each other sooner. I need Black and Lupin to help me dispel the Dementors and then kill any lone ones. I feel that Antonin's arrival at Hogsmeade is not a coincidence; there's a good chance that other Death Eaters will come to Hogwarts!"

Catherine was very nervous, but in Bai Lin's arms, she was also filled with worry.

Bai Lin carefully recalled the relevant plot points, thinking to himself, "In the original story, when Dumbledore was still alive, Voldemort, who hadn't regained his strength, wouldn't have dared to attack Hogwarts. Furthermore, the Death Eaters had no reason to hunt down Black, since Black wasn't even a member of the Order of the Phoenix at that time!"

Bai Lin thought for a moment and said, "Could it be a Death Eater who hates Black a lot? I remember Black's cousin was a Death Eater, wasn't she?"

"You mean Bellatrix Lestrange?" Catherine exclaimed, suddenly realizing, "I've heard of that witch. She's the leader of a bunch of Death Eaters, absolutely wicked. I heard the list of good people she killed could fill an entire page."

Bai Lin glanced at the main quest information on the encyclopedia:

[Main Quest: The Battle for Hogwarts, Phase One: Trial of Courage (Completed)]

[Main Quest: The Battle for Hogwarts, Phase Two: The Trial of Loyalty (In Progress)]

[The Trial of Loyalty: Black, wrongly accused for twelve years, has a greatest wish: to reunite with Harry Potter and his father, help them uncover the truth of what happened, and ensure Peter Pettigrew receives the punishment he deserves.]

In the original storyline, Harry and Black didn't reveal the truth until almost New Year's Day in the haunted house of Hogsmeade. In the end, Black was forced to flee. Bai Lin couldn't wait that long, because his appearance seemed to have caused some unknown changes in the development of the whole situation.

Bai Lin said, "If we continue to speculate like this, it's very likely that Bella sent Death Eaters to get rid of Black. There are still a lot of Dementors at Hogwarts. They were all allies of the Dark Lord, so we really have to be on guard. I have a plan, and I need a few helpers to deal with the Dementor problem first so that we can focus on dealing with the Death Eater attack."

Catherine said resolutely, "Dementors are terrifying, my dear. You must be careful. I will investigate for you in Hogsmeade."

Bai Lin reassured Catherine and decided to facilitate Harry and Black's reunion ahead of schedule, starting with capturing Peter Pettigrew.

Bai Lin made up his mind and rushed to Gryffindor Castle without stopping. Today, whether they persuaded Ron or directly took action to seize it, they had to capture Scabbers.

When they arrived at Gryffindor Castle, it was packed with people. The students were in a state of panic and chaos. Bai Lin randomly asked a student and learned that the scene in the original story where the Fat Lady escaped had still happened. The painting she was in had been torn apart and several claw marks were left. It seemed that Black couldn't wait any longer and had come with Crookshanks to catch Scabbers.

The students were convinced that Black had come to assassinate Harry, and panic gripped Hogwarts. It wasn't until Dumbledore personally intervened that everyone calmed down. He then instructed the prefects to take the students back to their dormitories to rest, and ordered all the teachers to form a search party to search the entire Hogwarts overnight.

The students began to move about in a chaotic manner, with Professor McGonagall blocking the entrance to the Gryffindor dormitory. Bai Lin could no longer enter Gryffindor Castle. Looking around, he couldn't see Harry and Ron either. Just then, Lupin (who belonged to Gryffindor) passed by, and Bai Lin grabbed him, asking him to help find Ron and bring him Ron's rat.

Lupin didn't believe it at first; he thought Peter was dead. It wasn't until White described what Spotted looked like that Lupin fell silent and agreed to help him find the rat.

In fact, Lupin should have seen Ron's mouse on the train. He couldn't possibly not recognize it as Peter Pettigrew's Animagus. It's just that there was a small bug in the original plot.

Filch cursed Blake viciously as he gathered the teachers present and assigned them search and patrol duties.

Bai Lin reluctantly accepted the task of searching the entire fourth floor. But just as he was about to go on patrol with a heavy heart, he turned around and discovered an unexpected find. In the crowd, Ron's brother, Fred, one of the lively twins, was carrying an old backpack and chatting and laughing with some classmates. Judging from his appearance, he was not nervous about Blake's matter at all. However, Bai Lin saw a rolled-up old parchment in the corner of the backpack.

Bai Lin smiled secretly to himself, walked over without making a sound, grabbed Fred's arm, and pulled him into the deserted stairwell.
