Hogwarts Summoning Guide
Chapter 233 Hiroyuki Edogawa
The Sai Wan Cargo Terminal boasts a great location and beautiful scenery, being close to the prestigious Hong Kong University. Although it is a cargo terminal, the water quality nearby is well-maintained, with virtually no waves. The seawater sparkles beautifully in the sunlight.
The tourist map also says that this pier is the most popular place for Hong Kong residents to walk their dogs. During the day, the pier is full of workers, but at dusk, after the workers finish their work, the residents bring their dogs to walk on the pier, which is a beautiful sight in Hong Kong.
Bai Lin glanced around and indeed saw quite a few dogs on the dock. Perhaps it wasn't just locals who liked to walk their dogs there, because the dock was a completely open space, and many foremen and cargo owners also liked to keep dogs to guard their goods.
Bai Lin thought of the many police and gangster movies he had watched in his previous life. Many of these docks were controlled by gangsters. However, after circling the dock twice, he noticed that while there were indeed some thugs, it wasn't like the old Hong Kong movies where gangs were everywhere. Occasionally, there were also Royal Hong Kong Police officers patrolling the dock. When the thugs saw that Bai Lin was tall, muscular, and dressed plainly, none of them were foolish enough to cause trouble.
There were dozens of cargo ships of all sizes docked at the pier. At first glance, there was nothing unusual. The container stacks on the pier were even more difficult to deal with. About 80 of the containers were indeed sealed with goods, but another 20 containers were simply temporary living quarters converted by workers and cargo owners. Many other containers were abandoned and occupied by homeless people, which brought great obstacles to his investigation.
Theoretically, the interiors of nine containers stacked together could be opened up to form a factory, yet appear flawless from the outside. If a wealthy individual were willing, they could even use a row of hundreds of containers to create a large maze, just like in the movie "Cube." It would be extremely difficult for Bai Lin to search the entire dock.
Bai Lin looked at it for a while and suddenly chuckled. If there were any clues that required a large-scale search, he could have used the local enforcement team instead of doing it himself.
He strolled along to the main entrance of the dock, where he saw Hiroyuki Edogawa, wearing black-rimmed glasses, get off the tram and trot in.
Bai Lin stepped aside, feeling quite curious about Edogawa Hiroyuki and a strange sense of anticipation for a little surprise from him.
However, while the thugs at the dock didn't target Bai Lin, they spotted Edogawa Hiroyuki, who was alone. He was dressed as a high school student, wearing the uniform of a high-end private school (the uniforms of Hong Kong Magic School are very similar to those of ordinary private high schools, not the traditional robes of Hogwarts; the white shirts are made of very high-quality and exquisite fabric), and it was clear that he was a child from a wealthy family.
The thugs, like hungry wolves spotting a fat sheep, split into two groups and surrounded Edogawa Hiroyuki from both sides. Kidnapping him in broad daylight was out of the question, but extorting a thousand or eight hundred for cigarettes would be a piece of cake, wouldn't it?
Bai Lin turned to look at the patrol officer, but by sheer coincidence, he was nowhere to be seen. He wasn't worried about Edogawa Hiroyuki getting hurt; he could just clean up the mess for him later. If he couldn't even handle a few thugs, there was no need to keep him involved in this dangerous case.
Four thugs surrounded the somewhat thin Edogawa Hiroyuki. The boy frowned slightly, and it was clear that he was hesitant, but he refrained from using magic to solve the problem.
The thugs shoved him into a narrow alley between the shipping containers. Bai Lin followed at a distance, but after a loud crash from the alley, Edogawa Hiroyuki emerged, straightening his school uniform. A large footprint was clearly visible on his shirt, and his cheek was slightly abraded, but he remained calm, as if dealing with a trivial matter. Behind him, four thugs lay on the ground, clutching their bodies and groaning. It was clear that Edogawa Hiroyuki had been quite ruthless.
They were out of Bai Lin's sight for only ten seconds, but unexpectedly, Edogawa Hiroyuki solved the problem, leaving Bai Lin, who had just reached the alley entrance, somewhat embarrassed.
"Uncle, it's fine if you don't help, but how long are you planning to watch this show?" Edogawa Hiroyuki slung his small schoolbag over his shoulder and looked up at Bai Lin without any fear.
Bai Lin awkwardly touched his chin, wanting to argue a bit more, but Edogawa Hiroyuki continued, "You don't need to deny it. I can remember anyone I've met even once. You were right next to Uncle Basong when I was talking to him, and now you're here again. Is that just a coincidence?"
Bai Lin gave a thumbs up. This kid really had some skills. With a flick of his finger, he had set up a small sound barrier, so that as the two of them walked and talked, the passersby around them couldn't hear what they were saying.
"Spellcasting without a staff? Interesting..." Hiroyuki Edogawa muttered.
"It's a little awkward, but I don't mean any harm. I know you're investigating the potion case, and I think our goals are at least similar." Bai Lin and Edogawa Hiroyuki walked side by side toward the pier where many cargo ships were docked.
Bai Lin introduced himself: "Bai Lin, I just returned from England and was passing through Hong Kong to do some research for a friend."
Hiroyuki Edogawa generously extended a hand and said, "Hiroyuki Edogawa, nice to meet you!"
The two shook hands lightly, and Hiroyuki Edogawa said, "Kylin White, so that's you?"
Bai Lin shrugged and said, "Just a little bit of empty fame."
Hiroyuki Edogawa's eyes lit up as he said, "You've been the most controversial and hottest figure in the British wizarding world this past month. In two years, you've killed nearly 50 dark wizards and Death Eaters, inherited the magic of the legendary wizard Dumbledore, eliminated the most powerful Dark Lord in a hundred years, and are the youngest Flash Card Wizard (a rare card in wizarding cards, which only super powerful wizards can possess, and is considered a form of popular recognition)."
Bai Lin touched his nose somewhat embarrassedly and said, "It was just luck. A lot of good people died. My little thing is nothing to brag about."
Hiroyuki Edogawa's eyes shone brightly as he surveyed the numerous ships in the harbor. He said, "Excuse me, I didn't mean to boast. I'm just curious about your tactics. You seem to anticipate the enemy's moves, as if you have foreseen the future, and you mobilized all available resources at the most opportune moment. If the resurrected Dark Lord's power hadn't been so overwhelming, there wouldn't have been so many casualties. And even though the Dark Lord's power was enough to destroy the entire British magical world, you still defeated him..."
Bai Lin felt a chill run down his spine. He hadn't expected that his little secrets would still be discovered by someone with ulterior motives. This Edogawa Hiroyuki should belong to the neutral camp, just like Lulu. Such people are not bound by emotions and worldly morality in many things, and they think and view problems more rationally.
He quickly interrupted Hiroyuki Edogawa's analysis, saying, "I'll explain it to you properly when I have time. Shouldn't we find a boat first?"
"Looking for a boat? Who said I was looking for a boat? They're not going to put a flag on the bow of a boat and say we're bad guys," Hiroyuki Edogawa replied casually while carefully observing the situation.
Bai Lin almost vomited blood upon hearing this, thinking to himself: Damn, this is bad. I have a feeling that I'm not as smart as this kid. This is really damn bad!
However, he still said in a rather cheeky tone, "Then what brilliant idea does Edogawa-kun have?"
Hiroyuki Edogawa didn't hide anything. In his eyes, Bai Lin had become a temporary free super fighter. Sharing some information could effectively obtain military support, so why not?
He said, "There aren't many wizards in Hong Kong. Although the enforcement team is short-handed, they have set up magic fluctuation detection base stations in every district of the city. Even the slightest magical fluctuation will be recorded by the base stations... Oh right, you must have Apparated here. The base stations should be paying close attention to you. If you use some dark magic again, the enforcement team will be here in less than three minutes. Although I think the guys on the enforcement team are no match for you, I don't think you would want to cause trouble."
Bai Lin rolled her eyes. Luckily, she was wearing sunglasses, otherwise it would have been even more awkward.
Hiroyuki Edogawa continued, "The other party will probably be like you and won't actively cause trouble for the execution team, so they definitely won't conduct potion experiments in or around the city, nor will they bring the ship where the laboratory is located close to the dock."
Bai Lin quickly chimed in, "They'll bring the finished products ashore in small boats, and they'll also buy daily necessities, is that what you mean?"
Hiroyuki Edogawa nodded and said, "Actually, the most convenient place is GA Pier. There are many tourists and small boats there. But precisely because it is the most convenient, I think the other side will not choose that place. West Ring Pier will be very lively in the afternoon. It is not only a good place to hide and disembark, but it can also become the next potion distribution point. The other side will probably have someone stationed here, like a watchtower."
Bai Lin raised an eyebrow and said, "You also think there will be another attack?"
Hiroyuki Edogawa smiled slightly and said, "Didn't Uncle Bai only come out for a stroll because he was certain there would be further attacks with the magic potion?"
Bai Lin's face hardened as he said, "What do you mean, 'uncle'? I'm only five or six years older than you, okay?"
Hiroyuki Edogawa retorted, "How can you not be an old man? You were once a professor at Hogwarts, we're from different generations, okay? Besides, I heard you're surrounded by beauties in England, is that something only old men do?"
Bai Lin continued rolling his eyes and said, "Call me big brother, call me big brother. You're pretty smart, but your mouth is too sharp. I'm afraid I might not be able to resist slapping you to death."
Hiroyuki Edogawa, however, was not afraid at all. Although it was just a few simple words, he knew that he had gained Bai Lin's approval, and this approval became the foundation for their partnership. He went along with it and said, "Then I'll call you Brother Bai."
In truth, although Hiroyuki Edogawa was tough on the outside, he was actually quite insecure inside. In Hong Kong, he was an orphan and a member of a minority group. If the magic school investigated his many truancy and investigation violations and expelled him, he would be completely helpless. He wouldn't dare to use magic illegally outside of school. He had only managed to take on four thugs by himself because of the street survival skills he had learned from fighting in the orphanage since he was a child. If there had been one more thug, the outcome might have been completely different, and he might have been the one lying on the ground groaning in pain.
Even if the magic school takes his excellent grades into account and doesn't pursue his truancy, as an underage wizard, he is still an insignificant little person. His ability to act alone is still very limited. He can't get case information, can't enter the crime scene, and has no support, no way out, and no funds. Bai Lin's appearance has obviously become a key for him to get closer to the case.
His heart skipped a beat. The instant he heard Bai Lin's first words, he realized that Bai Lin's words about helping a "friend" investigate clues meant that Bai Lin's friend was likely someone from the enforcement team or a similar organization. Through his friend, he could obtain a lot of information and data. Moreover, Bai Lin had such a formidable record and could cast spells without a staff, making him an excellent ally in terms of martial arts. The way to gain this ally was, of course, to demonstrate his value, and his brain was Edogawa Hiroyuki's greatest asset.
"Brother Bai," Edogawa Hiroyuki said, "I've heard that powerful sorcerers can sense other people's magical power and bloodline, is that true?"
Bai Lin waved his hand and said, "I don't need you to remind me. I've already checked. There isn't a single mage in the entire dock."
Hiroyuki Edogawa seized the opportunity to flatter him, saying, "Brother Bai is indeed experienced and exceptionally capable!"
As they were talking, Hiroyuki Edogawa's stomach growled. He smiled somewhat embarrassedly at Bai Lin. It was clear that he usually ate all three meals at the magic school's cafeteria, but he hadn't eaten breakfast because of the investigation. It was almost noon now, so of course his stomach was growling. He only had a few coins in his pocket, just enough to take the train back to school or his apartment.
Judging from his expression, Bai Lin knew he didn't have much money. Although he was a little annoyed, he comforted himself, thinking, "Who told me to be the great philanthropist Bai? This little brat is somewhat useful. Treating him to a meal is nothing."
Ten minutes later, the two of them were already seated in a famous Hong Kong-style tea restaurant in Sai Wan, enjoying a table full of Hong Kong specialties. While eating heartily without any regard for appearances, Edogawa Hiroyuki pretended to be serious and said, "Actually, Brother Bai... came all the way here, so I... should do my part as... a good host..."
While eating the ginseng soup with four kinds of shrimp dumplings, Bai Lin retorted, "It's not too late to treat me now, I haven't paid yet!"
Hiroyuki Edogawa chuckled twice, disassembled a roasted pigeon, and pretended not to hear.
Bai Lin said irritably, "You haven't learned any classical Eastern virtues, but you have learned how to be fake polite."
While gnawing on a pigeon leg, Hiroyuki Edogawa said with a forced smile, "I'm just making a fool of myself... I'm just making a fool of myself..."
Bai Lin wiped his mouth with a tissue and said, "You've eaten quite a bit, so tell me your thoughts on potions."
Hiroyuki Edogawa reluctantly chewed on his bone and said, "It's not a magic potion, it's a virus."
