Hogwarts Summoning Guide

Chapter 23 The Awe of Slytherin

"This isn't fair! We've never ridden a Hippogriff before!" complained a Slytherin student.

Bai Lin waved his hand and said, "I'm afraid I only care about the feelings of students who are paying attention in class. Since some people think that the eagle horse is dangerous enough, I can show you some animals that are not so dangerous."

The students immediately became interested. Their attention had been diverted by Malfoy's experience, but Bai Lin's words brought them back to the forefront.

With a wave of his hand, Bai Lin summoned Xue Feng out of thin air onto the grass. His massive body was imposing, and his white wolf fur shimmered in the sunlight.

"Wow!" The students were startled by the giant white werewolf, or rather, by Bai Lin's summoning magic, but the three little ones, who had seen Xue Feng before, were immediately delighted.

"Through years of research on magical creatures, I have mastered a profound summoning technique. This is my summoned beast, the white werewolf Xuefeng. Its combat power is off the charts. As my assistant, it has helped me slay countless demons and monsters. Who dares to come up and try? Don't blame me for not giving you a chance!" Bai Lin said leisurely.

Harry was about to step forward when Hermione spoke first, "I'll go, I want to try, Mr. Kaelin!"

Bai Lin was taken aback, but he had always liked Hermione. She was smart, proud, and a bit of a model student, but she was always kind and loyal. He also remembered her stunning appearance at the ball in the movie. Although the Hermione in front of him was not the same person as the actress in the movie, they had similar temperaments and she was a beauty in the making if she dressed up.

Bai Lin smiled and nodded. Hermione stepped forward timidly, but she didn't know how to communicate with Xuefeng. No one had ever tamed a werewolf in a beast form, and Xuefeng looked more like a Siberian wolf or a Samoyed that had been magnified several times.

Hermione bowed nervously to Xuefeng, then reached out her delicate white hand and stroked the long hair on Xuefeng's neck.

Bai Lin waved to Xue Feng, who then lay down on the ground for Hermione to ride on. Hermione hugged Xue Feng's furry neck and laughed happily.

Bai Lin addressed the Slytherin students, saying, "Look, even a little girl can do that. That's all for today's lesson. Gryffindor did very well today, so I'll add 10 points. As for Slytherin, their performance was so-so, which is a bit disappointing. However, I think Malfoy has already paid the price, so I won't deduct any points..."

A Slytherin student whispered, "You're just an assistant professor; you have no right to give Gryffindor extra points."

Bai Lin smiled and said, "In fact, I have the right. You'd better pray that Professor Hagrid can teach you until the end of the year. Otherwise, if I were to take over as the official professor of this course, I'm afraid some students who lack reverence and love for animals wouldn't have such an easy time passing!"

As he spoke, Bai Lin flashed his Ministry of Magic badge and said, "I heard some of you want to join the Ministry of Magic after graduation. Sorry, but every department there would probably have to give me some face, hehe~"

Hermione, who had already dismounted from Xuefeng's back and rejoined the group, whispered to Harry and Ron, "Professor Kaelin is drawing Slytherin's anger to him to prevent more people from complaining about Hagrid..."

Harry looked at Bai Lin gratefully. Bai Lin casually tossed his hair, feeling quite pleased with himself for showing off. He had also gained the admiration of the entire Gryffindor student body and the awe of the Slytherin students. Why not?

It wasn't until Thursday morning that Malfoy swaggered into the underground classroom, where the Gryffindor and Slytherin students were halfway through their Potions class.

However, Malfoy's smug look with his arm wrapped in bandages did not elicit any enthusiastic concern from his Slytherin classmates. Even Pansy Parkinson, who was always full of flattery, did not offer him any obsequious compliments, which surprised him somewhat.

"Sit down, sit down." Snape was as magnanimous as ever towards the Slytherin students.

Today's lesson was on a new potion—the Shrinking Potion. As soon as Malfoy sat down, he started getting into trouble, taking advantage of Snape's favoritism to boss Ron around. Afterwards, Malfoy smugly asked the three boys, "Have you seen your friend Hagrid recently?"

"None of your business!" Ron said angrily.

"He probably won't be able to be a teacher anymore," Malfoy said, feigning sadness. "My father is very unhappy about my injury."

Harry glanced at Malfoy's arm and said, "Professor Kaelin said if you don't hand in your homework from last class, you'll fail. If I were you, I'd be worried about myself!"

Malfoy's eyes twitched, but he still retorted defiantly, "My father will protest to the school board, to the Ministry of Magic, and not only to Hagrid, but also to that lousy assistant professor from the East. I'm going to report him to Azkaban!"

Harry was unconcerned; in his mind, Whitescale was omnipotent, so why would he take Malfoy's threat to heart? "I will relay your words to Professor Kaelin. If your father drives Hagrid away, then he will be our official professor."

Malfoy's face immediately turned ashen, as if he had swallowed a fly, and he completely forgot to continue ordering Ron around.

Meanwhile, Snape was, as always, mocking, tormenting, and humiliating Neville Longbottom. If Bai Lin were there, he would surely remind him that in the original story, Snape was ultimately killed by Nagini, and it was Neville who pulled out the sword of Gryffindor to avenge him. However, at this moment, Neville was likely to be bullied terribly in Potions class, and Gryffindor would lose five points as a result.

Hermione was carrying a lot of books, moving them around until she was out of breath, which aroused the curiosity of Harry and Ron, but they were soon drawn to a new topic: the Defense Against the Dark Arts class brought by the new Professor Lupin.

If there are any courses in the entire Hogwarts curriculum that are essential survival skills, it would definitely be Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts. The tedious Charms course teaches students how to manipulate magic within their bodies through difficult spells, thus becoming a true wizard. The Defense Against the Dark Arts course teaches students how to fight in real combat—against dark wizards, against dark creatures, and against Muggles wielding strange weapons.

Third graders are still in the stage of learning to fight against all sorts of strange dark creatures.

Lupin was still wearing his old robe, but his complexion was much better. Perhaps because it was his first time teaching, he was dressed a little more smartly today, and at least there were no stains on his robe. However, the tattered box he had placed on the podium detracted from his overall appearance.

Students entered the classroom one after another, habitually opening their textbooks.

Lupin snapped his fingers, drawing everyone's attention back to him, and said, "Good afternoon. Please put your textbooks back in your bags. Today's lesson is a practical one, so you only need to wear your wands."

At that moment, Bai Lin, carrying a spellbook, walked in and greeted Lu Ping: "I'd like to audit the class and learn something. I'm sure Professor Lu Ping won't mind."

Lupin rolled his eyes. With your strength, do you really need to learn Defense Against the Dark Arts? But he still readily agreed.
