Hogwarts Summoning Guide

Chapter 22 The Hippogriff

After lunch, the children happily went outside the castle. The rain had stopped, the sun was shining brightly, and the grass under their feet was still a little wet and felt very springy.

Ron and Hermione had a bit of a disagreement over Divination class, but Hermione got nervous about taking Bai Lin's class soon (ignoring Hagrid), and kept asking Harry about Bai Lin's teaching style, whether he was strict, and so on.

Harry, on the other hand, was extremely relaxed. Hagrid and Whitebeard were his good friends and the people he trusted most, and he was eagerly anticipating what new and exciting magical knowledge Whitebeard could teach him.

However, they soon spotted the troublesome fellow, Malfoy, who appeared before them with his lackeys, and they realized that this class was to be taken with the Slytherin students.

The group descended the grassy slope and headed towards Hagrid's hut outside the Forbidden Forest.

Hagrid and Bai Lin were waiting for their classmates at the door of the cabin. Hagrid was wearing his mole fur coat, and his big hound, Fang Fang, stood at his feet. Bai Lin was dressed in a khaki hunting outfit, looking dashing, but his hands were empty and he had nothing with him. However, Harry knew that this teacher could conjure up a ferocious white werewolf at any time.

Hagrid glanced at Bai Lin, who indicated that he was just an assistant. Hagrid then cleared his throat and asked the noisy students to gather on the grass. After counting the number of students, he led them to the outside of a small enclosure at the edge of the forest. There was nothing inside the enclosure.

Bai Lin yawned, intending to find a shady spot to take a nap, but then noticed many girls staring at him. Feeling a little embarrassed, he smiled and patiently listened as Hagrid explained how to use everyone's new textbook—the monster book where you can touch the monsters—before turning to the page with the hippogriff and winged beast.

Bai Lin suddenly realized that the book was quite interesting. The descriptions inside were slightly different from his own illustrated guide, and he immediately became interested.

However, Malfoy was clearly hostile towards Hagrid, constantly making sarcastic remarks about him, while Harry kept telling him to shut up.

After the basic knowledge was introduced, Bai Lin saw Hagrid summon more than a dozen animals. Most of the students had never seen such strange animals before. They had the heads of giant eagles and the bodies of horses, but their forelegs and wings were still in the shape of eagles, somewhat like griffins. Their sharp beaks and claws were quite frightening, but they were all wearing leather collars and were tied with long iron chains. It seemed that Hagrid was not completely unaware of their "danger".

As Hagrid proudly introduced the hippogriff to everyone, he finally brought out the most spirited Buckbeakla.

"Who wants to give it a try?" Hagrid asked excitedly.

Bai Lin nodded encouragingly to Harry, who happily stepped forward. The students behind him were still marveling at the ominous signs Harry had shown during the divination class, but after talking to Bai Lin, Harry didn't take it seriously at all.

Harry cautiously met Buckbeak's gaze, then bowed. Bai Lin couldn't help but complain here, "Why make it so complicated? In the original story, when the three little ones took Buckbeak away and had Buckbeak carry Black away, didn't Black just mount up and fly away?"

However, the children followed Hagrid's explanation and watched as Harry approached step by step. First, Hagrid touched Piccolo's mouth, and then Piccolo lazily closed his eyes. After dawdling for a long time, he finally accepted Harry.

Hagrid suddenly got excited and wanted to do something exciting, so he urged Harry to ride Piccolo. Piccolo spread its wings and took flight, which once again drew gasps of surprise.

Bai Lin licked his lips. The Hippogriff seemed pretty good to ride. He was thinking of getting one after class. His custom-made fire crossbow hadn't arrived yet, and he always felt a pain in his anus when riding Hagrid's old broom.

Harry successfully returned to the ground, and Bai Lin gave him a thumbs-up in praise, which made Harry beam with joy.

Hermione clearly noticed this and stepped forward, saying, "Professor, may I try too?"

Hagrid was clearly a little surprised, but seeing Harry happily riding the hawk into the sky, many students were eager to try it themselves.

Bai Lin said, "Professor Hagrid, there are quite a few students today. How about we each take charge of one house, so that every student has a chance to get to know the beautiful and proud Hippogriffs?"

Hagrid immediately agreed, patting Bai Lin on the shoulder as if to say, "You understand me best." Bai Lin then successfully led the Gryffindor children to the other side of the paddock. Hagrid, on the other hand, stayed behind to teach the Slytherin students.

Bai Lin unchained the six harpies assigned to him one by one. Now that he had +4 Magical Creature Affinity, these harpies, which had already been tamed by Hagrid, quickly became obedient to Bai Lin.

Bai Lin quickly led the three little ones and two braver Gryffindor students onto their hawks, and together they circled above the forest.

Harry exclaimed excitedly, "We should really organize a Quidditch tournament with hippogriffs!"

Hermione was tense, clinging to the back of a reddish-brown Hippogriff. The mountain breeze ruffled her hair, but she gradually relaxed and enjoyed the joy of flying with her companions.

But the good times didn't last long. Malfoy's piercing scream came from the ground, and then Hagrid rushed over and grabbed Buckbeak, who was trying to bite Malfoy.

"Oh no!" Harry's heart sank, and Bai Lin quickly called for the hippos to land.

Upon closer inspection, Malfoy had a long, deep wound on his arm, blood splattered on the grass. Malfoy cried out, "I'm going to die! It's going to kill me! I'm going to die!"

Bai Lin rolled his eyes. A chubby student jogged over and handed Bai Lin a camera. Bai Lin asked in a low voice, "Navie, did you film everything?"

Neville nodded repeatedly, and Bai Lin gave him a thumbs up, saying, "I'll give you an O (Excellent)!" Neville beamed with joy; he had never received an O in a class before.

The students were buzzing with discussion. Hagrid comforted Malfoy while picking him up in his arms. White Scales stepped forward and opened the gates of the enclosure. Hagrid rushed up the hillside and ran towards the castle.

The Slytherin students were terrified and slowly gathered together, still loudly complaining about Hagrid.

"It's all Malfoy's fault! He provoked Piccolo himself!" Dean, who had witnessed the whole thing from the ground, couldn't help but feel indignant on Hagrid's behalf.

The Slytherin students glared angrily at the Gryffindor students. Bai Lin coughed and said, "Our class is called Magical Creatures Protection, which teaches wizards how to protect animals, not how animals should submit to wizards. I know some of you think the opposite, but since Professor Hagrid is busy, I'll assign today's homework. Write about the difference between flying on a magical creature and flying on a broomstick, hehe~"
