Chapter 207 Dawn Temple
Krum silently buried Yakov's body on the mountainside, so that the morning sun could shine on the shallow grave every day.
"Yakov was my good brother in Durmstrang... His mother died when he was very young... Two years ago, his father got drunk and fought someone, and died in the dueling arena. He couldn't afford the tuition, so he had to drop out of school and go home... He was the best batter in our college..." Krum said sadly, looking at Yakov's grave.
Bai Lin patted him on the shoulder. Yakov's experience was far beyond his expectations. If Krum was filled with grief and indignation, then Bai Lin was filled with endless self-blame. Perhaps if he had been more resolute, he could have persuaded him to go back.
Krum silently picked up Yakov's flying broom and said to Bai Lin, "Professor Kelling, let's go. I don't care what your purpose is in coming to the Far East this time; this is now a personal feud between me and them!"
Bai Lin wanted to persuade this straightforward and brave young man to stop participating, but looking at his determined eyes, he could only say, "You've seen it yourself. The enemy's weapons are extremely dangerous to wizards. Continuing to participate is far too risky. Karkaroff only sent you with me to monitor me, not to charge into battle. You should think this through!"
Krum, however, said, "If this weapon were to spread, it would be a catastrophe for the stability of wizarding society. Dark magic would be rendered useless. I cannot stand by and watch that day come... I was there during the Quidditch World Cup attack. I only regret that my teammates and coach held me back and prevented me from killing them all!"
Bai Lin sighed and said, "If we continue forward, focus on reconnaissance and avoid impulsive actions. They must have a very important reason for coming here; I wouldn't be surprised if they even awakened an ancient demon god!"
After giving a few instructions, Bai Lin didn't intend to delay. He mounted his flying broom and flew along the ridge towards the mountain range.
The Chersky Range stretches from southeast to northwest. Although it is not as majestic as the Himalayas, it is the highest mountain range on the vast snowfields of Siberia.
It was impossible for the three of them to search the entire mountain range. Bai Lin could only deduce their possible routes into the mountain based on Andiyebu's ambush points.
The three of them had been traveling for over twenty hours without sleep since leaving Hogwarts and were already quite exhausted. However, given the current situation, Bai Lin didn't know what Barnard and Caesar were up to, but he had a feeling that if they were a step too late, they might cause some huge incident that could threaten the entire wizarding world in Europe and even the world.
Seeing Catherine's little face red from the cold, Bai Lin felt a pang of heartache, but there was nothing he could do. It proved that having more hands and eyes was always helpful. He should have brought Kiki and Zobi along (although it seemed like Krum might not have enough Floo Powder...).
"There!" Catherine's voice was a little hoarse as she pointed to a hollow in the mountainside and called out.
Bai Lin and Krum descended and looked around. The scenery there was indeed unusual. Although it was covered by a lot of snow, it formed a very symmetrical scene with obvious signs of human intervention.
"Watch out for ambushes!" Bai Lin shouted in a low voice. He pointed to both sides with his arms, and Catherine and Krum understood. The three of them split into three groups and rushed towards the target location from three directions.
Despite Bai Lin's repeated emphasis on caution and safety, Krum still charged forward at breakneck speed. Just before he was about to "crash" into the ground, he quickly retracted his flying broom, his body transforming into a shark in mid-air as he plunged headfirst into the snow.
"This actually works?" Bai Lin witnessed Krum's amazing feat firsthand and couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat. He praised the black magic's transformation technique. Krum, this shark, could obviously swim freely as long as there were water elements around him. It didn't necessarily need to be liquid seawater, which is what real sharks need (sharks are marine creatures and can only survive in freshwater for an hour, while Krum's ability to swim freely in the Black Lake proves this point).
Bai Lin was wearing a light-colored fur cloak, which made him difficult to see in the wind and snow. His fire crossbow bolts were incredibly fast, and even if there were soldiers of the Breaker of Law lying in ambush, it would be difficult to stop him from getting closer. Sure enough, Bai Lin could clearly see that there was a square hole in the hollow of the mountain, which seemed to be the entrance to the underground palace. Around the hole, more than a dozen people were lying on the snow, their bodies stiff from the cold.
However, the guards finally noticed Bai Lin's approach. A loud shout in unintelligible Arabic rang out, and several soldiers raised their guns and fired at Bai Lin.
"Obstacles everywhere!" Bai Lin suddenly slowed down and cast an Obstacle Spell on the snow in front of him, instantly raising several two-meter-high snow walls. He then fired an Ice Arrow, freezing one of the snow walls in front of him into an ice wall.
Countless bullets struck the ice wall. If they were ordinary bullets, the half-meter-thick ice wall would have been enough to hold them off for a long time. However, the spellbreakers' ammunition was clearly specially made, and the ice wall shattered after only a few seconds. Yet, another ice wall rose up and continued to serve as cover for Bai Lin. Catherine did the same on the other side, and the two of them instantly drew the fire of all the spellbreaker soldiers.

Krum successfully crawled to the cave entrance and pounced out. A soldier was horrified to see a great white shark leap out of the snow. He was so frightened that he forgot to fire his gun and was bitten on the neck by Krum, dying on the spot.
Krum killed one man, landed in the snow, and disappeared again. A group of soldiers were terrified and turned their guns, firing wildly into the snow.
As soon as Bai Lin saw the soldiers turn their guns around, he darted over like lightning, raised his hand and unleashed a Shattering Bone Curse. The rocks in front of the spellbreaker soldiers exploded violently, far more powerful than Krum's magic, comparable to C4 explosives.
The rocks shattered into pieces, and the surrounding soldiers screamed in pain as the stones struck them. Krum unexpectedly emerged again and bit off a soldier's leg.
Bai Lin unleashed a frost arrow, piercing a soldier through the heart. This proved that the Spellbreakers couldn't equip all their soldiers with rune armor; their magical defenses were indeed limited. These soldiers were actually armed with ordinary guns, but using rune ammunition, which still possessed considerable penetrating power through magical shields.
A soldier sat up from the pile of stones and raised his gun to shoot Bai Lin, but a beam of red magical energy shot out and knocked him unconscious. It was Catherine who had followed him.
In just a few minutes, none of the soldiers at the cave entrance were left standing. Bai Lin threw all their guns into the system space, thinking that maybe if the old craftsman melted them down, he could unlock a few more secret technologies!
Looking at the dark entrance, Bai Lin gestured for Krum and Catherine to catch their breath, then took the lead and walked down the steps leading underground into the cave.
Carefully descending the steps, Bai Lin found himself completely unable to see the path after less than twenty steps. If he were to rashly use his fluorescent flash, he would become an easy target. If there were two or three spellbreaker soldiers lurking with secret weapons like the 98K, he would be in grave danger.
However, Bai Lin suddenly realized what was happening. He lowered his body, pointed his finger into the darkness ahead, and said, "Palmtops of the Gods!"
A golden owl flew from his fingertips. Bai Lin hadn't used his full strength; instead of summoning a giant Calling the Eagle, he had created a plump, football-sized golden owl. The golden light instantly illuminated the passageway ahead. One wonders what Lupin or Harry would think if they knew he'd used the Patronus Charm for lighting.
Sure enough, as the little owl flew over, it heard two gunshots below. The bullets pierced through the owl's adorable body but did not harm it. Unlike many physical magic spells, the Guardian Charm is entirely a spiritual spell, an embodiment of human beliefs, hopes, joy, and other emotions. The spell-breaking properties of the rune bullets could not harm it, and conversely, the Guardian Charm could not harm a physical entity.
"Black mist spreads!" Bai Lin summoned the black mist, and the little owl rushed down first. The ambushing gunmen could only see the little owl radiating golden light, but could not see Bai Lin's figure at all.
Two Shadow Arrows easily dealt with the gunman lying in ambush in the corner of the passage. After walking down nearly two hundred meters, the little owl flew to a stone gate and disappeared into thin air. The Patronus Charm usually only lasts for a few minutes at most.
Having confirmed there were no ambushes, Bai Lin snapped his fingers behind him, instantly illuminating a faint glow. Catherine and Krum quickly stepped down.
"There's some noise inside, let's listen!" Bai Lin said softly, pointing to the door.
Krum pointed his wand at his ear, and suddenly his ear grew as big as Pigsy's, making him look quite comical. He pressed his ear against the door and said after a while, "It sounds like someone is singing hymns! Like a Christian service, at least twenty or thirty people."
Catherine, however, said, "Look, there are patterns on the stone gate!"
Bai Lin shone the firefly light onto the stone gate, and sure enough, there were faint carvings on it, dividing the two gates into a nine-square grid, with each square containing a pattern.
"It's a faction map!" Bai Lin exclaimed, but Catherine and Krum looked completely bewildered, not understanding what Bai Lin was talking about at all.
Bai Lin pointed to the patterns and said, "These are nine camps divided by the gods according to the behavioral norms of intelligent beings. The three on the left are order, the three on the right are chaos, and the one in the middle is neutral. I'll explain them to you when I have time... This pattern seems to explain the origin of this place..."
He pointed to the pattern in the upper left corner, which was larger than the others and very abstract, but it looked like the sun had just risen.
"This place should belong to the Order of Good alignment. The sun represents the dawn of the world. This is an ancient site built by the Crusaders!" Bai Lin said. His tone was somewhat excited because he had talked to Lulu about the Soul Mentors. Lulu told him that the Seekers family had only found four Soul Orbs in total: Chaotic Good (Night Orb), Order Neutral (Judgment Orb), Absolute Neutral (Business Spirit Orb) controlled by the family elders in North America, and Chaotic Neutral (Wild Orb) controlled by the family elders in Australia. The whereabouts of the other orbs are still unknown.
Looking at the patterns on the stone gate, this is most likely the burial site of the Dawn Orb of the Order and Good alignments. Who would have thought that such an ancient tomb existed in the snow-capped mountains of the frigid Siberian lands?
Bai Lin gestured for the two to move aside, then secretly exerted force on his hand, pushing the stone door open a crack.
Inside the stone gate, a blaze of fire illuminated the area as bright as day, and a voice, like that of chanting poetry, emanated from within.
Bai Lin peered through the crack in the door and saw a huge underground space, like a temple. Huge statues stood beside the stone steps, and in the center was a platform made of black basalt. There were several steps leading up to a throne.
At this moment, dozens of people were kneeling densely packed on the central platform of the hall. They wore rather primitive animal skin robes and had their hair styled in the manner of some ethnic minority. They were repeating a few incantations over and over, as if in a trance, the meaning of which was unknown. On either side, six spellbreaker soldiers in metal armor held submachine guns, pointing them at the people in the center. And on the throne on the high platform sat a familiar figure, Barnard, who looked like a bear.
Another familiar figure stood below the platform. Even in this bitterly cold place, he was still clad in gleaming silver armor—it was Caesar, who resembled a robotic policeman. He was carrying a small figure in his arms, who appeared to be a child.
Normally, Caesar would have had no way to reach the depths of this snowy mountain with so many people without modern transportation, but it seems that Barnard is actually in cahoots with Caesar, which makes all the difference. It's ironic, though, that the Spellbreaker who wants revenge on all dark wizards has actually cooperated with them and kidnapped dozens of Muggles.
"Bang!" A gunshot rang out, the huge echo reverberating through the hall. Caesar had shot a kneeling Aboriginal man in the head, the body falling limply to the ground, the little boy in his arms letting out a terrified scream.
"I don't have that much time to play house with you, say it! Otherwise I'll kill one every ten seconds!" Caesar said coldly, expressionless.
The soundproofing of the stone door was so good that Caesar and Barnard seemed quite at ease with the guards outside, completely unaware that their nemesis had already reached the door.
The little boy in Caesar's arms screamed, "This is the sacred temple of the God of Dawn! You demon..."
Without hesitation, Caesar blew another native's head off, splattering blood all over those around him. However, they were all under some kind of magical control and were completely unaware of what was happening.
The little boy screamed again, but this time his fear was even more intense. When Caesar killed the third person, the little boy finally broke down, crying out in anguish, "I'll talk! I'll talk! Stop killing people!..."
"That's a good boy!" Caesar gently put the little boy down on the ground and straightened his tattered fur coat.
"Find the Dawn Orb, and I'll spare your life and that of your people!" Barnard said coldly from his throne. He pulled out a dark box from his robes, which Bai Lin could recognize from a distance as the box containing the Night Orb.
The little boy was anxious, angry, and terrified. He cried intermittently for a while, and when he saw Caesar raise the long-barreled revolver in his hand again, he quickly sobbed, "Give...give me two minutes, I'll...open the treasure vault of the Temple of Dawn."
