Chapter 142: The Goblet of Fire storyline begins

As Lulu said, throughout July and August, the Church of Hastur and the Spellbreakers seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth, and never came out to cause trouble again.

In the opening battle, the Spellbreakers killed nearly twenty wizards but also lost sixteen of their own, a mutually destructive outcome. Their most relied-upon advantage was virtually wiped out by Lulu's mercenary ambush. And this was before the use of war machines like helicopters; otherwise, it would likely have been a one-sided massacre.

After the war, the mercenaries had their memories erased by the wizard. They would only wake up when they boarded the train back to London, with a stack of pounds Lulu had paid for them in their pockets.

The matches following the opening ceremony were met with a cold reception, with only a few dozen true fans watching from the 100,000-seat stands. However, by late August, during the semi-finals and finals, people gradually forgot about the tragedy of the opening ceremony, the damaged stands were repaired and looked brand new, and the stands were filled with spectators again, watching the match between the world's strongest team, Ireland, and Bulgaria.

The final was intense and thrilling, but Harry and his friends weren't there to watch. They experienced the opening ceremony battle and gradually realized that Voldemort wasn't the only bad guy in the world; there were many dangerous forces threatening the lives of good wizards.

Throughout the summer, Harry, Hermione, and Ron spent their time at 12 Grimmauld Place, where Black and Lupin tutored them in various Defense Against the Dark Arts and combat techniques.

Bai Lin would occasionally visit the three little ones at the Black family home, bringing them some information about the Muggle world. After the opening ceremony battle, both Black and Lupin realized that by the time this generation of children grew up, the wizarding world might not have changed much, but the Muggle world had already taken off with its technological advancements. If they were still immersed in the past glory of wizarding society, one day, the wizards who had always been "high and mighty" might become the bottom of the entire Earth's civilization.

Bai Lin also had his own "students." When he was discharged from the hospital, the twins and Eddie approached him, wanting to formally become his students according to Eastern etiquette. Only then did Bai Lin realize that Eddie had actually been present at the arena battle and the opening ceremony battle, but he hadn't noticed him (this might also be related to Eddie's unremarkable appearance...). All three of them were "amazed" by Bai Lin's fighting prowess and wanted to become a true warrior.

In the suburbs of London, Bai Lin rented a small estate full of Riesling grapes (a common British grape variety) and secretly taught his students some "practical" black magic and how to use Muggle weapons.

Normally, such things wouldn't be permitted by the Ministry of Magic, but on the opening day, Fudge was rescued by Whitescale and Black, and knowing full well what was going on, he turned a blind eye to their actions. Moreover, the Ministry of Magic had been incredibly busy for the past two months, cooperating with the Muggle Prime Minister to capture fugitives while simultaneously reassuring wizards and their Muggle families that the Ministry could still guarantee public safety.

However, because the Spellbreakers were so destructive, Fudge simply assumed that the Death Eaters who had caused dozens of Muggle casualties did not exist, and the Dark Mark that had lit up the sky for most of the night was forcibly explained by the Ministry of Magic as a deception by the Spellbreakers.

This is consistent with Fudge's style—keeping his ministerial position is paramount, and he will never acknowledge any signs of Voldemort's return. Otherwise, someone like Dumbledore, a "leader in the resistance against dark wizards," might overthrow him and take his place.

With the Quidditch World Cup final over, Harry's summer vacation after his third year of high school came to an end.

Inside Number 12 Grimmauld Place, Black cleared out the largest dining room for the children to practice spells. With only a few days left before school started, Harry was making the most of his last moments to practice the Disarming Charm and the Stunning Charm, sparring with Hermione in the dining room, while Black and Lupin stood on either side as emergency protection.

Ron sat on a bench near the corridor, engrossed in the latest edition of the Daily Prophet, muttering, "My goodness, at the last moment, Viktor Krum caught the thief first, but Bulgaria still lost the final by 10 points! This was absolutely the battle of the century, so dramatic! I think Firebolt helped Ireland a lot..."

"Ron! You've already missed two rounds of practice. Please don't disturb them. They still can't control the power of the Stunning Spell, and they could easily get injured!" Blake said in a fatherly tone.

"It's alright, Sirius. Real battles always begin amidst chaos and unexpected events..." Harry stared intently at Hermione's wand, then suddenly dodged, like a soccer player feinting past an opponent, making it difficult for Hermione to lock onto him, before unleashing a "Expelliarmus!" at her.

Hermione, for some reason, lost her focus and was struck by the red energy from Harry's wand. The wand flew out of her hand, but Lupin quickly caught her from behind to prevent her from falling flat on her face.

"Ha! Harry won again! He's 41 now, and the brilliant Hermione has been defeated!" Ron jumped off the bench, laughing heartlessly. If Bai Lin were there, he would definitely cover his eyes and sigh, "You'll end up alone..."

As expected, Hermione stood up, her face quite grim. She glared at Ron and said, "Ron, if you've got the guts, come and fight me!"

"Haha, I won't, I won't!" Ron stuck out his tongue and ran up the stairs. Hermione chased after him angrily, and Harry finally smiled and put his wand away.

Black patted Harry on the shoulder and said, "Don't push yourself too hard. The Disarming Charm is an extremely difficult spell to master, and you've done very well!"

Lupin stepped forward and said, "That's right, you're almost ahead of the two of us. Go relax a bit; we're going to Diagon Alley to buy your new textbooks tomorrow!"

Harry nodded and chased after the two playful friends upstairs. Ron would always tease the constantly grumbling house-elves or the ghouls (the Black family's symbiotic monsters) hiding upstairs, and then use them to block Hermione's path.

Seeing that the three seemed to have reverted to being ordinary children, Blake said softly with some emotion, "I really don't want them to grow up so quickly and have to risk their lives against those demons and monsters... I'll do anything as long as I can protect him..."

Lupin patted Black's arm and said, "It'll be alright. Dumbledore is looking for the remaining Horcruxes... but it's never a bad thing to learn more combat skills before the final battle..."

Black gave Lupin a deep look, seemingly agreeing with his assessment, then changed the subject: "Will he still be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts next semester?"

Lupin shook his head and said, "It's Moody. He's been restless since he retired. He's been acting crazy all day, seeing everyone as a Death Eater. Dumbledore is going to find him something to do."

"That old madman, huh... By the way, last time I saw you and that female Auror exchanging glances..." Blake nudged Lupin with his elbow with ill intent, the two of them seemingly transported back to their student days...
