Chapter 89 The Killer
As for Bai Yu, his sword never stopped. He had no psychological burden when wielding his sword against these guys. He just felt that if Conqueror's Haki could kill these people directly, he didn't even plan to do it himself.
The whole process took no more than the time it takes to drink a cup of tea.
When the last pirate was gently pushed aside by Unohana and fell at the mayor's feet, the snowfield was already littered with people lying haphazardly; not a single one was still standing, or rather, they had all passed away.
The mayor's body went limp, the long knife in his hand clattered to the ground, and he stared blankly at the four people on the roof who looked like gods, his lips trembling as he couldn't utter a word.
Bai Yu glanced down at him, made no further move, and simply said, "Get lost."
The voice seemed to possess a magical power. The mayor, as if grasping at a lifeline, scrambled to his feet and staggered into the depths of the night, not even caring about his unconscious companions.
Rangiku raised an eyebrow: "You're just letting him go like that?"
No, he is already dead.
Bai Yu turned and leaped off the roof, landing silently in the snow.
The snow continued to fall, and the area around the cabin quickly returned to calm, as if the battle had never happened.
Unohana returned to the room and saw that Kanna was still fast asleep, so she gently drew the curtains.
Rangiku poured herself a glass of warm wine and leaned against the fireplace to warm herself. As for Shiraha and Robin, they sat at the table, watching the snow falling outside the window and chatting idly.
Robin's current strength is really impressive; the combination of the Flower Flower Fruit and Armament Haki is indeed powerful.
As dawn broke, the snow finally stopped.
Sunlight pierced through the clouds, shining brightly on the snow-covered streets.
Bai Yu and his group packed their bags and prepared to leave Whiskey Peak and continue their voyage into the depths of the Grand Line.
On both sides of the street stood residents dressed in neat clothes, their faces bearing even more exaggerated and enthusiastic smiles than the mayor from yesterday. They carried all sorts of things in their hands: baskets full of fruit, beautifully sewn cloaks, and even a few carrying large quantities of alcohol.
Good morning, heroes!
An elderly man with gray hair stepped out from the crowd. He was dressed in a respectable formal suit, and the wrinkles on his face were piled up into folds. His smile was so flattering that it was almost blinding.
"Did you sleep well last night? We are the natives of Whiskey Peak. We heard that some foolish pirates came to harass us last night, but thankfully, all of you heroes stepped in and preserved the peace of our town!"
Bai Yu raised an eyebrow. He could clearly see the fear deep in the old man's eyes, as well as the tense shoulders and forced smiles of the people around him.
"I see."
Bai Yu understood, and a playful smile appeared on his lips.
"They're afraid of our retaliation, so they've come to give us a warm welcome, but they really just want us to leave as soon as possible."
The old man warmly invited them in: "Heroes, please come in! We have prepared a sumptuous breakfast, as well as supplies for your journey—all the best things in our town!"
Without further ado, he led them to the most luxurious-looking room in the adjacent building.
"Heroes, try this! It's a local specialty, grilled meat made with big, deep-sea fish—the meat is incredibly tender!"
The old man picked up his knife and fork and diligently cut a piece of roast meat for Bai Yu, but his hands were trembling, and he missed the meat several times with the fork.
However, these people clearly had no experience in entertaining guests. They made a living by plundering. In order to send them away, they tried to put on a warm and hospitable act, but their act was full of flaws. Compared to the previous group, these guys seemed to be novices who had just entered this business.
He deliberately picked up a piece of reasonably well-grilled roast meat, chewed it slowly, and asked, "Sir, is your town always this hospitable to travelers?"
The old man's eyes flashed, and he quickly nodded: "Of course, our Whiskey Peak is a famous friendly town on the Grand Line. We will warmly welcome any traveler who passes through."
"Oh?" Bai Yu put down his knife and fork, looking at him with a half-smile.
"But I heard that none of the travelers who passed through here before managed to leave alive? And I recognized all those guys from yesterday."
The old man's face turned deathly pale instantly, and he swayed, almost falling off the chair.
The people around were so frightened that they dared not breathe, and the already tense atmosphere became even more frozen.
After a long while, seeing that Bai Yu and the others remained silent, the old man forced a smile: "Hero, you're joking. Those are just rumors. Our town has always been known for its honest and simple people; how could we possibly do such a thing?"
Robin suddenly spoke up, pointing to a painting hanging on the wall: "This painting is quite unique. Who is it?"
Following her gaze, everyone saw a nautical chart hanging on the wall, with several shipping routes marked on it and some crossed-out ship markings.
The old man's eyes darted around in panic as he hurriedly explained, "This...this was left to me by my grandfather. It's just an ordinary old map, nothing special..."
"Yeah?"
Robin stepped forward: "But why do I feel that these crossed-out marks look like the routes of past ships?"
The old man's face had completely lost its color, and his lips trembled, unable to utter a word.
Those around them were so frightened that they all lowered their heads, not daring to meet Bai Yu's gaze.
Looking at their expressions, Bai Yu felt that it was about time.
He stood up, dusted himself off, and said, "Alright, we should get going now. Thank you for your hospitality. We'll accept these supplies."
The old man, feeling as if he had been granted a pardon, hurriedly nodded and bowed, saying, "Hero, please take care and have a safe journey! Welcome to visit again next time!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, he wanted to slap himself. Who would dare let these killing gods come again!
Bai Yu and the others left the wooden house with supplies.
The residents on both sides of the street maintained their warm smiles until they watched the people board the boats, set sail, and gradually disappear on the horizon. Only then did they breathe a sigh of relief, their smiles instantly fading as they collapsed to the ground, panting heavily.
On the boat, Rangiku munched on a truly sweet piece of fruit and laughed, saying, "Those people were so funny. They were almost crying from fright, but they still tried to act all enthusiastic."
"At least they didn't try to attack us again, which shows they have some self-awareness. Keeping them around will give those naive guys a little experience."
"Well, when it comes down to it, who would want to leave their homeland and go to sea if they're not powerful or evil pirates?"
After hearing Rangiku's words, Robin said calmly, "Those people on Whiskey Peak are just a bunch of cowards who are afraid of danger. They dare not continue sailing, nor are they willing to give up their wealth. They can only hide here and eke out a living. They are just losers."
Bai Yu leaned against the ship's railing, gazing at the distant horizon, a faint smile playing on his lips: "Such surprises are nice once in a while. I hope the rest of the voyage will bring some even more interesting fellows."
The ship cut through the calm sea and sailed deeper into the Grand Line, with the Whiskey Mountain behind them gradually disappearing from Bai Yu and the others' sight.
