Alaska Gold Rush Diary

Chapter 31 Discovery of Gold Tracks

After downing a bottle of ice-cold beer, the two felt refreshed and their fatigue from the day had mostly disappeared.

Although the sun had set, it would still be more than two hours before it got dark. Zhou Xin had Edward put on his snake-proof boots and go around collecting dry branches for firewood, while he began preparing dinner.

Edward knew nothing about cooking, so the task of cooking fell to Zhou Xin.

The battery we bought this time can store 20 kWh of electricity, and when it runs out, it can be replenished with a generator, so the two of us can almost have complete freedom in terms of electricity.

Therefore, Zhou Xin prepared kitchen appliances such as an induction cooker, rice cooker, and microwave oven, which would make cooking much more convenient.

As for still having Edward gather firewood, it was out of precaution.

If the induction cooker breaks down, at least you can still eat hot food.

Edward didn't really care. As an American who had never eaten anything good since childhood, he could be happy with just two slices of bread and a glass of milk.

But Zhou Xin comes from the great foodie empire, and even in the harsh wilderness, his pursuit of delicious food will not diminish in the slightest.

In the minds of Chinese people, food cooked over an open flame is incomparable to that cooked by an induction cooker.

But after a long and tiring day, the two of them only ate a compressed biscuit for lunch. Zhou Xin was already starving, so he didn't plan to cook anything today.

Plug in the induction cooker, take out the frying pan, blanch two asparagus spears and set aside, then heat oil in the pan.

Take a marinated steak from the freezer and put it into the pot. As it sizzles, the aroma immediately fills the air.

Logan's mouth watered, and he circled around Zhou Xin.

However, Zhou Xin had already prepared food for it. After circling around twice, it went to eat from its own bowl.

Zhou Xin kept flipping the steak, frying it until it was medium-rare.

Remove from the heat, place on a plate, serve with asparagus, and drizzle with black pepper sauce. Your steak dinner is ready.

It must be said that as long as you don't overly pursue the taste, ordinary Western food is quite easy to make.

He then did the same thing and made one for himself.

"Oh my god, it smells so good! Xin, you're amazing!"

Edward stared wide-eyed at the steak on his plate, his face filled with disbelief.

"Poor guy, all he got was a steak," Zhou Xin thought to himself.

Despite living in the United States for many years, Zhou Xin still isn't a big fan of steak.

In his opinion, any dish of braised beef brisket with potatoes or stir-fried beef is much tastier than steak.

"Oh my god, this is so delicious!"

Edward, his mouth full of beef, mumbled praises indistinctly, a look of ecstasy on his face.

It's clear he genuinely thought it was delicious.

He had eaten steak before, of course, but in this wilderness, after a long and tiring day, eating a bite of black pepper steak made it taste several times better.

Both of them were starving, and they devoured the food in no time.

The task of washing the dishes naturally fell to Edward.

Night gradually fell, and the surroundings became quiet.

The two of them each filled a basin with water and used towels to wipe the sweat and grime off their bodies from the day.

"Alright, let's get some rest today. We'll start working tomorrow!" Zhou Xin felt exhausted after spending so much energy setting up the camp today.

"Actually, I can't sleep at all right now, my mind is full of gold." Edward's face was full of excitement.

"You're really obsessed with money," Zhou Xin said in Chinese.

"What?" Edward looked completely bewildered.

Zhou Xin didn't explain, but laughed and went into the tent.

……

Zhou Xin slept soundly through the night, but was awakened by Edward's voice just as dawn broke.

"Get up, Xin! Let's get started!"

Zhou Xin rubbed his eyes, got dressed, and crawled out of the tent.

Edward looked at him expectantly, with two detectors that had already been unpacked and installed in front of him.

It seems he couldn't sleep early on, so he got up and finished installing and debugging the detector.

"You're really proactive!"

Zhou Xin quickly finished washing up, and the two of them ate some bread, then set off with their water bottles and walkie-talkies.

Zhou Xin only let Edward take the detector; he himself only carried a backpack containing some small red flags.

This puzzled Edward greatly.

"Why don't you use a detector? Most of the gold here is buried in the ground; it's very difficult to find it on the surface."

Zhou Xin naturally had his own plans. In the first few days after arriving, the most important thing was not to start the gold mining work, but to find the location of the gold.

He has a "smell of gold," and can locate gold simply by smelling it as he wanders through the wilderness.

Gold in the soil won't disappear on its own.

So he planned to travel light first, find the spots where gold was buried, and mark them with eye-catching little flags.

Once a sufficiently large area has been explored and enough points have been marked, then you can take your equipment and start mining for gold.

While he was exploring, Edward could go to the locations he had marked to dig for gold.

Edward would surely wonder how he could find gold so accurately, and Zhou Xin would naturally not tell him the secret of the "smell of gold".

He had already come up with a story, which might not be able to fool him, but he naturally had no evidence to refute it.

Zhou Xin ignored Edward's question and smiled slightly, "You take the instruments and start exploring from here. I'll go over there and observe the surrounding area."

Edward nodded, lowered his head, and placed the instrument's probe on the ground to begin the search.

Zhou Xin walked through the wilderness with his backpack on his back, like a backpacker on a trip.

He soon made a discovery.

When he reached a spot not far south of the camp, he suddenly smelled that familiar, sweet aroma.

The smell of gold!

At this moment, he and Edward were not too far apart, so he called him over.

"Let's dig around here," Zhou Xin said, pointing to the source of the smell.

Edward, looking puzzled, brought the detector closer.

Waaaaah—

As soon as you get close, the machine emits a bright beeping sound.

"It really exists!"

Edward's expression of confusion was replaced by surprise and excitement.

He immediately took out a pickaxe and shovel, and started digging while using a detector to probe.

During this time, he also studied gold mining methods and techniques online, so although he was not proficient, he understood the basic steps.

After digging for about ten minutes, he used a shovel to scoop up the excavated soil and brought it close to the detector.

If the detector doesn't respond, just dump the soil and shovel it again.

It wasn't until after more than ten attempts that the detector finally started whirring as the shovel approached it.

This proves that the object is in the shovel!

He carefully tossed the soil from the shovel into his hand, little by little, while constantly bringing the shovel closer to the detector.

The detector kept whirring, and soon they spotted the target.
