Ming Dynasty: What's wrong with being a leisurely crown prince?

Upon becoming the Crown Prince Zhu Gaochi of the Ming Dynasty, he faced immense pressure. Above him was the disapproving Emperor Yongle (Zhu Di), and below him were the ambitious and scheming Zhu Gaoxu and the resilient Zhu Gaosui. Zhu Gaochi felt overwhelmed. Instead of pushing himself further, he thought, why not relax and enjoy the present? Life is too short to endure a lifetime of hardship; one should enjoy at least half of it. But gradually, as Zhu Gaochi changed, everything began to shift.
