Struggling to survive at Hogwarts

Chapter 3 Reasons for Truth and Falsehood

As soon as she entered the house, Thea sat down on the only chair in the room.

Jennifer followed behind her, and when she saw Thea's decisive action, she pursed her lips but said nothing.

But Thea wouldn't let her go, and demanded, "Tell me, why are you always following me?"

"...Thea, what are you saying? We're good friends, of course we should stay together!"

Thea didn't say anything, but raised her head and carefully looked at the blonde girl in front of her. To be honest, the girl was a typical foreign beauty with a head of blonde hair that flowed smoothly down her back. She was of medium build, with rosy skin and fair hands. Her clothes were not new, but they were clean. Without a doubt, if it weren't for the clothes she was wearing, no one would believe that she came from the slums.

Jennifer felt uncomfortable under her gaze, her hands unconsciously reaching into her pockets, and her cheeks gradually flushed.

Seeing that the time was ripe, Thea pressed on and asked all the questions: "They are all afraid of me, why aren't you afraid?"

Why do you keep following me around?

Jennifer could tell that Thea was serious, but instead of answering Thea's question immediately, she went straight to her bed, sprawled out on it like she had no bones, and spoke in a strange tone:

"Don't you remember? I thought you hit Andrew just now because he told everyone your secrets?"

"secret?"

Seeing that Thea was still confused, Jennifer simply told her everything: "It was last week when you were talking to the snake that Andrew saw you. He was terrified and kept promising that he would never tell anyone. Unexpectedly, you developed a fever the next day."

“I warned you before, men’s words are the least trustworthy, even if he’s only 9 years old!!!” Jennifer’s tone became strong, with a hint of disappointment.

Jennifer lay in bed, and seeing that Thea was still in a daze, she became even angrier, muttering "stupid Thea" and other such words over and over again.

"So, my fever wasn't an accident?"

Upon hearing this, Jennifer immediately shut her mouth, looking left and right but refusing to look at Thea. Thea watched the child perform the face-changing act with great interest.

Seeing that she couldn't get away with it, Jennifer stammered, "...I don't know how he opened the window...I was sleeping soundly...If Windsor hadn't taken you away, I wouldn't have known you had a fever..."

After Jennifer finished speaking, seeing that Thea was still unmoved, she hurriedly added, "I only found out the next day that on the night you had a fever, Andrew didn't sleep and was running around everywhere. I only became suspicious of him when the doorman caught him."

Thea has now basically figured out what happened, but a few pieces of the puzzle are still missing.

Seeing that she couldn't get anything out of Jennifer, Thea simply ignored her, opened the original owner's cabinet with practiced ease, took out a few candies, put them in her pocket, and walked out.

Jennifer was initially tempted by the candies, thinking Thea was going to give them to her, but Thea simply left.

Jennifer was stunned, and in her anger, she grabbed the soft pillow from the bed and started hitting it hard, pretending it was someone else.

Thea was unaware that the innocent pillow was bearing the brunt of Jennifer's wrath; she was on her way to the medical room, processing the information she had just received as she walked.

Given that Andrew was caught by the doorman for not sleeping in the middle of the night, and that he developed a fever in the middle of the night, it can be concluded that Andrew had the opportunity to commit the crime.

His bed was right below the window. If he opened it even a crack, the autumn wind would blow straight into Thea's body through the gap. The window wasn't heavy; even he could open it, let alone 9-year-old Andrew. Therefore, Andrew had the ability to commit the crime.

But something still didn't seem right. Why would Andrew open his room window?

According to Jennifer, Andrew found out about her secret of being able to talk to snakes, so he took the initiative to teach her a lesson. However, the girl was weak and a fever caused her body to be replaced.

But can a normal little child talk to a snake?

Although this ability sounds familiar, aren't fairy tales all fake? I don't know if others believe it, but Thea certainly doesn't, so she decided to ask the other party involved in the incident, Andrew, herself.

Thea walked along, lost in thought, almost shuffling towards the medical room. Before she even got close, a familiar, piercing voice came through the wall: "...I'm not lying, Thea is the little monster! I saw it with my own eyes! She was talking to a snake in the corner!!!"

Time seemed to stand still for a few seconds. By the time Thea realized what was happening, she had already reached the door of the medical room, separated from the people inside by only a wall.

Windsor was furious with Andrew. This naughty boy! He was the one who had been bullying the cute little Thea all along. It was only this time that Thea fought back. Andrew had provoked Thea first and had been beaten up, yet he still hadn't learned his lesson and insisted on framing others.

Windsor's voice rose even higher with anger: "Andrew! I know everything that happened! This was your fault to begin with, so why won't you admit it?"

Thea could tell that Windsor's tone had softened, but Andrew didn't realize that the poor boy was consumed by his immense anger and resentment, making his voice even more shrill: "I didn't! I didn't lie! She's a monster! She deserves to be hanged!!!"

Windsor was even more disappointed when she saw that Andrew was still unrepentant. Talking to snakes? Ha! Andrew's lies were getting more and more outrageous.

Little Thea came here when she was so young, and she has always been a quiet and well-behaved little girl. How could she possibly have such evil abilities?

On the contrary, this Andrew is a habitual liar who refuses to admit his mistakes. The contrast between the two is stark. Would I choose to believe someone with such a bad track record?

After calming herself down, Windsor said, "Andrew, you have really disappointed me. To prevent the injury on your face from worsening, you will need to stay in the medical room for the next few days."
