Harry Potter: This senior is pretty strong
Chapter 56 Familiarity and Change
The familiar mountains, the familiar water, the familiar classrooms, campus, dormitories, auditorium, and Professor Snape's long legs.
“If you don’t wake up from your lazy and wasteful holiday, I don’t mind throwing you into the Black Lake to wake you up.”
Listen to that cold voice, listen to that sarcastic tone!
It really gives you an instant boost of energy.
“Mr. Qin, you seem to be in a very good mood, so you can demonstrate the grinding of the dried glandular sac of the weasel.” Professor Snape picked Qin Yu up and said slowly.
Upon hearing this, Qin Yu's face immediately fell.
Weasel gland sac... are you going to take me away?
"If you do well, I'll consider adding a point to Gryffindor," Professor Snape added casually.
Okay, you win!
"It's my pleasure, Professor Snape!" Qin Yu smiled broadly.
Then, resolutely, he walked to the lectern/experimental table at the front of the classroom, took a deep breath, picked up a shriveled, grayish-brown dried animal organ with tweezers, and threw it into the mortar.
This grayish-brown thing is the weasel gland sac. Qin Yu had seen it in his textbook. He knew that although it looked ordinary and had a very mild taste, it was quite remarkable once ground into powder.
Having mustered his courage, Qin Yu steeled his resolve and used the pestle in his hand to crush the weasel gland sac, then pressed hard to grind the fragments.
As he ground the powder, an intense, pungent stench quickly filled the classroom.
"Ugh~"
"Ouch~"
"It stinks..."
"I'm about to die!"
"Help!"
"I burst into tears!"
"..."
The students in the classroom were all gagging from the stench and crying for help.
Qin Yu was the first to bear the brunt, and was on the verge of death at any moment.
“Remember this taste!” Professor Snape said slowly and deliberately, raising his voice.
There was nothing he could do; the classroom was so noisy that the students couldn't hear him unless he spoke loudly.
"We understand, Professor. Please let us go!"
"Professor Snape, we really will remember this!"
"This flavor is so unforgettable, I'll remember it for the rest of my life!"
"I can never forget this taste."
The students responded one after another.
Snape's powerful range hood—oops, I mean, Professor Snape waving his wand—instantly sucked away the stench permeating the air.
Then, he contained the stench of the weasel's glandular sac to below Qin Yu's chest, so that no one could smell it.
Seeing this effortless method, Qin Yu once again admired Snape's magical skills and decided that he must learn it so that he wouldn't have to worry about being discovered by the prefects when cooking in the dormitory.
Thinking about all these random thoughts, Qin Yu finally finished grinding the powder and sifted the weasel gland sac powder through a fine sieve.
"It's acceptable, acceptable." Professor Snape glanced at the final powder and nodded.
"Then..." Qin Yu blinked a few times to prompt him.
"Gryffindor, one point added," Professor Snape said calmly.
The Gryffindor students cheered instantly, while the Slytherin students in class at the same time were also very convinced. That was something Qin had earned with his life; they had no choice but to admire him.
"The powder from the weasel's glandular sacs has an extremely foul odor, but it is very useful. Insect and animal repellents made from it can provide you with a certain level of safety when you are in the wild... Next, I will demonstrate the specific method for making this repellent..."
Professor Snape began the formal lecture.
After the class ended, the first-graders lost their appetite again; the weasel glands were more deadly than Professor Swinton's previous bloody and terrifying images.
Professor Snape's infamy quickly overshadowed Professor Swinton's.
……
"Honestly, I teach diligently, so why do I have a bad reputation?" Professor Swinton said with considerable dissatisfaction.
At this moment, he, Qin Yu, and Professor Snape were in the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher's office.
This is the first time the three have reunited since the end of last year.
The reason was that Professor Swinton was busy with something and didn't have time to contact them.
"Ha, where does your self-satisfaction come from?" Qin Yu said irritably.
"Qin, you are my most beloved student, how could you say such a thing to me? I am truly heartbroken!" Professor Swinton said with a sorrowful expression.
"Alright, Stephen, tell us what you called us here for today," Professor Snape finally couldn't help but interject.
Upon hearing this, Professor Swinton immediately dropped his playful expression and became serious.
He didn't speak immediately, but instead took out a small bottle containing a small amount of a dark red liquid.
"What is this?" Snape frowned slightly.
Qin Yu, however, revealed a solemn expression.
Yes, he recognized it; it was the one he'd picked up from some suspicious person in Diagon Alley during the Christmas holidays.
“It seems Qin still remembers this,” Professor Swinton said, looking at Qin Yu.
"Hmm, I remember, but why did Professor Dumbledore entrust it to you?" Qin Yu asked curiously.
“I’ll leave it to you, of course, because it’s somewhat of my area of expertise,” Professor Swinton said with a shrug.
"Your specialty?" Qin Yu thought back to what special skills Professor Swinton possessed.
“It’s alchemy…” Swinton didn’t give Qin Yu much time to guess before giving the answer himself.
"Is this thing related to alchemy?" Qin Yu became increasingly curious.
"Yes."
"Wouldn't you like to explain to me what's going on first?" Professor Snape interrupted them.
“Let Qin speak…” Professor Swinton pointed to Qin Yu.
So Qin Yu recounted his experience in Diagon Alley.
After listening to his account, Professor Snape said calmly, "His actions were quite decisive."
"Professor Dumbledore is investigating this matter himself. He only asked me to study the composition and effects of this liquid. It was only after the research yielded results that he asked me to communicate with you," Professor Swinton added.
"So, what exactly is this?" Qin Yu asked.
“A product of life alchemy, which I suspect comes from the dark alchemy of the North American witch god cult, and its function…” Professor Swinton said, opening something covered by a black cloth next to him.
It was an iron cage containing a white rat with a vacant stare. The rat had many wounds on its body, some of which looked fatal.
"Immortal?" Professor Snape uttered this term that he found somewhat repulsive.
“That’s right, it’s immortality…” Professor Swinton nodded and said.
"What is immortality?" Qin Yu asked, puzzled.
"An immortal body means that although the body can die or be injured, it can still move around," Professor Swinton explained briefly.
After hearing his words and looking at the rat, Qin Yu instantly understood what was going on. Wasn't this a zombie?
"Could this black liquid make animals or people immortal?" Qin Yu said, slightly shocked.
“Yes…but it should have far more than just that one function,” Professor Swinton said cautiously.
His words instantly silenced the room.
After a while, he waved his wand and pointed it at the rat. After a flash of white light, black smoke began to rise from the rat's body, and it quickly burned to ashes.
“It’s long dead,” Professor Swinton said calmly.
Then he continued, "Things seem a bit tricky, so Professor Dumbledore means that we need to continue training Qin to give him more coping skills, since all sorts of unexpected things always happen around him."
I don't want any accidents to happen, okay? Qin Yu thought to himself.
“Yes, that’s exactly what I was thinking,” Professor Snape nodded.
"Heh, then I thank you and Professor Dumbledore," Qin Yu said, rolling his eyes.
And so, the after-school tutoring that Qin Yu thought was finally over became increasingly strict.
Professor Snape even pushed Qin Yu to the point of almost using his Obscurial powers, frantically testing the limits of his abilities. Of course, most of the time, he didn't train him to the point of exhaustion.
……
Classes, after-school tutoring, Quidditch training, and the occasional trip to Hagrid's Hut.
Qin Yu's life at Hogwarts quickly returned to its previous state, and he became even busier.
Despite his busy schedule, he kept his promise to a certain girl, writing her at least two letters every week.
Hermione's reply was quite different from before. At least she wrote "I miss you" directly in her letter, instead of writing "I only think of you occasionally" or simply "I miss Trigg" as she used to.
The short ten-day holiday seemed to have changed her a lot.
As Qin Yu observed the changes in Hermione's writing style, his time at Hogwarts flew by.
Winter is gradually passing, ice and snow are melting, and spring is arriving.
