From cannon fodder villain to superpowered queen
Chapter 13 The Jiang Family Sets Another Obstacle; Wisdom and Courage Break Through the Dilemma
Jiang Ruiyuan suddenly grabbed Bi Yao with such force that Bi Yao stumbled and almost fell into his arms.
"What's wrong?" Before Bi Yao could react, she heard the sound of rapid hoofbeats approaching from afar.
not good!
Jiang Ruiyuan's face darkened, and he said in a low voice, "It's someone from the Jiang family!"
On the open official road, the two had almost nowhere to hide.
The pursuers were moving very fast and were about to catch up.
In a moment of quick thinking, Bi Yao grabbed Jiang Ruiyuan and ran towards an inconspicuous little village by the roadside.
"Let's go to the village to lay low for a while!"
The two plunged into the village, winding their way through the streets until they arrived at a farmhouse.
Bi Yao didn't care about anything else and knocked on the courtyard gate.
"Auntie, help! We're being chased!"
The door was opened by a kind-looking old woman. Seeing the two of them looking flustered, she quickly welcomed them into the house.
"Come in quickly! Come in quickly!"
Bi Yao and Jiang Ruiyuan briefly explained the situation, and the old woman, without saying a word, rummaged through her chests and found two sets of coarse cloth clothes.
"Quick, put it on! I'll go distract them!"
After changing their clothes, Bi Yao and Jiang Ruiyuan looked exactly like two ordinary villagers.
By this time, Chiang Kai-shek's pursuers had entered the village and were searching house to house.
The old woman stood in the doorway, pointed in the opposite direction, and shouted, "They ran that way! Chase after them!"
As expected, the pursuers were misled by the old woman and chased after her in the wrong direction.
Bi Yao and Jiang Ruiyuan hid in the house, listening to the receding sound of horses' hooves, and then breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness, I've escaped a disaster." Bi Yao patted her chest, still shaken.
Jiang Ruiyuan frowned, gazing at the deepening twilight outside the window, and said in a low voice, "Hiding like this isn't a solution..." He reached out and touched the dagger hidden in his sleeve, a resolute glint in his eyes.
"..."
Jiang Ruiyuan suddenly stood up and paced back and forth in the small room, looking anxious and restless.
"No, we can't keep hiding like this! Rather than waiting to die, we should take the initiative!" He said resolutely, as if he was about to rush out and fight the Jiang family to the death.
Bi Yao grabbed him, her brows furrowed. "Calm down! If the two of us go out and fight them head-on, what's the difference between that and sending ourselves to our deaths?" She wasn't a love-struck fool; she wasn't going to do something like that.
"Of the Thirty-Six Stratagems, running away is the best, don't you understand? We need to think this through carefully!"
Jiang Ruiyuan flung Bi Yao's hand away, his tone tinged with annoyance.
"Take a long-term plan? What kind of long-term plan? Are we just going to hide in this little village and wait for them to find us?" He scratched his head in frustration, feeling like a caged beast with no way to use his strength.
Seeing Jiang Ruiyuan's anxious expression, Bi Yao understood his feelings perfectly.
She walked up to him, gently took his hand, and said in a firm yet tender tone, "I know you're worried, and I want to resolve this as soon as possible. I believe in your abilities, but now is really not the time to act impulsively." Bi Yao's hand was warm and soft, as if it possessed some kind of magic, gradually calming Jiang Ruiyuan's restless heart.
He looked at Bi Yao with eyes full of trust and gratitude.
A silence fell over the room, broken only by the howling wind outside the window, as if foreshadowing an impending storm.
Bi Yao looked up at the window, and suddenly her eyes narrowed, as if she had thought of something, and a meaningful smile appeared on her lips.
“Perhaps…” She turned to look at Jiang Ruiyuan, hesitating to speak.
Looking at Bi Yao's mysterious expression, Jiang Ruiyuan felt a surge of curiosity. "Perhaps what?"
Bi Yao smiled mysteriously, "Perhaps we can turn the tables on them!" She pulled out a crumpled map from her bosom, the very map she had taken from the Jiang family's study earlier.
“I remember the Jiang family has a mortal enemy, what’s his name…right, the Zhao family! They’re based in Black Wind Valley outside the city, let’s go there!” Jiang Ruiyuan’s eyes lit up, and he instantly understood Bi Yao’s meaning.
"Brilliant! Let's go to Black Wind Valley and use someone else to do our dirty work!"
The two learned that there was a path in the village that led directly to Black Wind Valley, so they immediately set off.
This path is rugged and overgrown with weeds; most people would never take this route.
Bi Yao and Jiang Ruiyuan proceeded cautiously, afraid of disturbing some venomous snakes or ferocious beasts.
However, among the Jiang family's pursuers was indeed a "Sherlock Holmes-like" figure. He noticed fresh tire tracks at the village entrance, immediately deduced Bi Yao and her group's escape route, and led a few men to take a shortcut and catch up.
Just as they were about to reach Black Wind Valley, Bi Yao and Jiang Ruiyuan ran into their pursuers on the path!
"What a small world!" The lead pursuer grinned and drew his sword. "Let's see where you run this time!" Bi Yao and Jiang Ruiyuan exchanged a glance, both seeing a hint of seriousness in each other's eyes.
"Tsk, they're really persistent!" Bi Yao sneered, flicking a dagger from her sleeve. "Since that's the case, then don't blame us for being impolite!" Jiang Ruiyuan also drew his dagger and assumed a fighting stance.
When two armies meet on a narrow path, the brave will prevail; the outcome is still uncertain!
Just as tensions were about to rise, a gust of cold wind blew by, and a strange rustling sound came from the woods...
Bi Yao and Jiang Ruiyuan felt a chill run down their spines, a sense of foreboding rising within them.
"What's that sound?" one of the pursuers asked warily.
Before the words were even finished, a dark figure darted out from the woods, moving with lightning speed, and instantly tackled the pursuer to the ground...
"Ah——" a scream pierced the night sky.
Bi Yao and Jiang Ruiyuan were stunned. This...
what's the situation?
Could they be from Black Wind Valley?
Before they could react, more dark figures emerged from the woods, surrounding them and the Jiang family's pursuing troops...
Bi Yao whispered to Jiang Ruiyuan, "This plot seems a bit off..." Jiang Ruiyuan gripped the dagger tightly and nodded with a solemn expression.
