Crossing Over to Yamada Love
Chapter 253 Orchid and Chrysanthemum in Pairs
"Auntie, please slow down, be careful of the little boy in your belly."
Mo Lan raised an eyebrow. Was this Mo Ju? Wasn't she having an unstable pregnancy? What was she doing here?
A figure flashed at the doorway, and Mo Ju led two maids in.
Mo Ju was already showing signs of pregnancy, and was being supported by two maids on either side of her. It really looked like she was pregnant.
She glanced at everyone in the room, remained silent, and went straight to the kang (a heated brick bed). She looked at Madam Feng lying on the kang, and when she saw Mo Jin, she frowned. Her grandfather was here too? He looked quite well and had even gained weight. It seemed he was doing well in the main house. So why had he come back?
After looking at Madam Feng, she looked at Madam Cui. What's wrong with her mother now? Is she pretending to be lazy? It doesn't seem like it; she really looks sick. She was too weak to even get up when she saw her.
"Ju'er, my Ju'er, you've finally come! If you hadn't come, I would never have seen you again. I've been through so much trouble, why is my life so miserable?" When Cui saw Mo Ju, her eyes lit up, but she couldn't get up, so she could only hold Mo Ju's hand and cry.
"You still have the nerve to cry? You deserve to die." Dalang said indignantly, and then said another sentence to Cui.
Mo Ju frowned. Why were all the other family members watching the show, while her own mother and brother were fighting? What was the reason for this?
"Ju'er is here, so you two can have a good talk. We'll head back now. Changhe, you stay here and keep watch." Madam Wang didn't want to stay any longer. Since Moju was here, she'd let them resolve things themselves.
"Grandma, I'll stay for a while, you all go back first." Mo Lan didn't leave with the others; she had something to say to Mo Ju.
Wang glanced at her, nodded, and led the people away.
Mo Lan didn't stay inside either, but went to the courtyard. Mo Ju wanted to know what had happened, so she gave her time to find out.
Mo Lan sat alone in the courtyard, looking at the courtyard she had been in since she entered, thinking about what had happened in the past few years.
Inside the room, the sounds of Dalang's cursing, Cui's low sobs, Mo Jin's sighs, and Li's attempts to console her could be heard intermittently. Mo Lan shook her head inwardly; she wondered when this lively drama would ever end.
"Now you've got what you wanted, haven't you?" a cold female voice rang out.
Without even looking up, Mo Lan knew it was Mo Ju, and that she had been waiting for her. Mo Lan glanced at her; she had come alone, so she must have something to say to her.
"The road is one's own to walk; no one can force anyone else. There's no such thing as 'what you want' or 'what you don't want.' I utterly despise your mother; I wish I never had to see her again. But you can't deny that I saved her today. Do you know why I saved her?" Mo Lan stood up, facing Mo Ju directly. She spoke calmly.
"Why?" Mo Ju asked instinctively. She truly didn't understand why the eldest son's family wanted to save her mother. Wouldn't they be happier if her mother died?
“Because her crime doesn’t deserve to die,” Mo Lan said, then continued softly, “As far back as I can remember, I’ve hated the second branch of the family, hated your grandmother, your mother, because they always bullied us, the first branch. They do nothing at home, just sit around and enjoy the fruits of others’ labor, and they’re still not satisfied. Only your grandfather works in the fields in the second branch; everything in the house is done by us, the first branch, but you’re still not satisfied. You even say that it’s your second branch that supports us, that we, the first branch, are a burden. Mo Ju, tell me, how can we like people like that? How can we not hate them?”
Mo Ju didn't refute Mo Lan's words; in fact, she understood everything she was saying. However, as a member of the second wife's family, she wouldn't side with the first wife's family.
“Grandpa and Second Grandpa are blood relatives. You should be able to live a good life as long as you are of one mind. But you just can’t. You think we are a burden. Fine, you’ve separated the family. Now your family can live a good life, right? But look at the kind of life your family is living. Have you ever had a moment of peace?” Mo Lan pressed Mo Ju.
"It's none of your business!" Mo Ju retorted firmly. She was unwilling to show weakness in front of Mo Lan.
"Do you think I want to interfere? I'd rather be as far away from you as possible, never seeing you again, but do you expect us to have any peace and quiet? Today you come to our shop and cause a scene, tomorrow you have a fight. You interfered in my marriage with Cheng Xiao, do you think I didn't know? I just didn't want to pursue it. If you like him, then be with him. It's your own choice, I won't say anything. Your father lost money, your grandfather borrowed money, fine, as long as we have it, we'll lend it, even if we know it'll be wasted, we'll still lend it, we can't just watch your father die. But your father shouldn't have done anything, he shouldn't have acted like a beast." Mo Lan's tone was very cold.
"Don't talk about my father." Mo Ju glared at Mo Lan, but she was all bark and no bite.
"What if I told you?" Mo Lan stared intently at Mo Ju. "Was your father even human? He gambled away the family's wealth, even selling our family members and splitting the family property. What was left of your family after he gambled? What kind of state did he make of himself? In the end, he was so heartless that he even tried to kill his own father. A person like that is a scourge to the world, so I'm not saddened by his death. That was the end he deserved; he ruined his own life."
Mo Ju took a step back. Mo Lan was right; her father had brought this upon himself. She felt somewhat dejected.
"But your mother didn't deserve to die. No matter how annoying she is, no matter how much we dislike her, she was still good to you. Before the family split up, the food was bad, but she didn't neglect you. She didn't forget you when you secretly ate something delicious, did she? When there was money to make new clothes, she didn't refuse to make them for you, did she? She was good to you, so in the Mo family, anyone can hate her, anyone can curse her, but you can't, Dalang can't, because she is your mother, because she gave birth to you, she raised you, she never mistreated you."
Although you're not behaving well, it's not solely her responsibility. So, Moju, use your brain. If your mother were doing well in this family, would she be thinking of remarrying? Would she be so impulsive as to try to kill herself? Don't tell me that being good to her and giving her money is filial piety. What juniors do can never compare to the sacrifices of elders. If she wants to marry, go with her; if she wants a good life, go with her. But if she really dies today, what good will it do to regret it or come to your senses? Try to persuade your brother. He'll listen to you.” Molan was able to say these things to Moju today not out of pity, but because she felt that Cui Shi was a mother, at least she was good to her children.
"What benefits will you get?" Mo Ju's eyes flashed.
"What do I get in return? I wish I could slap you across the face. Is it because you saw Cheng Yueqing get beaten that you want to take a beating with her? What does our family lack right now? Nothing. Even if we did, we would earn it honestly. We don't care about playing tricks on you. What benefits can you give me? Get your brains straight. And don't try to frame me and my family with tricks in the Cheng family. It won't work. If you really piss me off, I'll just get a bowl of safflower and beat your child, making you unable to have children for the rest of your life. You can only watch." Mo Lan couldn't contain her anger and said these two harsh words to her.
“You won’t, Mo Lan. I hate you, I’ve always hated you, but today I thank you. Maybe we were born enemies. But I know that none of us from the second branch of the family are any good. My brother is a bit of a troublemaker, and my sister-in-law isn’t exactly easy to deal with either. If my mother really wants to remarry, I will persuade my brother. You’re right, others can hate her, despise her, but we can’t. Actually, I’ve discovered that you’re soft-hearted, but my hatred for you has been buried too deep, becoming an obsession. I can’t let go of it for a while, but you don’t need to worry anymore. Your family has benefactors now, I can’t harm you. Nor do I have the ability to harm you.” Mo Ju stared into Mo Lan’s eyes, said these words, and then sighed deeply.
"Alright, I've said everything I needed to say. Doesn't the Cheng family have servants and maids? Leave one to take care of your grandmother. I reckon if you don't leave a maid, no one will take care of her. Don't count on my family. My family is already too busy with a bunch of things. I don't have the kindness to make my father stay here and act like a dutiful son. It's us who will be the ones who feel sorry for him when he gets tired." Mo Lan turned around after saying this.
"Wait, don't you want to know about Cheng Xiao's situation?" Mo Ju called out to her from behind.
"She is your man, Fang Yan'er's husband, and has nothing to do with me," Mo Lan replied without turning around.
"His condition has improved. He likes you. I'm afraid my sister and I will never be able to enter his heart in this lifetime." Mo Ju seemed to be speaking to Mo Lan, but also to herself. After saying this, she stood there blankly, lost in thought.
Mo Lan heard it, but she didn't say anything and walked away.
Mo Lan smiled faintly as she walked along the road. It was good that Cheng Xiao was getting better. It made her feel a little better. If the second wife, Cui Shi, got married, it would save her from constantly causing trouble for her family. Feng Shi was bedridden and wouldn't be able to cause any more trouble. That left only Da Lang and Li Shi; if they caused less trouble, her family would have more peace and quiet.
When they got home, Wang had already told the old Marquis and the others what had happened. The old Marquis couldn't help but laugh. Mo Lan was quite wicked, directly having someone force-feed Cui Shi urine. But it sounded quite satisfying. That's how you have to treat a woman like Cui Shi, especially since it was to save her life.
"Girl, you're back! Come on, tell your great-uncle what's going on in your head? How come you have so many tricks up your sleeve?" the old Marquis called to Mo Lan.
"Grandpa, please don't mention it. We still need to eat dinner tonight." Mo Lan couldn't possibly talk about being forced to pee at home; how could she possibly eat dinner then?
Haha, Mo Lan's words and expression made everyone in the room laugh.
"I've asked Moju to leave one of the maids behind to take care of Second Mistress, so my father won't have to work so hard. After tonight, he won't have to stay here all the time; he can just go and check on her occasionally," Molan said to everyone.
"By the way, I sent Da'er to town to pick out servants. He said he's taken a liking to two and is checking their backgrounds. The people who come to your house must be innocent; we can't let them bring trouble into your home," the old Marquis said to Madam Wang.
Huh? Mo Lan looked up at her great-uncle. She had just bought someone, and her great-uncle had already sent her cousin first. They really were thinking the same thing.
