Crossing Over to Yamada Love

Chapter 199 Mo Lan is awake

Suddenly, as if he had thought of something, he shouted, "Lanlan. Jin!" and tried to sit up.

Xue Lingfeng quickly pressed him down to stop him from moving. His internal organs were already injured, and his bones were broken. If he continued to move around like this, he would probably get even more injured.

"Father, what exactly happened? Can you tell me?" Mo Changhai asked, seeing that his father had regained consciousness.

Mo Quan was in excruciating pain, every part of his body aching. His ribs burned, and every movement of his mouth made him gasp for breath. But he had to tell them what he knew. Enduring the pain, he said, "That beast Changsheng tricked us, and then four people came out to kidnap Lanlan and kill me and your second uncle."

"Your second uncle knelt there begging that beast to let Lanlan go, but he wouldn't. I said we'd offer money if they didn't arrest her, but they still wouldn't. They're Chen Xuewen's henchmen, how could they let us go! We had no choice but to fight." Mo Quan spoke haltingly, pausing to catch his breath when the pain became unbearable, then continuing when he felt better. He finally managed to get his story out of the box.

"It's alright, it's alright, they're all dead, Father, don't be angry. By the way, Father, who killed them? Were there any others?" Mo Changhai asked, which was also what everyone wanted to know. How could his father and the others have dealt with four burly men?

Mo Quan's mind raced back to the events: his granddaughter had killed someone! All to save him and Jin. He glanced at his granddaughter; she had been ill at the time. How much courage must her frail granddaughter have needed to commit murder? She must have been terrified. Mo Quan felt a pang of heartache, realizing he had failed his granddaughter.

"Your second uncle and I killed them. We each killed two. Those beasts deserve to die," Mo Quan said sternly. He wasn't telling the truth. He couldn't say that his granddaughter had killed people. He couldn't let anyone know. Even if he had to pay with his life, he'd rather take it with his own.

"Master, don't worry, those people deserve to die! They'll be fine. You don't need to worry about this. Just focus on recovering. I'll handle things with the authorities." Xue Lingfeng hurriedly comforted Mo Quan, then gave Steward Xue a wink. Steward Xue quickly nodded and left.

Xue Lingyun listened to Mo Quan's words without interrupting. He had personally witnessed Lanlan plunging a dagger into someone's back when he went inside. He didn't know who else it was, but he was certain that Lanlan had killed that person. However, he wouldn't say anything. He didn't want Lanlan to have a bad reputation.

Xue Lingfeng was also pondering. Mo Quan definitely wasn't telling the truth. Who really killed that person? Was it Lanlan? She couldn't possibly kill four people by herself, but Lanlan must have been the one to do it. His Lanlan, such a kind and beautiful little girl, what kind of danger could have driven her to kill? It was all his fault for arriving too late and failing to protect her. Xue Lingfeng looked at Mo Lan with heartache and guilt in his eyes.

As darkness fell and night descended, many families in the village lay down on their heated kang beds to rest. But the Mo family kept their oil lamps lit. Many people sat inside.

Neither Xue Lingfeng nor Xue Lingyun wanted to leave; they couldn't rest easy until they saw Mo Lan wake up. They had both sent a servant back to the Xue residence to inform them that they had business to attend to and wouldn't be returning. Then they stayed behind, waiting with everyone else for Mo Lan to wake up.

Neither of the two doctors left. They agreed that one would stay for the first half of the night and the other for the second half, so that there would always be a doctor on hand to deal with any situation that might arise.

The Mo family members were all gathered around the kang (heated brick bed). Mo Quan had already fallen into a deep sleep. His body was still very weak, and he simply couldn't keep up with staying up all night. No matter how worried he was, he could only obey his body's commands and close his eyes to sleep.

The doctor said he was no longer in mortal danger, but it would probably take at least six months to a year for him to fully recover.

The night seemed endless; only a quarter of an hour had passed, then just an hour. Everyone was anxious, but they were powerless to help Mo Jin and Mo Lan wake up, and could only wait silently.

An anxious night passed by just like that. No one got any rest. Mo Lan half-opened her eyes twice, but both times she was not fully conscious. Before everyone could smile, she fell asleep again. Mo Jin, on the other hand, remained unconscious, and his condition was not optimistic.

At dawn, Dalang came looking for his grandmother and mother, who were being held captive. He saw their injuries and the two of them curled up in the corner, fast asleep. He was furious. His great-grandfather's family was too much of a bully. How could they treat his grandmother and mother like this? He rolled up his sleeves, ready to rush in and settle accounts with the eldest son's family, but he was stopped and beaten by a servant of the Xue family.

When the servant beat him, he cursed the eldest son's family, which angered the servant so much that he hit him even harder. Madam Feng and Madam Cui rushed over to take the beating for him. He couldn't take the beating, so he cursed even more. Finally, Madam Feng covered his mouth to stop him from making a sound, and he finally quieted down. He was then placed under guard along with his grandmother and mother.

Mo Changhe dragged his frozen body back. He hadn't been guarding the house, fearing Mo Changsheng might sneak back to the second wife's quarters at night, but instead had been waiting outside the old house, hoping to catch him when he returned. He waited all night, but Mo Changsheng didn't come. Helpless, he got up. As he stood, he swayed; his legs were numb with cold, and his body was completely devoid of warmth. It was his worry for his family and his burning desire to catch Mo Changsheng that had kept him going.

Only when he realized he was about to go home did he discover that his legs were no longer legs; he couldn't even take a step. But the thought that his father, second uncle, and daughter would likely wake up, and that he had to go back to see them, gave him the strength to drag his numb body to his house. After returning home, he calmed down a bit, then heard about Qian Yu'er's situation. Knowing she had almost caused his family's deaths, he was filled with remorse and repeatedly slapped himself. Everyone watching was filled with anxiety, anger, and heartache.

It was broad daylight outside, but the Mo family's anxiety did not subside with the dawn.

Mo Lan's fever wouldn't break, and Mo Jin wouldn't wake up. They were as anxious as ants on a hot pan, but there was nothing they could do. No matter how anxious they were, they couldn't help.

Mo Quan woke up again. He was in better spirits than last night, and he became anxious when he saw his granddaughter and brother who were still unconscious.

Xue Lingfeng sent someone to the town to get more medicine, as they were running out. He also sent someone from the manor, as they had many good medicinal herbs. When Madam Xue found out, she sent some tonics and herbs to the servant Xue Lingfeng had sent over, as a way of doing her part for the Mo family.

By noon, the person still hadn't woken up, and everyone's anxiety grew. Wang hadn't slept a wink since yesterday morning, nor had she eaten or drunk anything. Looking at the food her daughter-in-law brought her, she felt a deep ache in her heart and simply couldn't swallow it.

“Mother, please eat a little bit. Otherwise, you’ll collapse before Lan’er even wakes up. We won’t be at ease if you do that.” Liu knelt down and pleaded with her mother-in-law.

Seeing that the others were also about to kneel, Wang Shi hurriedly helped her daughter-in-law up, saying, "Get up, Mother, eat. Everyone, have a bite. We can't collapse first; we have to see Lan'er get better. Eat, everyone eat." With that, Wang Shi took the bowl and ate the food through her tears. She couldn't collapse first; she had to see her Lan'er wake up. Her Lan'er would definitely wake up.

Hearing Wang's words, everyone understood the logic. Even if they couldn't eat, they had to eat; only by eating and having the strength could they care for the sick and wait for Mo Lan and the others to wake up. So everyone ate a little something haphazardly and continued to wait.

In the afternoon, Mo Lan finally woke up. This time she was no longer unconscious; she was truly awake. Her eyes slowly regained focus, and her mind was returning; she was no longer dazed.

"Ah." Mo Lan let out a soft "ah," feeling as if a fire was burning in her throat, and she felt like she couldn't make a sound.

"Girl, you're awake."

"Lan'er..."

"Lanlan!" The crowd gathered around, calling out all at once.

Looking at the faces before her, each one filled with concern, Mo Lan nodded gently.

"Master." Mo Lan's mind cleared up, and she called out with difficulty.

"Girl, I'm here. It's good that you're awake, it's good that you're awake." Mo Quan said to Mo Lan, his face full of joy at seeing his granddaughter wake up, and he felt that his body was not so painful anymore.

Mo Lan tried to speak, but after opening her mouth several times, no sound came out.

"Lanlan, the doctor said your fever has lasted a long time, and it hasn't completely subsided yet. Your throat is red and swollen, and it must hurt a lot, making it difficult to speak. It will get better in a few days. Let's not rush to talk. No rush. We can talk properly when you're better." Liu Shi stepped forward to comfort Molan, afraid that Molan would be anxious to speak.

"My good daughter, you've suffered so much." Madam Qiu cried as she hugged Mo Lan, her heart aching. Her little girl had suffered so much. She only regretted not being able to take her place. Otherwise, if she had suffered in her daughter's place, her daughter wouldn't have to suffer so much.

Xue Lingfeng and Xue Lingyun saw Mo Lan wake up, their faces and eyes filled with joy, and their hearts were at ease. They wanted to go forward, but felt it was inappropriate, so they forcibly restrained themselves and watched silently. Seeing Mo Lan like this, their hearts ached, and they wished they could take Qiu Shi's place and hold her, comforting her. How wonderful that would be!

Mo Lan grinned at the crowd, as if trying to comfort them, but her smile vanished almost instantly. A scene of her killing flashed through her mind: the splattered blood, the warm sensation, the fallen figure, the unclosed eyes—all these images flashed before her eyes. She killed someone! She actually killed someone?!
