Rebirth and Rewriting Fate

Chapter 74 Mo Han's Promise

“I once had a very long dream. In the dream, there was also a you, also named Mo Han. She played with me and protected me. Many people abandoned me, but she never abandoned me. Even if I asked her to do something she didn't want to do, she never refused. She always stood behind me to protect me. Even when she found out that I was poisoned, she was willing to spend a year traveling around to find an antidote for me. She is a very, very important person to me, a very important family member to me.”

Yun Chu paused here, as if she could see Mo Han from back then before her eyes.

"And then what happened?" Mo Han asked in a low voice beside him.

Yun Chu's heart ached terribly. "Later, because of my selfish desires, because of my mistakes, she died. She died right beside me, covered in blood. Even in her last moments, she was still thinking of me." Tears streamed down her face again.

Mo Han, standing beside Yun Chu, held her arm tightly and made a firm promise, "Miss, I will not die. I will always be with you, accompany you as you get married and have children, and watch the young master and young lady grow up."

"Okay." Yun Chu cried as she grasped Mo Han's hand. They nestled together in the cave, and at that moment, Yun Chu's heart was no longer filled with panic.

"Sir, we've spotted a carriage ahead. The horses are gone, and we've also found two corpses," Sui Bo said, holding up a torch.

Gu Ruoxiao quickly dismounted to check. They had just rescued Shangguan Wan'er and had been traveling day and night towards the capital.

As Gu Ruoxiao approached the carriage, Chiwu emerged from it. "Master, there is Miss Yun Chu's bundle inside the carriage."

Gu Ruoxiao frowned, and before she could think about it further, a shout came from not far away, "Master, Master!"

Zhu Liu ran over from beside the tall man's corpse, holding up Mo Han's sword, and said, "Master, the identities of the two corpses have been confirmed. They are the brothers known in the martial arts world as the 'High and Low Duo.' The sword on the tall man's body belongs to Mo Han."

“Master, this.” Chengfeng handed over an arrow from a hidden sleeve. “This was found on the short man.”

Gu Ruoxiao took the arrow; it was a hidden arrow he had given to Yun Chu, and a cold glint appeared in his eyes.

"Master, come over here quickly!" Chiwu shouted from the hillside. "The grass here has been trampled; someone must have rolled down it." Chiwu analyzed.

"Send people to search immediately!" Gu Ruoxiao ordered, his clenched fist revealing his worry and tension.

At this moment, Chiwu and Chengfeng felt a surge of guilt. If something really happened to Miss Yun Chu, they would be guilty beyond redemption and would not be able to face their master.

The next day, at the crack of dawn, Yun Chu woke up and looked at Mo Han beside her, who was still asleep.

The firewood in the cave was about to burn out. She got up, yawning, poured water to extinguish the fire, and said while gathering the firewood, "Mo Han, wake up. We'll go find a doctor right away."

But Mo Han didn't respond. Yun Chu turned her head and looked at Mo Han, who was pale and had her eyes closed. Yun Chu hurriedly stepped forward and shook Mo Han, but she didn't react at all. She touched Mo Han's forehead and found that she had a fever. Yun Chu quickly checked her pulse and found that her wound was infected.

Yun Chu jumped up in a panic, but suddenly everything went black before her eyes and then brightened again. She felt dizzy and quickly grabbed the stone wall for support. She shook her head and opened her eyes again. She couldn't fall down; she had to take Mo Han to the doctor as soon as possible.

Suddenly, a sound came from outside. "Miss Yun Chu!" "Mo Han!" Someone was looking for them.

It was Gu Ruoxiao. He had arrived. Yun Chu realized this and turned to run outside, but she twisted her ankle as she descended the stone steps. Despite the sharp pain, she continued running downhill, calling out, "We're here!"

Soon, the sound of a crowd rushing towards them could be heard.

Seeing Gu Ruoxiao rushing over from around the corner, Yun Chu lunged forward. Gu Ruoxiao quickly caught her. "Quick, quick, please save Mo Han!" Yun Chu said anxiously, her eyes filled with urgency and panic.

Before Gu Ruoxiao could reply, a voice came from behind, "What's wrong with her? Let me see."

A woman rushed over from around the corner, and Yun Chu's hand, which was holding Gu Ruoxiao's, froze.

Yes, how could Yun Chu have forgotten? Gu Ruoxiao went to rescue Shangguan Wan'er. If she failed, why would she have returned? And if she had rescued her, why didn't she keep her by her side to protect her? She was too hasty. Yun Chu pulled her hand away from Gu Ruoxiao's and, enduring the pain of her sprained ankle, walked back into the cave.

Inside the cave, Shangguan Wan'er was examining Mo Han and applying medicine to her.

"How is she?" Yun Chu asked anxiously.

"Her wound got infected, which caused her fever and made her fall into a deep sleep. She'll wake up soon after taking the medicine, don't worry," Shangguan Wan'er said.

Yun Chu nodded.

“I’ll carry her down,” Chengfeng said.

Chiwu helped lift the person onto Chengfeng's back, and Shangguan Wan'er followed behind, protecting the person as they left the cave.

Yun Chu was about to follow when Gu Ruoxiao stopped her. She looked up at him, puzzled.

Gu Ruoxiao forcibly pressed the person down onto the rock. "Are you hurting your foot?" he asked. He then squatted down and reached out to touch Yun Chu's foot.

Yun Chu pulled her foot back to protect it, and said with her head down, "I'm fine. I just checked, it's just a slight twist, it'll be fine after a while."

Seeing her evasiveness, Gu Ruoxiao frowned slightly and asked, "Then can you still walk?"

"I can do it," Yun Chu replied quickly.

Gu Ruoxiao was about to reach out to help Yun Chu when she heard Yun Chu say, "Lord Chiwu, could you please help me up?"

Chiwu froze on the spot. He looked at Gu Ruoxiao and then at Yun Chu, wondering to himself, "Is Miss Yun Chu trying to avoid suspicion? Didn't you notice that I and Miss Yun Chu had a fight?"

Seeing that neither of them moved, and realizing that it would be difficult for her to descend the slope on her own, Yun Chu had no choice but to speak again, "Lord Chiwu, is it alright?"

But Chiwu dared not move at this moment.

Looking at Yun Chu's unusual behavior, Gu Ruoxiao felt as if their relationship had returned to the point of their initial falling out. He took a step back and made way for her.

But Chiwu still dared not move.

"Never mind," Yun Chu thought to herself. "It's just a matter of enduring the pain and walking on my own." She was about to bravely stand up on the stone when she heard the person beside her say, "Chiwu!"

Chiwu quickly stepped forward and lent Yun Chu his arm. With this support, Yun Chu could walk much more easily.

And so, Yun Chu walked forward, supporting Chi Wu's arm, with Gu Ruoxiao following behind. Gu Ruoxiao looked at Yun Chu's stubborn back and wondered what had gone wrong.

Two carriages soon arrived at the flat area around the corner. Chengfeng put Mo Han in the back carriage and then got off.

“I’ll go to Mo Han’s carriage; I can take care of her. Your Highness and Miss Shangguan, please sit in the front.” Yun Chu spoke first, and with Chi Wu’s arm, she climbed into the carriage.

So, Gu Ruoxiao and Shangguan Wan'er sat in the first carriage, and Yun Chu and Mo Han sat in the second. Guards on horseback escorted them as the carriages sped along the road back to the capital.
