After a week of school, Yu Nuan has become familiar with her classmates, but she is most familiar with Gu Qing. The two are now inseparable except when they are sleeping at night.

After learning that Gu Qing's parents had both passed away and that she was now living alone with her brother, Lin's mother felt especially sorry for the little girl. Whenever Lin's mother cooked something delicious at home, she would ask Yu Nuan to deliver it to her, and sometimes she would invite the two siblings over for a meal.

However, Gu Qing always politely declined, accepting the gifts but refusing to eat, afraid of disturbing Yu Nuan's family.

Now that Lin's mother is no longer a homeroom teacher, she teaches the first-year high school students. Her work is not busy, so she doesn't hire a nanny and cooks at home herself.

On weekends, Lin's mother has time to make some of Yu Nuan's favorite pastries, a skill that Lin's mother learned specifically for Yu Nuan. Yu Nuan's maternal grandmother's family has a long history in the pastry business, so some of their secret recipes are not uncommon. Lin's mother makes them according to these recipes, and the taste is naturally incomparable to those sold in the market.

Every time Yu Nuan tasted it, she praised it highly.

"Nuan Nuan, take some of these to Gu Qing." Lin's mother handed a plate of pastries to Yu Nuan. Yu Nuan had been eating non-stop since the pastries came out of the oven, and Lin's mother was worried that she was eating too much and wouldn't be able to eat lunch later.

“Okay, Mom.” Yu Nuan happily took it, went to Gu Qing’s house, and knocked on the door.

After a long time without anyone opening the door, Yu Nuan thought, "Could it be that Gu Qing went out on something?" So she took out her phone and called Gu Qing. The phone rang for a long time but no one answered. Yu Nuan put her ear close to the door and could vaguely hear the phone ringing from inside. Yu Nuan was wondering why; if the phone was at home, then the person definitely hadn't left.

Then, Yu Nuan pounded on the door, calling Gu Qing's name, "Gu Qing, Gu Qing, are you home? I brought you some snacks my mom made."

Fortunately, there were only two families on this floor, otherwise, the noise would have been considered a disturbance.

Inside the house, Gu Qing also heard Yu Nuan's voice. She had a fever and was delirious. She didn't know how long she had slept in the living room, but Yu Nuan had woken her up. Gu Qing struggled to get up and slowly moved to the door to open it for Yu Nuan.

As soon as he opened the door, he collapsed onto Yu Nuan, exhausted. Yu Nuan was startled by Gu Qing's sudden fall, and as she tried to catch him, the plate in Gu Qing's hand fell to the ground and shattered with a loud thud.

Lin's mother heard the noise from inside the house and, thinking something had happened, quickly came out to check.

Then they saw her daughter struggling to support Gu Qing, who looked as if she had fainted. Lin's mother quickly came over to help support Gu Qing and asked, "Nuan Nuan, what happened?"

"I don't know either. I knocked on the door for ages, and this is what Gu Qing opened it to find," Yu Nuan said, equally bewildered. Seeing Gu Qing unconscious, Yu Nuan was frightened, her voice trembling with tears.

Lin's mother glanced at Gu Qing's flushed face, touched her forehead, and found it burning hot.

"Gu Qing has a fever, and it looks like it's quite high. She needs to be taken to the hospital. Nuan Nuan, go to Gu Qing's house and get her a coat. Mom will drive Gu Qing to the hospital."

After all, Lin's mother was an adult, and she calmly made arrangements for Yu Nuan.

Upon hearing this, Yu Nuan quickly went back into the house and found Gu Qing's coat. Seeing Gu Qing's phone on the coffee table, Yu Nuan thought that if she took the phone, she could contact Gu Qing's family at the hospital.

After helping Gu Qing put on her coat, Lin's mother had Yu Nuan help Gu Qing while she went back inside to get her car keys and phone. The two of them had been in such a hurry that they hadn't taken anything with them.

Suddenly, Gu Qing's phone rang. Yu Nuan glanced at the caller ID and saw it was her brother. After thinking for a moment, Yu Nuan answered the phone, not caring about invading someone else's privacy at this point.

Before Yu Nuan could speak after answering the phone, Gu Chen called out, "Qiao Qiao."

"Gu Chen, this is Lin Yunuan. Gu Qing is currently running a fever and has fainted. My mother and I are on our way to take her to the hospital."

Upon hearing that his younger sister had a fever and was unconscious, Gu Chen became anxious on the other end of the phone and said, "Okay, then thank you for your help. You go to the hospital first, I'll call my parents and they'll be there soon."

"it is good."

After hanging up the phone, Lin's mother also came out. The two of them helped Gu Qing to the car. They arrived at the hospital shortly afterward.

After finishing his call with Yu Nuan, Gu Chen immediately called his parents.

When Gu Chen's friend saw that he looked serious after finishing the phone call, he asked with concern, "Gu Chen, is something wrong with Qiao Qiao?"

They had played with Gu Chen since they were little and had long regarded Gu Qing as their own younger sister.

"Qiaoqiao was home alone with a fever and collapsed. It was only when her classmate, who was also her next-door neighbor, went to look for her that they found her."

Linshi No. 1 High School has a strict rule that all first-year high school students must undergo military training for half a month in the suburbs and are not allowed to go home.

"Why didn't Qiaoqiao go home over the weekend?" Zhou Yu asked.

"Hmm." Gu Chen didn't say anything more.

But everyone understood that Gu Qing missed her parents and didn't want to leave the place where her family had lived.

Wu Qi patted Gu Chen on the shoulder and said, "It's okay, someone found her now. She'll be fine once she's taken to the hospital. Just pay more attention to Qiao Qiao's health in the future."

After Lin's mother completed the hospital admission procedures for Gu Qing and the doctor examined her and prescribed her medication, Gu Chen's parents arrived at the hospital and found Gu Qing's ward after asking the front desk.

At this moment, Gu Qing is receiving an IV drip, and Yu Nuan and her mother are watching over her.

Gu Chen's parents rushed to Gu Qing's bedside. Lin's mother, seeing them, looked at Gu Qing anxiously; they must be Gu Qing's relatives. "Hello, are you Gu Qing's..."

"Uncle, Aunt. Thank you so much for bringing my niece to the hospital. I really don't know how to thank you enough."

Gu Chen's mother held Lin's mother's hand and said gratefully.

"It's alright, no need to thank me. We're all neighbors. This is my daughter, Lin Yunuan. She's Gu Qing's classmate and has received a lot of help from him."

Gu Chen's father looked at Yu Nuan and found her familiar, and asked, "Aren't you a student who just transferred here? I saw you in Teacher Li's office the other day."

"Yes, uncle."

"Oh, what a coincidence. Qiaoqiao, this child, she was really sick but didn't even call us. She insisted on staying alone in that empty house. It was so worrying." Gu Chen's mother said, tears streaming down her face.

Since her younger brother and sister-in-law passed away, Qiaoqiao often spaced out and didn't speak. After the start of the school year, she insisted on going back to her mother's house. Unable to persuade her otherwise, she had to let her son accompany her. However, unexpectedly, something happened right after the start of the school year.

Lin's mother didn't know how to comfort her.

"That's alright, we'll be going now," said Lin's mother.

Okay. Be careful on the road.

When Lin's mother left, Gu Chen's mother asked for her phone number, hoping that Gu Qing could contact them directly if she needed anything in the future.
