Legendary Person: I brought my skills back to reality!
Chapter 76 One Year!!
Old Li's expression relaxed slightly, but his brows remained furrowed. He glanced at his watch and said, "Very good. Now listen, in fifteen minutes, on the hour, there will be a top-level video conference. Participants will include the top leadership and heads of key departments. Some important information will be communicated to all branches of the Bureau of Mysteries."
He paused, his gaze sweeping across the faces of the people on the other side of the screen, his tone becoming more serious: "This meeting is extremely important; it may determine the future direction of our country. You must be fully prepared to deal with any possible situation at any time."
Zheng Jinqiang nodded solemnly, a hint of gravity in his eyes. Director Li's image then disappeared, leaving only the images of the people present on the screen. A brief silence fell over the conference room.
Xu Hao sat in his seat, his hands crossed on the table, his fingers unconsciously tapping lightly. He looked around and noticed that everyone else also looked serious, making each second of the wait seem exceptionally long.
Xu Hao took a deep breath and thought to himself, "It seems that my recent performance is quite recognized, that they would allow a newcomer like me to participate in this kind of meeting."
As time ticked by, Xu Hao felt his heart race and his palms sweat slightly. He noticed Zheng Jinqiang constantly checking his watch, while Shi Shaowei was busy organizing documents. A tense atmosphere filled the conference room.
Suddenly, the screen began to flicker, and everyone immediately straightened up. After the scene changed, a black figure, whose image had been digitally altered, appeared in the center of the screen.
The mysterious figure sat upright at a huge oval conference table, surrounded by members of the country's top leadership. Xu Hao recognized several faces that frequently appeared in the news, but most were complete strangers.
Just then, Shi Shaowei quietly leaned close to Xu Hao's ear and whispered, "That big shot whose face you can't see is the director of our Bureau of Mysterious Affairs. Nobody knows his real identity or what he looks like. But one thing is certain: he has a place in the Elder Council and is one of the highest decision-makers in the country. However, his existence is unknown to the outside world."
Xu Hao nodded slightly, his eyes fixed on the screen. He noticed the dark figure move slightly.
The shadowy figure leaned forward slightly, and a deep, electronically processed voice came from the screen: "Colleagues, I believe you are all aware of what just happened. We are facing an unprecedented challenge."
The atmosphere in the conference room froze instantly. Xu Hao held his breath, listening intently.
The shadowy figure leaned forward slightly, his voice low and serious: "Just two days before this catastrophic, massive, and bizarre intrusion occurred, our deep-space probe in the Kuiper Belt detected an unusual energy fluctuation."
A complex star map appeared on the screen, marked with a large amount of data and coordinates. A red dot flashed in the map, attracting everyone's attention.
“This fluctuation,” the shadowy figure continued, “comes from a star system about 47 light-years from Earth. Its characteristics are unlike any natural phenomenon we know. Signals from the Kuiper Belt take one to two days to reach Earth, so we were unable to detect this signal in time, and therefore failed to predict the outbreak of this large-scale, bizarre event.”
Xu Hao noticed that Zheng Jinqiang was quickly taking notes in his notebook, the pen scratching on the paper. Shi Shaowei, on the other hand, was staring intently at the screen, his brow furrowed.
The shadowy figure waved its hand, and the screen switched to a series of complex waveforms and data tables. "Our quantum computer performed an in-depth analysis of this data, and the results show that this energy fluctuation is 96.7% correlated with the subsequent large-scale, bizarre events that occurred globally."
Xu Hao felt a chill run down his spine and noticed that his palms were sweating.
“What’s even more worrying,” the shadowy figure’s voice grew deeper, “is that we’ve discovered that this energy fluctuation seems to be related to some kind of periodic celestial change. According to preliminary calculations, this change occurs approximately every 108 years.”
A timeline spanning thousands of years appeared on the screen, marking numerous large-scale, bizarre events throughout history. Xu Hao noticed that Shi Shaowei's hands were trembling slightly; clearly, he too had realized the terrifying implications of this discovery.
The shadowy figure's voice suddenly became more serious.
“However, recent observations show that this energy fluctuation has experienced an explosive increase,” the shadowy figure said, as a series of complex charts and curves appeared on the screen. Xu Hao noticed that one of the curves showed a sharp upward trend, extending almost vertically upwards.
“Our quantum computer operates day and night,” the shadowy figure continued. “According to the latest calculations, the next similar celestial change is expected to occur in about a year.”
Xu Hao felt his heart race, and he subconsciously glanced at his colleagues. Zheng Jinqiang's pen paused for a moment, then he wrote on the paper at an even faster pace. Shi Shaowei's face turned pale, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.
"What does this mean?" The shadowy figure paused briefly, glancing around at the attendees. "It means we may be facing another, even more severe, bizarre intrusion. According to model predictions, the next intrusion could be three to five times larger than this one."
The air in the conference room seemed to freeze. Xu Hao felt difficulty breathing, and he quietly took a deep breath, trying to calm his erratic heartbeat.
"Gentlemen," the shadowy voice broke the silence once more, "we must use this year to make thorough preparations. This is not just a challenge, but a battle concerning the fate of humanity."
"At the same time," the shadowy figure emphasized, "this information must be kept strictly confidential. We must avoid causing social panic and maintain social stability. Any act of leaking information will be treated as treason."
“I believe,” the shadowy voice grew firm and resolute, “that as long as we stand united, we will surely overcome this challenge. For the future of humanity, we have no choice but to win!”
The meeting ended quickly, and Xu Hao sat there, unable to calm down for a long time.
Just an hour ago, he was only speculating that there might be another bizarre invasion, and that the next large-scale bizarre invasion would be even more ferocious, with more and more powerful monsters descending upon this world.
It's been confirmed so quickly. Planting flags carelessly will never end well!
