Chapter 6 Lin Ya's Blind Date (Part 1)

Lin Ya was immersed in the joy of receiving Xu Hao's gift when her phone suddenly rang, interrupting her thoughts. She glanced at the caller ID and frowned – it was her father calling.

"Hello, Dad," Lin Ya answered the phone, her tone slightly unnatural.

"Ya Ya, are you home?" Her father's voice came from the other end of the phone, sounding somewhat urgent.

"Yes, I'm at home. What's wrong?" Lin Ya had a vague sense of unease.

"That's great. I've arranged a blind date for you. We'll meet at the coffee shop in the Jin Mao Tower at 3 PM this afternoon. You absolutely have to go."

Lin Ya's heart sank, her fingers unconsciously stroking the ring Xu Hao had given her. She took a deep breath, suppressing her displeasure: "Dad, didn't we agree? I'll make my own decisions."

"Ya Ya, you're thirty years old already. How can you not find a good match soon?" Her father's voice rose a few decibels. "This time, your partner is excellent. He's the vice president of Zhongtian Group, 35 years old, handsome, and earns at least a million a year. He's much better than you. What more could you possibly want?"

Lin Ya felt a wave of suffocation, as if someone was choking her. She clenched her fists, her nails digging deep into her palms: "Dad, I don't need you to arrange things for me. I have my own life and my own choices. Ever since Shaojie left, I've been prepared to live on my own."

"Living alone??" Her father sneered, interrupting Lin Ya. "Isn't it just that you're still thinking about that idle little tenant? Don't think I don't know how much you care about him!"

Lin Ya suddenly stood up, her face drained of color: "Dad! How could you say that? Xu Hao is just my tenant, there's nothing between us!"

“Nothing is perfect.” The father’s tone softened. “Ya Ya, I’m doing this for your own good. Look at yourself now, stuck in a few dilapidated houses, without even a decent job. If you marry the vice president of Zhongtian, what will you have to worry about in the future?”

Lin Ya felt dizzy. She gripped the back of the sofa, her voice trembling, "Dad, I don't need you to arrange these things for me. I have my own life and my own pursuits. Please respect my choices."

"Respect your choice?" The father's voice rose again. "Your choice is to hang out with that good-for-nothing brat? I'm telling you, you have to go on that blind date at three o'clock this afternoon! Otherwise, I'll take back all those houses you own!"

Lin Yaru was struck dumb, frozen in place. She managed to stammer, "Dad, you...you can't do this..."

"Why can't I? I paid for most of the money when you and Shaojie bought so many houses!" the father said coldly. "If you don't listen to me, we'll settle this score!"

Lin Ya felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. She slumped onto the sofa, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face. She knew her father meant what he said; if he really took the house back, not only would she have nowhere to go, but Xu Hao would also be implicated.

“Okay…I’ll go…” Lin Ya said, choking back tears, “But this is the last time. If it still doesn’t work this time, you’re not allowed to interfere in my life again.”

“Okay, I’ll agree as long as you go.” The father’s tone was noticeably more relaxed. “Remember, 3 p.m., Jin Mao Tower coffee shop. Don’t be late.”

After hanging up the phone, Lin Ya slumped onto the sofa, tears streaming down her face. She stared at the glass ring on her hand, her heart filled with mixed emotions. She so desperately wanted to refuse her father's arrangement, but reality forced her to compromise.

Lin Ya knew that her father was a traditional man who had always valued career and achievement above all else. Perhaps it was because of his own hard work in his youth that he was so eager for his daughter to find an "excellent" partner.

She decided to go to the appointment first, and then figure out a way to break free from her father's control. She checked the time, got up, and began preparing. Before leaving, she hesitated for a moment, but ultimately put on the ring Xu Hao had given her.

Lin Ya wiped away her tears and forced herself to calm down. Suddenly, an idea struck her.

The scene shifts to Zhongtian International, in a luxurious office.

Shi Shaowei was sitting in his office, holding a phone, his face full of reluctance.

"Director Zheng, is it really okay if we don't go? I swore an oath that I would have no home until the supernatural is destroyed!" Shi Shaowei was practically begging.

Zheng Jinqiang's impatient voice came from the other end of the phone: "Stop talking nonsense. Do you think I don't know how many turds you've been lying in? Just go when I tell you to!"

"But Chief, I'm really not good at these kinds of situations. Besides, shouldn't our action team be focused on dealing with bizarre incidents?" Shi Shaowei was still making a last-ditch effort.

The voice on the other end of the phone grew even sterner: "Shi Shaowei, listen to me carefully. I've watched that girl grow up since she was a child; her looks, character, and family background are impeccable. If you weren't one of my soldiers, would you have gotten this opportunity?!"

Shi Shaowei on the other end of the phone: "Saying all that, but she's still a widow..."

"Bullshit! Say that again, you little brat! I'll break your legs, you believe me?!" came a roar from the phone.

"What kind of good thing do you think you are? You're such a big shot, your wife still ran away, didn't she? Other people are widowed because of bad luck, but you're divorced because you're a bad person."

“You can’t be unreasonable as a leader! It’s just that our team is busy with work, and we’re away on business trips for months at a time. What decent man’s wife wouldn’t run away then?!” Shi Shaowei said anxiously.

The voice on the other end of the phone turned deep: "I'm not going to waste my breath on you! Listen up, it's 3 PM today, Jin Mao Tower coffee shop. If you dare to be late or mess this up, I'll break your legs!"

Shi Shaowei's face turned deathly pale instantly: "Director, you can't do this to me! I really don't know how to date!"

"Who told you to go dating?" The voice on the phone carried a hint of mockery. "These days, it's all about marriage first, then love. Do you think you're some fresh-out-of-college student? Aren't there mirrors around? Is there any pee in your bladder?"

Shi Shaowei wanted to say something more, but the call had already been disconnected. He leaned back in his chair, feeling utterly unwilling.

"Or maybe we should just go through the motions?" He scratched his head in frustration. "I'd rather deal with ten weirdos than go on a blind date!"

"Sis, you mean you want me to pretend to be your boyfriend and get rid of your blind date?!"

"Yes...yes, if it's inconvenient, then..."

"No, no! I'll do whatever you say, sister!"

At Xu Hao's home, Lin Ya and Xu Hao are chatting.

Lin Ya had made up her mind to have Xu Hao pretend to be her boyfriend. She would play it by ear at the afternoon gathering; if she could get rid of her blind date, everything would be fine; if not, she would have Xu Hao step in. She figured that as long as a normal person saw that she was already taken, they wouldn't cause any trouble.

This isn't some third-rate novel where so many stories have to unfold over a woman you just met.

The blind date is a successful person, so he should have the manners and emotional intelligence to handle this. We can each tell our matchmakers that we don't have any feelings for each other, and that should prevent any trouble.

What a perfect solution!
