Chapter 113 Exploring in the Shadows of the Ghost Forest
After saying that, Su Ming took the lead, slung his backpack over his shoulder, and walked towards the train door. The team members looked at each other, their eyes showing a hint of hesitation, but more so a determination. They followed closely behind Su Ming, got off the train together, and stepped into the mist that surrounded Anta County.
As soon as you enter the mist, a chill hits you, a coldness that seems to penetrate your clothes and seep into your bones. Moreover, the mist has a peculiar magic that makes your vision extremely blurry, with a visible range of only a few meters; beyond that, it's just a chaotic white blur.
Su Ming walked cautiously, gripping his weapon tightly, constantly on guard against any potential dangers. He channeled his inner power, attempting to use his senses to probe the anomaly within the mist, but the mist seemed to interfere with his perception, allowing him to only vaguely sense some indistinct auras, without being able to discern what they were.
"Everyone stay close and don't get separated," Su Ming whispered to his team members, his voice sounding somewhat muffled in the fog.
The team members responded, keeping close together. Baili Pangpang was panting heavily; his massive body moved somewhat clumsily through the mist, but his eyes were resolute, his giant axe ready to strike at any moment. Cao Yuan nimbly weaved through the ranks, keeping an eye on the movements in all directions. An Qingyu followed closely behind, her bow and arrow already nocked, ready to fire at any moment. Hongying's long whip swayed slightly in her hand; her gaze was focused, the previous gloom gone, now filled with the determination to fight.
As they walked, they faintly heard some strange sounds, like someone crying softly, or like some unknown wild beast roaring. The sounds echoed in the mist, sending chills down their spines.
"Everyone be careful, something's up!" Su Ming shouted, raising his voice as he stopped and assumed a defensive stance.
The team members stopped, gripped their weapons, and stood ready for battle. The sound grew closer, and suddenly, several blurry figures rushed out of the mist. Their bodies were twisted, making it impossible to discern their exact appearance; only pairs of eyes emitting a ghostly light and exuding an eerie aura could be seen.
"Attack!" Su Ming gave the order and charged towards the figures, his sword flashing coldly as he thrust it straight at one of them.
Baili Pangpang roared and swung his giant axe, which whistled through the air as he slashed fiercely at the approaching figures. Cao Yuan flashed forward, his dagger thrusting out swiftly and accurately targeting the enemy's vitals. An Qingyu drew her bowstring taut, and arrows shot towards the figures like meteors. Hongying brandished her long whip, which cracked crisply in the air as she lashed out at the charging unidentified creatures.
For a moment, shouts of battle and the clash of weapons mingled together in the mist. These unidentified creatures, though seemingly strange in shape, were gradually driven back and disappeared into the mist thanks to the team's coordinated efforts and fierce attacks.
"Is everyone alright?" Su Ming asked his teammates, panting.
The team members all said they were fine, but after this battle, their expressions were more serious. They knew this was just a small episode in the fog; Anta County was shrouded in this fog, and there must be bigger secrets and more dangerous entities hidden within.
“Let’s keep going. We must find the source of this fog and figure out what exactly happened in Anta County,” Su Ming said firmly, then led the way into the depths of the fog.
Without hesitation, the team members followed him again. In the misty Anta County, they were like a group of adventurers groping in the dark, driven by a belief in protection, moving step by step closer to the truth. Even if an unknown abyss lay ahead, they would never retreat, for they were the Night Watchmen, and protecting the peace of this land was their mission…
Standing before the gate of the Anta County Forestry Bureau, Su Ming gazed up at the slightly worn signboard, a nameless unease rising within him. This forestry bureau, once a vital stronghold protecting this forest, now exuded an aura of desolation. The gate was ajar, the lock rusted, and the surrounding walls were covered in moss and vines, seemingly telling tales of the vicissitudes of time and the desolation of this place.
He took a deep breath, slowly pushed open the heavy door, and went inside first. The hinges creaked and groaned, the sound echoing in the silent air, sending chills down his spine. The yard was overgrown with weeds, and some abandoned tools were scattered haphazardly, indicating that the place had been neglected for a long time.
Su Ming carefully crossed the courtyard and headed towards the house. The house was dimly lit and filled with an old, worn atmosphere. Tables and chairs were overturned, and papers and documents were scattered all over the floor, as if it had once experienced a hasty evacuation or a violent upheaval. He squatted down and picked up a few yellowed papers. The writing on them was blurred, but it could be roughly made out that they were some data about forest patrol records and observations of flora and fauna.
"It seems this place has been abandoned for some time," Su Ming muttered to himself, a hint of doubt in his eyes. He didn't understand why such an important forestry bureau would be suddenly abandoned, and judging from the situation at the scene, it seemed that people left in a great hurry, even in a state of panic.
Putting down the papers, Su Ming continued his investigation. He searched each room meticulously, leaving no corner unchecked, hoping to find some useful clues to explain what had happened. However, apart from some worn-out household items and more documents, he found nothing of value.
After leaving the main building of the forestry bureau, Su Ming arrived at the forest farm. The forest farm was deathly silent; the once lush trees now appeared exceptionally eerie. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, as if whispering some unspeakable secret. Su Ming slowly walked along a narrow path, cautiously observing his surroundings.
"Strange, why is there no one here?" Su Ming wondered to himself. Logically speaking, even if the forest protection bureau was abandoned, there should be some traces of wild animals in the forest, but at this moment, he felt as if he were in a dead zone, without any sign of life.
Just as he was wondering, a soft footstep sound suddenly came from afar. Su Ming immediately stopped, pricked up his ears, and listened carefully to the source of the sound. The footsteps were very light, almost imperceptible, but they were exceptionally clear in the silent forest. He looked in the direction of the sound and saw a blurry figure flash by deep in the Ghost Forest.
