Keyboard Warrior's Otherworldly Adventure
Chapter 50 The Dilemma of Points
After the dazzling light faded, Li Jin felt a powerful force surge through his body. The black tentacles hissed as if scorched by flames and quickly retreated back into the lake. Li Jin regained his freedom, staggered back a few steps, his heart still pounding.
"Holy crap, what is this thing? An octopus demon?" Li Jin cursed, still in shock.
Sophie rushed over, helped Li Jin up, and asked with concern, "Are you alright? Are you hurt?"
Li Jin waved his hand, feigning nonchalance, and said, "It's nothing, a piece of cake. Looks like this system upgrade really works; those tentacles almost dragged me down just now." He looked down at the rune on his chest; the golden light had dimmed, but it still radiated a faint warmth. "This thing is like a power bank now; it can even unleash its full power in crucial moments."
Little White jumped out of Sophie's arms and cautiously walked to the lakeside, craning its little head to look into the lake, as if trying to see what the monster from before was.
"Stop looking, Little White, be careful it doesn't come out again." Sophie picked Little White up and brought it back.
Li Jin gazed at the calm lake surface, lost in thought. The lake appeared tranquil, yet it concealed unknown dangers. Obtaining the treasure on the island in the middle of the lake would likely not be so easy.
"System, what kind of monster is in this lake?" Li Jin asked silently in his mind.
"Ding! Unknown creature detected. Insufficient data, unable to identify," the system coldly replied.
"Damn, it always messes up at the crucial moment," Li Jin couldn't help but complain. "Is there any way to safely reach the island in the middle of the lake?"
"Ding! It is recommended that the host exchange for the 'Water Skimming' skill, which will cost 300 points."
Li Jin checked his points. After upgrading, he had 800 left. After redeeming "Water Skimmer," he would have 500 left, which was barely enough. "Alright, I'll redeem 'Water Skimmer'."
"Ding! Exchange successful, 'Water Skimming' skill activated."
Li Jin walked to the lakeside, took a deep breath, and circulated his internal energy as prompted by the system. He lightly touched the ground with his feet and landed on the water's surface like a feather, without creating a ripple.
"Wow! That's amazing!" Sophie exclaimed in disbelief.
Li Jin smiled smugly, took a few steps on the water, and felt as steady as walking on flat ground. "How about that? Pretty impressive, right? I redeemed this for 300 points."
"300 points..." Sophie muttered to herself, seemingly calculating the value of those points.
Li Jin, leading Sophie and Xiaobai, walked across the water towards the island in the center of the lake. Tiny fluorescent lights floated on the surface, like twinkling stars in the night sky, making the lake appear like a dream.
As they approached the island in the middle of the lake, an ancient and mysterious aura wafted over them. The island was small, and the altar in its center was made of massive black rocks, covered with strange runes that emitted a faint, eerie glow. In the center of the altar sat a gleaming golden treasure chest.
"Treasure! We've finally found it!" Li Jin excitedly ran towards the altar.
Just then, the calm lake surface began to churn again, and huge black tentacles shot out from the water, like giant black pythons, sweeping towards Li Jin and Sophie.
"Damn it! This thing is really never going to stop!" Li Jin quickly pulled Sophie back to avoid the tentacles' attacks.
These tentacles were thicker and stronger than before, each attack accompanied by a whistling sound, sending chills down one's spine. Although Li Jin had leveled up, he was still finding it somewhat difficult to deal with so many tentacles.
"What do we do? There are too many tentacles!" Sophie cried out in panic.
While dodging the tentacles' attacks, Li Jin quickly racked his brains for a solution. "System, is there any way to deal with these tentacles?"
"Ding! A large number of unknown creatures have been detected. It is recommended that the host exchange for 'Thor's Hammer', which will cost 500 points."
"500 points? You might as well rob me!" Li Jin couldn't help but curse, but he knew now wasn't the time to worry about points. "Exchange for 'Thor's Hammer'!"
"Ding! Insufficient points to redeem."
"What?!" Li Jin was stunned. "Didn't I just have 500 points?"
"Ding! The host has already spent 300 points to exchange for the 'Water Walking' skill. There are 200 points remaining, which is not enough to exchange for 'Thor's Hammer'."
Li Jin felt a wave of dizziness and almost fainted. 200 points—what could that buy? Not even a bottle of mineral water! He felt like a gambler stripped naked, trembling before a pack of predatory creditors.
Just then, a tentacle suddenly wrapped around Sophie's waist, lifting her high into the air, about to drag her into the lake...
