Chapter 10 Standoff Before the Misty Forest

Li Jin stared at the four large characters, his face a complex mix of emotions, as if he had swallowed a dead fly. He swallowed hard and asked in a trembling voice, "Senior, is this... is this definitely a method for controlling 'chaotic power,' and not some evil technique?"

Sophie also looked at Wang Xuan with a strange expression. Although she was from another world, she had heard of self-castration, but she never expected it to appear in a cultivation manual.

Wang Xuan blushed and coughed awkwardly a few times before realizing he had taken the wrong manual. He quickly snatched the "Chaos Manual" back from Li Jin, stuffed it back into his pocket, and then took out an identical book and handed it to Li Jin, saying, "Ahem, I took the wrong one just now. This is the real 'Chaos Manual'."

Li Jin took the manual with some skepticism, turned to the first page, and saw four large characters written on it: "The Beginning of Chaos." He breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully, he didn't have to castrate himself.

"This 'Chaos Manual' is divided into nine levels. You've only just begun, so you can only cultivate the first level." Wang Xuan pointed to the text on the manual and began to explain, "The first level is called 'Chaotic Qi,' which mainly involves guiding the chaotic power within your body so that it can be used by you..."

Li Jin listened intently, occasionally asking questions, which Wang Xuan answered one by one. Although Sophie couldn't understand what they were saying, she sat quietly to the side without disturbing them.

After an unknown amount of time, Wang Xuan finally finished his explanation. He looked at Li Jin and said earnestly, "Young man, the power of chaos is a double-edged sword. It can help you achieve great things, or it can lead you to utter ruin. You must use it with caution and never kill innocent people indiscriminately."

"I will keep your teachings in mind, senior." Li Jin nodded respectfully.

"Alright, that's enough for today." Wang Xuan stood up, stretched, and said, "I'm tired too, I'll go back and rest now. You should all go back early as well."

After saying that, Wang Xuan transformed into a streak of light and disappeared into the horizon.

Li Jin and Su Fei also got up to say goodbye and left the quiet valley.

On the way back, Sophie remained silent, seemingly preoccupied. Li Jin noticed her unusual behavior and asked with concern, "Sophie, what's wrong? Is something on your mind?"

Sophie hesitated for a moment before finally speaking, "Li Jin, I... my father sent people to arrest me."

"What?!" Li Jin's expression changed. "Why did he arrest you?"

"Because I ran away," Sophie said softly, her head down. "My father has always wanted to marry me off to the prince of the neighboring country, but I don't want to marry him, so I ran away."

Li Jin then understood what had happened. He looked at Sophie and said earnestly, "Sophie, don't worry, I will definitely protect you and won't let them take you back."

Sophie looked up at Li Jin's determined eyes, a warm feeling welling up inside her. She nodded gently and said, "Thank you, Li Jin."

The two exchanged a smile and continued walking towards the capital. However, they were unaware that danger was closing in.

Shortly after they left, a man in black appeared silently in the valley. He looked in the direction Li Jin and Sophie had gone, a sinister smile playing on his lips, and whispered, "Your Highness, you can't escape."

After saying that, the man in black transformed into a shadow and disappeared into the night.

Upon returning to the capital, Li Jin and Su Fei did not go straight back to the palace, but instead went to a tavern in the city. They needed to discuss their next move.

"Li Jin, what should I do?" Sophie asked with a worried look. "My father will definitely not let me off the hook."

"Don't worry, Sophie," Li Jin comforted her. "Let's hide for a while and talk about it again when things calm down."

"But...where can we hide?" Sophie asked.

Li Jin thought for a moment and said, "We can go to the Misty Forest."

"The Misty Forest?" Sophie asked in surprise. "That's a very dangerous place. It's said to be full of magical beasts."

"I know," Li Jin nodded, "but it's also the safest place, because no one dares to go in easily."

Sophie hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded and said, "Okay, I'll do as you say."

After discussing their plan, the two left the tavern and headed towards the Misty Forest. However, they were stopped as soon as they stepped out of the city gate.

"Your Highness, please wait." A cold voice rang out.

Li Jin and Su Fei turned their heads and saw a man dressed in black with a cold and stern face standing in front of them.

Behind the man in black were dozens of fully armed soldiers.

"Who are you?" Li Jin asked warily.

"I am here on the King's orders to arrest Princess and bring her back to the palace," the man in black said coldly.

Li Jin cursed inwardly; it seemed the king had discovered Sophie's whereabouts. He clenched his fists, preparing to strike.

Just then, Sophie suddenly grabbed his hand, shook her head, and said, "Li Jin, don't be impulsive."

Then, Sophie turned to the man in black and calmly said, "I'll go back with you."
