The Rebirth of Bai Qi: The Way of Qi
Chapter 35 Time and Space Mystery
Bai Qi's consciousness floated seemingly in and out of existence in the dark abyss, before gradually returning to his body.
He opened his eyes and was astonished to find himself in a space-time landscape he had never seen before—he was in a strange space, like a dream, like an illusion shrouded in a thin mist, surrounded by a hazy glow, with a gentle breeze that softly caressed ancient battle flags.
Some of these battle flags seemed familiar to him, while others appeared completely foreign. The patterns on the flags were strange and inexplicable, yet they formed a picture scroll in themselves.
Surrounded by such a bizarre space, he was momentarily bewildered, yet a voice within him told him that while this place was not real, it was also beyond his expectations—it seemed as if his footprints had once trod this path, and every scene he saw seemed to be telling some elusive message.
Not far away, several figures darted swiftly through the dust, clad in armor and wielding long swords, their movements as agile as the wind.
In that instant, Bai Qi seemed to see himself on the battlefield of yesteryear. He was still there with the thunderous aura of the fierce battle, surrounded by the neighing of warhorses and the clamor of voices.
Before he could grasp the emptiness of everything, he seemed to have entered an ancient battlefield, filled with the dust of travel and the fierce fighting spirit, surrounded by the glorious splendor of the Qin Dynasty.
"Where is this?" The unspoken question lingered in his mind.
He reached out, wanting to touch the seemingly real atmosphere, but it vanished as soon as he touched it.
He suddenly realized that this was not the reality before his eyes, but a manifestation of consciousness.
"Bai Qi!" A familiar and stirring voice woke him up. Bai Qi looked in the direction of the voice and saw that the figure in front of him was his former comrade-in-arms, Shan Yong.
His resolute, iron-like face appeared exceptionally firm under the sunlight. Amidst the shifting light and shadow, Shan Yong charged towards him with his sword drawn, his face displaying an unbelievable radiance.
"How have you been, General Bai?" Shan Yong smiled slightly, a smile that carried the boldness of the past. Having known Bai Qi for many years, he knew at least clearly that the contradictions in the person in front of him were like a locked riverbed. "Isn't this a battlefield?"
Why does your heart always linger here?
"Shan Yong?" Bai Qi was surprised, his expression naturally complicated. He recalled the various misfortunes he had encountered in the past years, and he couldn't help but shed tears again. Shan Yong was a good friend who had fought alongside him countless times, but he had been buried forever on the battlefield in a certain battle.
Meeting in this illusion may simply be the result of a mental shackle that one has never been able to untie.
Before I could answer, a gust of wind suddenly arose, and the surrounding scenery changed unpredictably, making the entire space seem even more vast and surreal.
Amidst the whistling wind, another voice seemed to come from afar, echoing in my ears, its eerie sound piercing my very soul—as if countless shadows were quietly lingering in the air, attempting to convey secrets that could not be outwardly revealed.
"Life is like an illusion, and illusion is reality. Bai Qi, have you ever thought of the past..."
The sound did not originate from any object, yet it was clearly discernible, seemingly connecting every image and leaving behind a profound intention.
Bai Qi composed himself. Stimulated by the voice, he instinctively sensed an unusual state of being, yet he still felt a melancholy and confusion that words could not describe.
He had a vague premonition that everything in this alien space was not accidental; it was both a part of the trial and an invisible bridge between the past and the future, hiding countless mysteries.
"And who are you?" Bai Qi stood there, his gaze fixed firmly on the voice coming from the void. Although the voice was illusory, it contained an inexplicable power.
He harbored doubts, yet his resolve only grew stronger, unconsciously reinforcing his belief—perhaps this illusion was not an enemy, but its hidden clues were certainly closely related to his future fate.
Amidst the turbulent winds and clouds, a thunderous roar seemed to echo in Bai Qi's heart. He recalled all his experiences in life, his bravery, his courage, and his bloody battles.
The Qi Refining Power within him stirred restlessly, and he sensed a long-lost familiarity. The fighting spirit deep within his soul was rekindled, as awe-inspiring as ever.
Just then, another figure appeared before him. It was Situ Yan. She was still as charming and graceful as a flower, but with a touch of mystery she had never seen before. She stood behind him, and a deep and melodious folk song rang in his ears.
Situ Yan landed with a light and graceful movement, her long sleeves languidly dancing in the air. Her expression was as elegant and serene as ever. Her singing seemed to contain some kind of dissection of fate, like a wronged ghost whispering under an oil lamp. Even in its indifference, it inspired awe.
"Did you also hear those sounds?" Situ Yan's voice was as soft as drifting wisps of smoke as she asked.
Bai Qi's expression was solemn as he sighed softly, "Those secrets hidden in the void, as long as they remain in the body, are chains that they have never broken, and the key to unlocking them lies only in the heart."
Situ Yan nodded, then lowered her eyes, as if she had already understood.
Her singing gradually stopped, and her graceful figure melted into the space like floating smoke. This mysterious posture foreshadowed that Bai Qi was experiencing a powerlessness beyond the senses.
Bai Qi was about to carefully analyze its meaning when, unexpected changes occurred around him. As if he were being pushed by something, the chaotic spacetime passage suddenly made a sound, and the sound waves dispersed the closed fog, revealing the images of the sun that existed in the void one by one.
A female general dressed in white, as white as snow, held a bowstring in her hand. Her agile nature allowed her to drift through the air, and her litheness was like that of an eagle soaring. She was indeed her friend Han Fu.
Her fearful face signified her unwavering loyalty before she drew her bow and shot into the boundless sky.
Bai Qi clearly saw the other person's eyes sparkling with starlight, meeting the silent arrow in an instant, as if piercing through the barrier of time and reaching the deepest part of his heart.
He knew that the fantasy was revealing this memory, but he just wanted to peel it back to reveal the truth.
The passageways change, and time flows silently; they may not be as powerful as the pain between life and death, but they are the great righteousness that he must personally face and resolve.
Surrounded by an endless labyrinth of time and space, Bai Qi seeks the meaning within these changes, searching for clues among the running shadows in order to reveal the true message that the departed wished to convey.
These figures, silent and still, left behind the footprints of travelers in the intertwining of time and space.
A belief was empowering his steps; Bai Qi's stride was firm, and a phantom lay ahead. Perhaps this was not merely an echo of passing time, but some unspeakable power hidden in the past was gradually unfolding.
“This is a cycle, an eternal reincarnation…” Bai Qi seemed to have an epiphany. His thoughts surged like uncontrollable waves, and the memories and Qi-refining experience he had gradually accumulated over the decades also converged into a state that was close to enlightenment.
As the images overlapped, he once again relied on his intuition to pierce through the constraints behind the past, and all his thoughts and sights vanished in an instant.
He sensed a larger frame seemingly emerging from nothingness.
“There is real text here that can be deciphered, rather than just a jumble of memories.”
Bai Qi murmured to himself. At the same time, he took a slight step and felt his center of gravity shift suddenly. There were no more unexpected changes. Everything around him shattered like a mirror, immediately revealing a vast and open new landscape.
He was completely absorbed in it, unable to extricate himself; this was an unprecedented understanding, and it opened up a new journey ahead.
In any case, he must now truly unravel this mystery in order to achieve true freedom of mind.
