The Walking Dead: I Sell Arms as a Sixth-Rate Seller in the Apocalypse
Chapter 32 The Crimson Moon: Nathan Drake and Anna
Late night
East Side of Atlanta
Herschel was sitting on two pickup trucks with a gun barrel pointed at his head.
At that moment, voices could be heard.
"Wow, look who these are! Two more lone survivors. Looks like we're in luck today."
At that moment, a voice that sounded like a young man's rang out behind Herschel.
"Hey, Karas, don't scare people."
At this moment, a more mature male voice rang out, but the person who initiated the voice was also pointing a dark gun barrel at Audis's head.
"Hahaha, Drake, you're still so cautious. Don't worry, I won't kill them here. Let's take them back to the boss for him to decide."
After the man named Karas finished speaking, the man named Drake sat in the passenger seat of the two pickup truck and pointed the dark barrel of his gun at Audis's head, saying, "Mr. Hostage, start the car now and follow the directions I give you. If you dare to have any bad intentions, I will not hesitate to blow your head off with this gun."
Upon hearing this, Audis felt a chill run down his spine. He had never been threatened with a gun to his head before, but now he was experiencing it.
Seeing this, Audis hurriedly said, "Sir, please don't shoot! I'll do whatever you say, I promise I won't move! Please don't shoot!"
At this moment, Audis was like a little lamb caught by a big bad wolf, terrified.
The man named Drake said, "Don't worry, we only want your supplies and won't hurt you, on the condition that you come back with me to meet our boss. But if you dare to have any disloyal thoughts, don't blame me for being ruthless."
When Herschel heard what the man named Drake said, he felt a weight lifted off his shoulders. At least he had learned important information from Drake: their boss might release Audis and himself as long as the supplies didn't harm them.
Thinking of this, Herschel said to Audis, "Audis, just listen to this gentleman and do whatever he says."
Upon hearing this, Audis said, "But Mr. Herschel, aren't we going to the government shelter in the north of the city? If we give everything to them, we'll be with the little..."
Before Audis could finish speaking, Herschel interrupted him, saying, "Audis! Don't be foolish! We'll do whatever this gentleman says, or you want to get me killed?"
Upon hearing this, Audis fell silent and continued on the road indicated by Drake, who was sitting in the passenger seat.
However, at that moment, Drake's walkie-talkie, which was between him and Karas, rang.
Walkie-talkie: "Karas, Drake, where have you two been gallivanting off to again?"
Upon hearing this, Karas picked up the walkie-talkie and said, "Baker, we found two incredibly fat game animals at the hunting grounds on the outskirts of the East District, and we're driving back now."
Upon hearing this, the man named Baker on the walkie-talkie said, "Very good. The supplies at home are almost used up, and we urgently need the supplies you brought. I will tell the boss about this when he gets back. You two come back immediately."
Drake asked, "Baker, how is my daughter? Has her fever gone down?"
Baker said over the walkie-talkie, "No, Baker, Anna's situation is complicated. David is taking care of her, but there's nothing left in the camp. Anna's condition can't be delayed; we must find a doctor and medicine as soon as possible."
Upon hearing this, Drake said anxiously, "Baker, are there no medicines left in the camp? I remember I just brought back a bottle of medicine this morning."
Baker on the walkie-talkie: "Drake, the medicine you brought back is completely ineffective, and what's inside isn't medicine at all, it's sleeping pills disguised as anti-inflammatory drugs."
Drake exclaimed in horror, "What?! Sleeping pills? Damn it? So, the pill Anna took was a sleeping pill?"
Baker on the walkie-talkie: "Unfortunately, yes, Drake, Anna took sleeping pills and is still asleep with no signs of waking up."
After listening to the conversation between the two men on the walkie-talkie, Herschel roughly understood what was going on. He calmed down and thought for a moment before saying to Drake in the passenger seat, "Mr. Drake, I used to be a veterinarian. If you don't mind, I can examine your daughter after we get back together."
Upon hearing Herschel's words, Drake, sitting in the passenger seat, had a gleam in his eyes. He immediately put down his gun and said to Herschel in the truck bed, "Really? You're really a doctor?"
“It’s a veterinarian, Mr. Drake,” Herschel interrupted Drake, adding.
Drake's expression fell again upon hearing this. After all, humans are different from animals. His daughter had been feeling unwell since the morning, then vomited and had diarrhea. He had no idea what was wrong. In fact, after she took the sleeping pills that he had found and put in the anti-inflammatory medicine, she started to have a fever.
Seeing Drake's disappointed expression, Herschel said again, "However, Mr. Drake, don't worry. Although I am a veterinarian, I treat most of the employees I hire on my farm when they get sick. While I can't guarantee I can save your daughter, I believe I can cure her unless it's a rare or complicated illness."
Drake's eyes lit up with hope again upon hearing this, and he said, "Really? If you can really cure my daughter, I guarantee you and this driver will leave safely."
Upon hearing this, Herschel said to Karas, who was pointing a gun at his head, "Mr. Karas, could you put down your gun? Don't worry, I won't run away until I see Mr. Drake's daughter."
Drake said, "Alright, Karas, now that this veterinarian has spoken, put the gun down."
Upon hearing this, Karas scoffed and put away his weapon.
Herschel said to Audis, "Audes, drive faster, we need to see the child quickly."
Drake pointed to a small shopping mall not far ahead and said, "It's just past the Madison Outdoor Store. The apartment building next to that small shopping mall is it."
tens of seconds later
Audis drove up to the street in front of the Madison Outdoor Store.
At this moment, Herschel had no idea that this was the place Rick had traveled from, and also the first shop Rick had looted.
Audis parked the car.
Two figures approached them. Drake and Karas, seeing this, beckoned the two to come and unload the supplies from the truck.
Drake, on the other hand, went to the alley next to the apartment with Herschel, and the two of them walked up the fire escape stairs to the 5th floor.
The two climbed through the window into a bedroom.
There were two single beds in the bedroom. On one of them lay a beautiful young woman with brown hair and a pale complexion. This woman was Drake's daughter, Anna.
Upon seeing Anna's appearance, Herschel realized that the sleeping girl in front of him was Drake's daughter, Anna. Herschel took out a flashlight and examined Anna's eyes before proceeding to check her over.
After a few minutes
Herschel said to Anna's father, Drake, "Your daughter is fine. She just had acute gastroenteritis, which caused the vomiting and diarrhea. She was also frightened afterward, which is why she has a fever. As for the sleeping pills, don't worry about them. They'll wear off once they've worn off. Find some medicine for acute gastroenteritis and some antibiotics for her to take. Her fever should break by tomorrow."
Hearing Herschel's words, Drake breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Thanks, Doctor. I really don't know what I would have done without you."
Herschel waved his hand and said, "It's alright, Mr. Drake. As a father myself, I understand. I also have a daughter about Anna's age."
Drake remarked, "It seems only two fathers can truly understand each other, veterinarian."
Herschel: "My name is Herschel Green, and I own Green Farm, which is located 15 kilometers south of Atlanta."
Upon hearing this, Drake said, "Nathan Drake, I used to be an explorer. If I hadn't found Anna, I don't know where I would be continuing my explorations right now."
Herschel was shocked and exclaimed, "What? You're that famous explorer Nathan Drake?"
Drake: "I wouldn't call myself famous, but if you're looking for an explorer named Drake, I reckon I'm the only one with that name."
Herschel laughed and said, "Mr. Drake, you flatter me. My daughter Beth loves listening to your adventure stories, especially the book called 'Uncharted,' which is her favorite."
Drake: "Really? So Mr. Herschel's daughter is a fan of my books."
Herschel: "Yes, Mr. Drake, when my daughter Beth heard that you were no longer going out to sea for adventures, she was very angry and said that you had lost the spirit of an explorer."
Drake said helplessly, "There's nothing I can do. I'm getting old, and my physical abilities aren't what they used to be. I used to be able to face a dozen mercenaries without being at a disadvantage, but now I can only run away when I'm facing a bunch of brainless zombie idiots."
Herschel thought for a moment and asked, "Mr. Drake, why don't you and your daughter go to the shelter in the North Side of Atlanta? I heard that the shelter there was built by the local government and the National Guard."
Drake immediately said, "To be honest, Anna and I escaped from there. Now it's probably a zombie paradise."
Herschel was shocked when she heard this and said, "What did you say? You escaped from there? What happened? I was planning to go to that place with my daughters."
Drake said, “I don’t know. I was just taking my daughter to Atlanta for a trip. But when the apocalypse happened and people started eating each other, my daughter and I were taken by the local National Guard to a shelter converted from a prison in the North District. But just three weeks ago, a zombie outbreak occurred inside that shelter, and there was even a gunfight over weapons. I took advantage of the chaos and ran away with Anna. Then we met Karas, Baker, David and their gang, as well as our boss, a strong woman from Russia, Natasha.”
Drake asked, as if he had just remembered something, "Mr. Herschel, where are your daughters? Why aren't they with you?"
Upon hearing Drake's words, Herschel seemed to suddenly remember something important and said, "Damn it! I completely forgot! Mr. Drake, my daughters are still waiting for me and Audis to return at the entrance outside the East End. If we don't get back on time, she and her sister will drive to the North End of Atlanta to find the refuge you escaped from!"
Drake seemed to have thought of something and said, "Mr. Herschel, I'll go with you. The northern part of Atlanta is very dangerous right now. As you can see, ever since that blood-red full moon appeared in the night sky, the zombies have become extremely violent. In fact, for some unknown reason, all the zombies are now heading towards populated areas. Even though we recently had a battle here and lost several people, our leader Natasha is now leading the zombies around the city alone for our safety."
Herschel, even more anxious upon hearing this, said to Drake, "We must hurry over there. If we delay any longer, my daughters will really go to the North District to look for that lost shelter."
Drake nodded, then said, "Okay, take my car."
Herschel and Drake went downstairs, got into a red Ford Mustang, and drove towards Atlanta's East Side.
