Chapter 28 The Crimson Full Moon at Herschel Glen Farm
夜晚
Blood-red full moon
Herschel Green Farm
The sound of zombies frantically banging on the door came from the barn not far from Herschel's house.
At this moment, Beth and Herschel stood on their white house, staring in the direction of the barn.
Beth hugged the elderly Herschel with a look of horror and said, "Dad! Why are Mom and my brother so sick today?"
Herschel: "It's alright, baby. Your mother and brother are just sick. I'll bring them some food later." Herschel was comforting her little daughter with a kind expression.
He looked up and stared at the blood-red full moon in the night sky, his brows furrowing involuntarily.
She kissed Beth on the forehead and said, "Beth, my good daughter, listen to your father. Go to sleep first. Everything will be alright when you wake up. Your mother and brother are probably hungry. I'll go and bring them some food."
Hearing Herschel's words, Beth nodded and said, "Dad, be careful. I have a bad feeling about this..."
Before Beth could finish speaking, Herschel interrupted, "Beth! Listen to me, stop overthinking. Those are your mother and your brother. They won't hurt me. I'll come back to you after I deliver the food."
Beth was about to say something, but upon hearing Herschel's words, she shut her mouth, lay down on the bed, and obediently closed her eyes.
Before leaving, Herschel closed Beth's door, went to the kitchen, took out two large, sealed steaks with blood still on them from the refrigerator, opened his front door, and headed toward the barn.
outside the barn
Herschel watched as his wife, son, and other patients inside frantically pounded on the barn door, which looked as if it would be smashed to pieces at any moment.
Looking at the rickety barn door, Herschel knew that if they kept pounding on it like this, the door wouldn't be broken for long. Thinking of this,
Herschel climbed toward the haystacks piled up next to the barn.
Just as Herschel’s gaze left the barn door, a clearly visible crack appeared on the barn door bolt.
Herschel climbed up the haystack to the second-floor window of the barn. At that moment, the howling of zombies echoed from inside the barn. Pairs of blood-red eyes wandered around inside. When Herschel reached the second floor, the blood-red eyes on the ground immediately spotted her and stretched out their arms to grab at her.
Herschel looked at his wife and son and murmured, "Josephine, my wife, Arnold, my son, I have come. I know you are very sick and very hungry. I have come to bring you meat."
As she spoke, Herschel tore open the sealed bag, and the stench of blood emanating from it instantly reached the noses of the zombies below. Upon smelling it, the zombies below instantly became ferocious and warlike. The sound of the zombies banging on the door grew louder, and even the entire barn was shaken by the banging.
Seeing this, Herschel simply threw the steak he was holding down below.
Upon seeing the steaks Herschel threw out, the zombie horde pounced on them and fought over them. In less than a few seconds, the two steaks were devoured.
After the zombies finished devouring the blood-stained steak, they glared with bloodshot eyes and continued to reach for Herschel on the second floor, whose face looked even more grim than before.
Upon seeing this, Herschel walked directly from the second-floor window past the haystack on the ground and then returned to the ground. Herschel's previously numb heart was once again terrified by the bloody scene.
He had never seen his son and wife so frantic. He looked up at the blood-red full moon overhead and thought about the blood-red eyes of his son and wife just now. He felt that his wife and son's state must be related to the blood-red full moon overhead.
With that thought in mind, Herschel left the barn without looking back and headed towards his little white house.
What Herschel didn't notice was that the bolt on the barn door was about to break from the constant banging.
tens of seconds later
Herschel returned home and closed the door. He then saw a woman in a woman's nightgown come downstairs. The woman in the nightgown said to Herschel, "Dad, how are Mom and my brother? You don't look too well."
Hearing the man's question, Herschel said, "Maggie, why aren't you asleep yet? This isn't like you, who usually goes to bed early and gets up early."
Hearing what Herschel said downstairs, Maggie, still in her pajamas, said, "Dad, I can't sleep. I have a feeling something bad will happen tonight. I even had a nightmare where you, Beth, Jimmy, and the Audis were eaten by Mom and my brother who rushed out of the barn."
Hearing Maggie's words, Herschel frowned and said to Maggie, "Maggie! How many times have I told you, your mother and your brother are just sick. They won't hurt us, much less eat us. Stop spreading rumors all the time, do you understand?"
Upon hearing Herschel's words, Maggie came down the stairs, pulled Herschel to sit on her sofa, and said, "But that dream felt so real. In my dream, my mother and brother climbed in through this window and ate the Audis, and then they ate you right here on this sofa."
Hearing her daughter's words, Herschel smiled kindly, then patted Maggie on the shoulder and said, "Child, you're too tired. This is just a nightmare. Since it's a nightmare, it may not happen. If you really can't sleep, I'll sit here with you until dawn."
"Dad, sister, I can't sleep. Can I join you?" Beth came down from the second floor to the first floor at this moment.
When Herschel saw that Beth had also arrived, he said to her, "Of course, honey, you can stay here with me and your sister."
Just then, the barn door bolt finally broke under the weight of the repeated blows from the zombies, and several zombies came out of the barn.
After spotting a faint light coming from a white house not far away, the zombies with bloodshot eyes staggered toward it.
Unaware of the threat, the three continued to talk about the past on the sofa. Herschel recounted to his two daughters the amusing stories of his childhood on his grandfather's farm, and even how his father had bravely fought the Germans during the Normandy landings.
“Yes, your father was a truly remarkable soldier,” said Patricia, the wife of Audis, who had been drawn by the voice.
Upon hearing Patricia speak, Herschel said, "What's wrong, Patricia? Can't you sleep either?"
“Not only can’t she sleep, but I can’t sleep either, Mr. Herschel,” said Audis, who appeared behind Patricia.
Seeing that everyone except Jimmy had arrived, Herschel said helplessly, "Since everyone is having trouble sleeping, I'll tell you all about my father's retirement and subsequent takeover of the Green family farm."
Audis said, "Mr. Herschel, it's not enough to just talk. You need some snacks and tea to make your story more interesting."
Upon hearing this, Herschel laughed and said to Audis, "Haha, Audis, you're right. How can we hear this story without some tea and snacks?"
At this point, Patricia volunteered, saying, "Sir, I'll go prepare some tea and snacks."
Herschel nodded to Patricia upon hearing this.
Seeing this, Patricia went towards the kitchen.
Just then, the zombies in the barn arrived at the kitchen of the white house.
Patricia was completely unaware that a zombie was hiding under the window. When she heard the noise below, she leaned out of the window and exclaimed, "Who's out there? Huh? Are you Josephine, Mr. Herschel's wife? What are you doing here... Ughhhhhh!"
Suddenly, Patricia's screams echoed from the room.
Everyone in the living room heard the scream. Beth, who had better hearing, even heard Patricia mention her mother.
She said to Herschel, "Dad, that scream came from Aunt Patricia. I even heard her mention Mom before I heard her scream!"
Herschel was shocked upon hearing this: He jumped to his feet and shouted to everyone, "Maggie! Quick! Take your sister upstairs! Lock the door and don't come out!"
Then he said to Audis, "Audis! Bring me my hunting rifle! Quickly! Quickly! Quickly!"
Audis, who had been stunned by his wife's screams, snapped back to reality when he heard Herschel's shout and immediately replied, "Yes, sir!"
After speaking, Audis walked towards the shotgun rack where the Remington M870 was placed, picked up the shotgun, and handed it to Herschel.
Audis followed behind Herschel, who walked step by step toward the kitchen, holding a shotgun.
When the two arrived in the kitchen, they witnessed a shocking scene: Audis' wife, Patricia, was being devoured by Herschel's second wife, Josephine Green, with blood and organs everywhere, making the scene extremely gruesome.
Upon seeing his wife Josephine, now a zombie-like cannibal, Audis walked up to her and roared, "Mrs. Josephine, why did you eat my wife Patricia? What did she do wrong? Why did you kill her!"
Hearing Audis's roar: "Another zombie has crawled into the kitchen. This time, Herschel and Audis both know this zombie. It's Josephine's son and also Herschel's son, Arnold Green, who has become a zombie."
At this moment, Arnold and Josephine, mother and son, both stood up, staring at Audis with their red eyes, and walked towards Audis with their arms raised.
