The Walking Dead: I Sell Arms as a Sixth-Rate Seller in the Apocalypse
Chapter 19 I, Rick, am the boss! Who agrees? Who disagrees?
Abandoned quarry camp
in the afternoon
Seeing Sean lying unconscious on the ground, Rick turned to the group and said, "From now on, I will take over the abandoned quarry camp. From now on, I am your new boss."
After Rick finished speaking, the camp erupted in whispers. Everyone was talking amongst themselves, including Glenn's scavenging team. Everyone in them, except Marvin, had witnessed Rick knocking Sean unconscious with a single blow. If you were to ask who was the strongest in the entire abandoned quarry camp, without a doubt, everyone would say it was Sean Wales. Although Sean wasn't a qualified leader, he was undoubtedly the strongest in the abandoned quarry camp. So far, with Sean around, no member had died. Plus, Sean was a police officer before the apocalypse, so subconsciously everyone considered him the leader. That changed when the Dixon brothers appeared. These two didn't get along with Sean, and their tents were located on the outermost edge of the camp. Sean couldn't control them, which annoyed him. But every time the two returned from hunting, they would share some of the game with everyone in the camp. After that, Sean stopped saying anything and let them be.
Rick didn't stop the whispers from the crowd. After all, it happened so suddenly that many people in the camp didn't know him. Apart from Glenn's squad, only Grimes and Marvin knew him.
Thinking this through, Rick addressed the group again: "I'm not discussing this with you, I'm informing you that I, Rick, am going to be the boss. Who agrees? Who disagrees?"
"I object!" At this moment, a discordant voice rang out, and everyone stopped their discussion and searched the crowd for the source of the discordant voice. Just then, a young man walked out of the jungle on the outskirts of the camp. He was carrying two rabbits and two squirrels in his left hand and a hunting crossbow in his right hand, and he walked in with a nonchalant and arrogant gait.
Rick looked out of the camp and immediately spotted the young man. Rick recognized him instantly; this was Daryl Dixon, the last member of his squad and the younger brother of Mor Dixon.
At that moment, Mo'er also saw that familiar figure, which was none other than his short-tempered little brother.
At this moment, Moore's face turned pale. Although he had only spent six hours with Rick, he knew Rick's methods well. Moreover, Rick planned to take in his brother as well, and even give Daryl a set of equipment that was better than his own. For this, Moore was very grateful to Rick. He knew very well that Rick valued his brother very much. However, Moore also knew his brother's character. Although he was not as easily angered as he was, his temper had inherited the consistent characteristics of the Dixon family.
Thinking of this, Moore turned to Rick and said, "Boss, my brother..."
“That’s enough, Moore, you don’t need to say anything more,” Rick raised his hand to interrupt Moore.
Moore: "But, he..."
“Shut up! Moore! I told you to shut up, and you have to shut up. You can’t make a sound, understand?” Rick said fiercely to Moore.
Rick added, "Since you disobeyed my orders this time, the bottle of coffee candy I promised you is void!"
Moore's face instantly darkened when he heard Rick's words. He knew how important that bottle of coffee candy was to him, especially when he was in a bad mood. He would put one in his mouth, and the candy would dissolve very slowly. When he held it in his mouth, Moore's restless emotions were gradually soothed. He even felt that holding this candy was more comfortable than holding flour.
Thinking of this, Moore's face turned ashen, and he said, "I'm sorry, boss, this is the last time. It won't happen again."
Hearing Moore's statement, Rick nodded at him with satisfaction, then turned to Daryl in the distance and said, "Oh? So you're the one who doesn't respect me?"
Upon hearing Rick's words, Daryl raised his head and replied to Rick with an arrogant expression, "That's right, it's me, Daryl Dixon, I disagree!"
Rick, seeing Daryl like this, didn't get angry and said, "Daryl Dixon, is that right? Tell me, Mr. Dixon, what will it take for you to accept me as the leader of the entire camp?"
Daryl said, “You’re an outsider. You just arrived and immediately told everyone that you want to be our leader. As the saying goes, a leader needs to be respected. If you want to be the leader, then let us see if you are qualified to be our leader. Although you knocked Sean unconscious with one blow, that only shows that you are very strong, but it does not prove that you are suitable to be the leader. A true leader has strength as one aspect, and the other is to contribute to the team.”
After saying that, Daryl picked up the prey he had hunted and waved it in front of everyone, saying, "This is the contribution I can make to the team. I can't say anything else, but at least with me here, the people in the team won't go hungry!"
Upon hearing Daryl's words, the crowd began to whisper again, with many agreeing with Daryl and voiced their support.
Rick understood that to become the leader here, one not only needed to be the strongest, but also needed to contribute to the team. Although he could force the people here to acknowledge his leadership through force, doing so would only lose their support.
Thinking of this, Rick said to Daryl, "How about this, Mr. Dixon, before the competition, you and I make a bet?"
Daryl, upon hearing this, said, "You tell me first."
Rick: "The bet is simple, just like the one I made with Shane."
Daryl rolled his eyes at Rick and said, "Oh, I saw the power of your attack just now. Do you think I'd be stupid enough to let you use the same trick again?"
Rick laughed upon hearing this, "Ha, you misunderstood. I'm not betting with you on that. I mean, the conditions I set for Sean also apply to you. If I win, you'll become my subordinate unconditionally, just like your brother did."
Rick turned to Moore and said, "Moore, do you agree?"
Although Moore looked unwell, he still said to Rick, "Boss, whatever you say goes. I, Moore Dixon, only listen to you."
Rick nodded in satisfaction at Moore's words, then turned to Daryl and said, "Well? Mr. Dixon, your brother, Moore Dixon, agrees with what I said. Do you agree?"
Daryl also saw Moore operating the M2HB heavy machine gun on the tactical MTVR truck. Moore was now wearing an army combat uniform, and he looked completely different from the drug addict he had been before.
However, when Daryl heard his cheap, bastard brother call the man in front of him "boss," his expression turned ferocious, and he roared at Moore, "Bastard Moore! You became this man's subordinate without even consulting me! Do you consider me family, you damn brother!"
Upon hearing Daryl's words, Moore fell into a brief silence, then straightened his combat uniform and said to Daryl below, "My foolish little brother! (Sorry for the mistake), Daryl, if you're still my brother, you'll listen to me and not go against Mr. Rick. You're no match for him. Besides, if it weren't for Mr. Rick, Glenn and I would have died in that damned department store long ago."
Upon hearing what Moore said, not only Daryl was stunned, but everyone else was also taken aback for a moment, and then began to whisper among themselves.
Daryl, his eyes no longer filled with hostility as he looked at Rick, said, "Mr. Rick, I am very grateful that you saved my bastard brother. In return, I agree to become your subordinate."
Hearing Daryl's words, Rick breathed a sigh of relief. He wasn't afraid of losing to Daryl; he was worried about not having enough time. According to the original plot, a large number of zombies would attack the camp tomorrow night. One day was simply not enough time to build up the limited defenses. In addition, the people in the camp were used to being lazy and had no sense of crisis. If they didn't hurry, by tomorrow night, the camp would definitely be reduced to only a small fraction of its original inhabitants.
Seeing this group of people in front of him, Rick felt a headache coming on. It wasn't that he wanted to be a saint and do-gooder; it was because he had received a system mission after leading the group to the camp.
[Ding! Congratulations, host, for completing the main quest phase "Help the entire protagonist group evacuate from downtown Atlanta"]
[Ding! Phase-one main quest reward: Special Character Recruitment Ticket x1 (can specify a special character to recruit) has been issued to the system space. The host can retrieve it from the system space at any time.]
[Ding! Main quest issued: Become the leader of the abandoned quarry camp. Advanced quest: Lead everyone in the abandoned quarry camp safely through tomorrow night's zombie horde attack.]
[Main Quest Reward: Upgraded Loyalty Display Function (allows viewing of all players' loyalty and hostility towards the host). Advanced Quest Reward: Base Construction and Development System Binds to the Host]
Rick's eyes widened when he saw the mission and rewards released by the system. He knew exactly what these rewards represented. His camp would grow larger and larger, but there would inevitably be hostile forces or people with ill intentions who would feign allegiance to the camp. The loyalty system could only see the loyalty values of people like Moore and Andrea, and their values were all 100. Therefore, Rick wasn't worried about these people betraying him at all. Once the value reached 100, it meant that this group had completely become his loyal followers. Even if Rick shot and killed two of them and raised his gun to aim at the other one, the person being aimed at wouldn't react at all.
With this in mind, Rick decided that in the future, he would never develop his power by relying on numbers like the protagonists in other novels. He would take a streamlined approach, keeping only the elite of the elite, and ensuring that their loyalty to him was 100%.
Rick climbed onto the tactical MTVR and shouted to the men below, "Alright, now that Daryl Dixon has joined me and become my subordinate, I will absolutely treat him as one of my own. The same goes for everyone else. As long as you sincerely follow me and can prove your worth, you will receive the equipment I reward you with, just like Andrea, Morales, and Moore. Wearing standard military combat uniforms and wielding standard military weapons, you will protect your families and our camp!"
After hearing Rick's words, the crowd erupted in excitement, especially upon hearing that becoming Rick's subordinate would grant them military-grade weapons and equipment. Many men in the camp noticed that Moore and Andrea were dressed and armed with weapons far superior to their own, and some didn't even have guns.
The women saw hope. They spent their days washing clothes, cooking, and serving the men. Apart from some of the elderly and infirm, the rest of them were young. When they saw their good friend Andrea wearing a women's military combat uniform, they were incredibly envious. Especially when they saw the AR-15 in Andrea's hand, they understood that once they had such a weapon, they would no longer be disliked by their boyfriends, husbands, or families, and they would no longer be the weaklings who needed to be protected.
After thinking about this, the women, just like the men, began to rub their hands together and cheer themselves on.
Seeing that the atmosphere was just right, Rick shouted to the crowd, "I, Rick, am the boss! Who agrees? Who disagrees?"
The crowd below, like frenzied beasts, shouted at those above, "Rick! Rick! Rick!"
Just then, the system voice sounded.
