Harry Potter and the Virtue of Miss Potter

Chapter 4 Dudley's Birthday

The lady sitting next to Wu Mu spoke, and a flood of jumbled memories rushed into Wu Mu's mind.

She felt a wave of dizziness, but quickly recovered. Suddenly, she realized who the lady next to her was. "Aunt Penny?"

"What's the matter?"

Wu Mu thought for a moment, "Today... we're going to the zoo, right? Today is Da... cousin's birthday."

Penny glanced at the square clock with a wooden frame hanging on the wall. "Yes, but I have to go down now to prepare for what's to come."

Wu Mu nodded, but Penny didn't seem to look.

"Vernon! Get down! Don't wake Dudley."

Wu Mu peeked out from the doorway, while Penny knocked hard on the storage room door before entering the living room.

"My brother should be in there." She looked at her pink nightgown and found a light blue oversized T-shirt and white shorts in the closet.

She slowly walked downstairs, recalling her memories before she arrived. She carefully opened the living room door and looked at the living room, which looked just like in the movie, with Vernon sitting and reading the newspaper, and chubby Dudley... It all seemed like a dream.

"Oh! Our little birthday boy is here!" Mrs. Dursley said in a gentle and affectionate tone, bending down slightly and bumping noses with Dudley.

Wu Mu walked slowly, not quite having reacted yet. She slightly curled the corners of her mouth and carefully observed everything around her.

“Happy birthday, son,” Mr. Dursley said, following Mrs. Dursley, with Harry bringing over cookies.

Upon seeing Harry, Mrs. Dursley's face immediately changed. "Go and cook breakfast, and don't burn anything."

“Yes, Aunt Petunia.” Harry went to the stove and began preparing breakfast.

“I hope everything goes well today.” Mrs. Dursley covered Dudley’s eyes with her hand. “This is a big day for our Dudley.” She slowly led Dudley away.

"Hurry up! Give me coffee, boy!" Mr. Dursley, Harry's uncle, gave Harry almost no kind look.

“Yes, Uncle Vernon.” Ha used his thin arms to lift the frying pan and scooped up the freshly cooked steak with a spatula.

"Brother, let me help you." Wu Mu was about to help when Penny stopped him.

"What's the point of helping with such a small matter? You might only make things worse." Mrs. Dursley pressed Wolmer onto the sofa and left.

Wumu knew her aunt wasn't mocking her; she genuinely didn't want her to do any work. She liked Wumu's face, which was almost identical to Lily's. Now, she could always see two conflicting emotions on Penny's face—love and hatred.

Mrs. Dursley removed her hands from Dudley's eyes and patted him. "Isn't that wonderful, my dear?" Dudley opened his eyes and was led to the living room, where his birthday presents were piled up.

Dudley stared at the huge pile of gifts for a while, then turned to Mrs. Dursley and asked, "How many are there in total?"

“Thirty-six, I counted them myself.” Mr. Dursley gestured to Dudley with a slightly smug expression.

“Thirty-six? But there were thirty-seven last year!” Dudley shouted, seemingly very angry.

Harry shook his head at the sight and picked up the water bottle to pour water.

Seeing Dudley's angry expression, Mr. Dursley said, "But some of the gifts are a little bigger than last year's."

“I don’t care how big it is!” Dali continued to shout, undeterred.

Mrs. Dursley quickly patted Dudley's shoulder, half-squatting down to bring her face close to Dudley's. "Okay, okay, as soon as we go out, we'll go buy you two more birthday presents, okay, my little darling?"

Harry glanced at her sideways and shook his head speechlessly. Since Wu Mu had nothing to do, she secretly went to help Harry again.

The two look very alike, both resembling their mother, Lily Potter, though Harry does look more like James than Lily.
