I thrived in the primitive tribe
Chapter 51 A Trip to the Saltwater Lake (1)
After a day of rest, Loya felt that his body and mind had recovered from yesterday's fatigue. The morning sun shone on his face, bringing vitality for the day and brightening his mood. "It's so good to be back in the tribe."
The wounded orc they brought back hadn't woken up yet. Considering the upcoming rainy season, followed by the long and cold cold season, time seemed to be their most precious resource, and every day became extremely valuable.
After discussing with the leader and others, everyone unanimously decided that they could not wait any longer and had to seize the time to prepare for the upcoming cold season.
So, in the following days, after everyone packed their belongings and brought all the food, medicine and other supplies, the salt-hunting team, consisting of Lu Yaoluo and others, embarked on their journey to the salt lake with anticipation and courage for the unknown.
"Lu Yao, how did you persuade the leader?" Luo Ya asked the person beside him, his eyes full of curiosity. He knew that the leader was notoriously stubborn and cautious, and it would be no easy task to change his mind.
"Well, guess~" Lu Yao winked playfully, a smug smile playing on her lips.
The people around them had been listening intently ever since Luo Ya spoke, their attention completely captivated. They too wanted to know how Lu Yao had persuaded their stubborn leader. Hearing Lu Yao's reply only fueled their anxiety; they were as restless as ants on a hot plate, their eager eyes fixed on Lu Yao.
"Hey, Lu Yao, stop keeping us in suspense." One of the impatient team members finally couldn't help but speak up, his voice tinged with a hint of pleading, "We all know you're the best, just tell us how you did it."
"Haha, you guys are really something~" Lu Yao laughed.
"Actually, there's nothing special about it. I just analyzed the current situation with the chief. There are so many things to do in the tribe right now, and the chief can better grasp the overall situation if he stays in the tribe."
While the mission to explore the saltwater lake is indeed crucial for the future development of the entire tribe, it doesn't mean that the chief must personally accompany them. The tribe has many other capable and intelligent warriors who are equally competent and wise enough to undertake this task.
Moreover, this is a rare and valuable opportunity to train and improve the abilities of the tribesmen. The chief has always believed in the fighting power and potential of the tribesmen. He knows that only through continuous practice and training can the tribesmen grow stronger and become the backbone of the tribe's future.
However, just like a mother eagle caring for her eaglets, the leader, though full of love and always wanting to do everything in his power to protect everyone under his wings and shield them from the storms, in doing so also invisibly binds the wings of his people and limits their flight.
Therefore, appropriately relinquishing control and giving the people more trust and support, allowing them to learn and grow through practice, is the better approach for them.
Seeing the admiring looks on everyone's faces, Lu Yao shook her head helplessly.
"Haven't you noticed that the reason you think the leader is so stubborn is because every time you disagree with him, you don't have enough reasons to persuade him, or rather, you don't clearly and thoroughly explain your thoughts to him?"
"It seems so. Whenever I see the leader's disapproving look, I stop talking."
"Yes, me too."
"Yes, yes, I never intended to fully describe my thoughts to the leader."
"See? Actually, the leader isn't a stubborn person. He's just not good at expressing himself. In the future, you can try to share your thoughts with the leader when you offer your opinions. He might agree with your opinions after listening, or he might still reject them. But during the conversation, might you come up with a better solution?"
“Lu Yao, you’re right. We’ll definitely try to communicate with the leader more often in the future.”
"But when I saw the leader's cold and serious face, my legs went weak. I had already used up all my courage just by expressing my opinion. To tell him my thoughts again seemed like asking a beast to do something like that..."
"It's okay, take it slow, it'll get better eventually," Lu Yao comforted her.
As they walked and chatted, they shared anecdotes from their past, their laughter echoing through the deep forest and startling birds into flight. At other times, they offered their opinions on the scenery before them, and the landscape seemed to come alive with their joyful chatter, making the journey much more interesting than a tedious rush.
Time slipped away quietly amidst relaxed and cheerful conversation, the last rays of the sun disappeared below the horizon, and night fell silently.
Looking at the dark forest before them, the group remembered that Lu Yao was still in the group and their safety needed to be ensured. Traveling through the forest at night would be extremely unwise. After a brief discussion, they unanimously decided to stay there for the night and continue their journey the next day.
They found a secluded and relatively safe spot, nestled against a protruding rock, with low bushes in front to block the firelight. They gathered dry branches nearby, built a fire, and ignited the flames with dry grass and twigs.
The fire gradually grew stronger, illuminating every young face. The group sat in a circle, took out the dry rations they had brought, and prepared to enjoy their dinner.
On such a night, time seemed to slow down. The group ate and chatted, discussing tomorrow's itinerary. Considering the wolf pack they had encountered earlier, and unsure if they had left, they decided to be cautious. They planned to send one of their fastest members to scout the area and observe the wolf pack's movements before returning to regroup and discuss their next move. If the wolves were still there, they would need to figure out how to approach the saltwater lake.
Night, like a kind old man, slowly drew its deep curtain, enveloping the entire wilderness in a tranquil and mysterious darkness. The conversations around the campfire gradually became low and indistinct as the night deepened, like whispers from afar, appearing and disappearing intermittently, finally fading into complete silence amidst the chirping of insects and the gentle murmur of the wind.
After traveling for so long, everyone was more or less tired, especially Lu Yao. This was the first time she had walked such a long distance. In order not to hold the team back, she gritted her teeth and persevered. Although she was exhausted and her eyelids were drooping, she still forced herself to stay upright and refused to show any weakness.
Loya noticed Lu Yao's exhaustion, and a hint of heartache flickered in his eyes. Loya and the other team members quickly discussed the night watch order to ensure everyone got enough rest so they could continue their journey with renewed energy the next day.
"Alright, everyone, get some rest now. I'll take the first shift," Loya said to the group. No one said anything; they all found their own quiet corners, some sitting, some lying down, all fast asleep. They wanted to rest early and recharge so they would have the energy to face the unknown challenges tomorrow.
