I thrived in the primitive tribe

Chapter 26 Looking for “treasure”

Lu Yao and Ou Sai were lucky. Ou Sai hadn't gone out hunting today and stayed in the tribe. When he heard that the two wanted to go out for a stroll, he agreed to go with them and protect them.

And so, the three of them left the tribe together. On the way, they met some tribesmen who wanted to leave the tribe and wanted to come along, but considering that Ose was the only orc, they were afraid it would be unsafe and did not agree.

"Lu Yao, what kind of food are you looking for?"

"I don't know either, I'll probably find out when I see it," Lu Yao said with a smile.

The three of them walked aimlessly, not knowing what they were looking for, so they walked very slowly. When they saw a plant they didn't recognize, Lu Yao asked the other two what it was and whether it was edible. When she heard that it wasn't poisonous and that it was edible but didn't taste good, she would pick some and taste it herself to see if she could use it.

Lu Yao felt like she was Shennong tasting hundreds of herbs, except that the ones she ate had already been proven to be non-toxic; she was just there to taste them. Sometimes, when she saw a familiar plant, she would dig it up to see if its roots and stems were the same as the plants she knew.

"In the big forest"

Dig, dig, dig

Dig out the large rhizomes

Small fruits formed

small fruit

It's really, really awful.

The smell of shivering

Not beautiful at all

I kept digging and digging.

Dig out a big fruit

It tasted just as bad.

……

……

......"

The two listened to Lu Yao muttering to herself, not understanding what she was saying, but the tune was quite catchy. Before long, they started humming along too.

So a strange phenomenon occurred in the forest: three people were searching around while humming a strange melody, which startled a bunch of insects that scattered in all directions.

The shaman dug up something that looked like a potato. Lu Yao saw it, went over and asked if it was edible. After receiving an affirmative answer, she wiped off the dirt, put it in her mouth and took a bite. She tasted it and felt that it didn't have much flavor, but it was crunchy and juicy. She could take it back.

So the group dug out the rest and put them into wicker baskets before continuing on their way.

The three of them walked and stopped, and found a lot of food that could be used to fill their stomachs. Among them was the seasoning that Lu Yao had been longing for: wild scallions. With scallions, they could make a lot of delicious food, such as scallion pancakes, scallion flower pancakes, scallion oil noodles, and so on. Just thinking about it made Lu Yao's mouth water.

For safety's sake, the three of them circled the area around the tribe. Osei was worried that if they went too far, they might encounter wild animals, and he wouldn't be able to protect the two of them. These two were key figures in the tribe's protection efforts, and if anything happened to them, he would become a sinner against the tribe. Therefore, no matter what Lu Yao said, he refused to go any further and wouldn't budge.

Lu Yao tried to reason with the Great Witch, but it wouldn't work either. The Great Witch also disagreed with going far away, fearing that if something unexpected happened, she would regret it terribly. So, Lu Yao's idea was rejected by both of them.

None of the wicker baskets were full, and Lu Yao felt it would be a waste to go back like this after all the trouble she had gone out, so she asked.

"Is there a bamboo grove nearby? It should be safe over there, right? Let's go check it out!"

“The bamboo forest isn’t far from here, Osei, why don’t we go take a look?” The Great Shaman knew that Lu Yao hadn’t explored enough yet and wanted to look around to see if she could find more. He had already stopped her once. The bamboo forest had been cleared by the tribe and should be relatively safe, so there was no harm in going to take a look.

“Alright.” Hearing the shaman’s words, Ose, who wanted to return to the tribe, agreed. The three of them then set off again for the bamboo forest.

Along the way, Lu Yao skipped and hopped like a cheerful little bird, smelling pretty flowers and picking them if she liked them, intending to put them in the cave.

Upon seeing the bamboo grove in the distance, Lu Yao exclaimed with delight, "We've arrived! These bamboos are huge!"

The two also spotted the bamboo forest in the distance, and the group quickened their pace to walk over.

"Such a large bamboo forest should have bamboo shoots," Lu Yao thought to herself.

As she got closer, Lu Yao was amazed to see how tall the bamboo was. It was several times larger than any bamboo she had ever seen before. Although she had expected it, she was still shocked to see such large bamboo in person.

After regaining her senses, Lu Yao began searching for bamboo shoots, but lacking any skills, she couldn't find any after searching for a while. Just as she was thinking of going further in, Ou Sai stopped her again.

He said they could only look from the outside and couldn't go in. The bamboo in the bamboo forest was quite large, and they had never been deep into the forest before, so they weren't sure if it was as safe inside as it was outside. If they wanted to go, they would bring enough people later and go in together.

Although Lu Yao was somewhat unhappy, what Ou Sai said was indeed true, so she decided not to delve any further.

On her way back, she unexpectedly spotted a bamboo shoot. It was like searching for a bamboo shoot a thousand times over, only to find it right there in the bamboo grove.

Lu Yao ran over and dug it open to check. After confirming it was a bamboo shoot, she called the two of them over to help. The bamboo here was large, and the bamboo shoot was also quite big. The three of them used a sharp piece of wood to dig for a long time before finally getting the bamboo shoot out. Looking at the giant bamboo shoot in front of them, Da Wu asked.

"Can this be eaten?"

"Maybe? Could it be poisonous?" Lu Yao asked uncertainly.

"No, not at all," the high shaman replied.

“Then you can eat it.” Lu Yao answered affirmatively.

The three of them tidied up the contents of the wicker baskets, emptying out Ou Sai's basket to store the bamboo shoots. After finishing, they began their journey home.
