Chapter 7 Expulsion

Ashitaka paid no heed to the promises the chieftain made to him. Now that he understood his fate, he slowly stood up, drew his dagger, and cut off the topknot of his hair.

As his hair fell down, Ashitaka no longer belonged to the village. This cut severed not only his hair but also his identity. From then on, Ashitaka was considered a dead man by the village.

After doing all this, Ashitaka's face showed neither sorrow nor joy. If there had been any unease before, now there was only calm. This must be what they mean by the greatest sorrow is the death of the heart!

"Ashitaka, please forgive us, but according to custom, no one will see you off. Take good care of yourself!!"

At this moment, Ashitaka no longer cared about so much. The past had no origin, and the future would not return. From beginning to end, he harbored no resentment, or rather, he couldn't do it. This is what makes Ashitaka so tragic!

Ashitaka stopped talking, didn't look at the people, and turned to leave.

After Ashitaka left, the villagers had different expressions: some were worried, some relieved, and some were uneasy. The old man's lips trembled slightly, but in the end, no one called out to Ashitaka.

It wasn't until Ashitaka disappeared from everyone's sight that the group came back to their senses.

"guest..."

"Hehe, you don't need to say anything. Thank you for your hospitality. I'm so sorry for causing you so much trouble!"

Liu Yufei put down the food in his hand and bowed deeply to the high priest. He knew he had no reason to stay, and rather than be driven out by these people, he decided to take his leave.

"Hehe, thanks a lot!!"

Liu Yufei walked straight out and saw Ashitaka leading his Jacques deer out. Seeing Ashitaka now, Liu Yufei felt a little emotional. When he watched this scene as a child, he didn't understand it and always hoped that Ashitaka could come back.

Liu Yufei then leaped forward, and thanks to his improved physical abilities, he didn't slip out this time.

"Guest, this is for you!!"

"Ah! Thank you so much!!"

The villagers were incredibly kind; they even provided him with a deer, which is extremely valuable! It was like giving Liu Yufei a car – they were afraid he wouldn't leave!

"Haha, Ashitaka, a true man's ambition lies in all corners of the world. The road ahead is still long."

Liu Yufei didn't expect his words to comfort Ashitaka; after all, one cannot understand another's suffering without experiencing it firsthand. So Ashitaka remained silent, simply taking out a hood from behind and putting it on. From that day forward, he no longer showed his true face, becoming a wandering, lonely soul.

Liu Yufei didn't stand on ceremony. Although he had never ridden a deer before, he was glad that deer were more obedient than horses, so Ye Wufeng immediately mounted one.

The villagers who had gathered below had all retreated back into their houses. Some were peeking through the cracks in the doors, while others were leaning against the windows, only daring to steal glances at the two people outside.

But they just watched, not daring to speak, for fear of attracting Ashitaka's attention.

Ashitaka, of course, didn't care about any of that. He was already considered an ominous figure, and the villagers were afraid he would bring them trouble. Liu Yufei didn't care either, but curiously looked around. The people immediately closed the door a crack.

Just then, a petite figure darted out.

"elder brother..."

The voices were soft and the footsteps were quick. Ashitaka was initially delighted when he saw who it was, but then he became worried.

"Kaya, go back! You can't do this!!"

Clearly, his heart was filled with more worry than joy at that moment. Kaya immediately presented Ashitaka with a black obsidian dagger, saying:

"I willingly accept the punishment, brother. Forgive me for not being able to go with you. This knife will stay by your side in my place. I..."

As she spoke, Kaya choked up. They were childhood sweethearts, inseparable since they were little, a match made in heaven. But fate had cruelly forced them into this predicament, and all Kaya could do was endure the pain and bid farewell to her beloved.

Looking at everything before him, Liu Yufei recalled how he had wondered back when he was on screen why Kaya hadn't left with Ashitaka.

Back then, he was young and thought that the sanctity of love could withstand the power of worldly forces. But now Liu Yufei knows that the road of life is always full of setbacks, and regrets are the norm.

Ashitaka held the jade dagger in his palm. He felt no pain when the villagers gossiped about him, nor when the priests judged him, but at this moment, an indescribable feeling filled his heart.

It was so excruciating, so painful, as if his previously numbed heart had been awakened, and all the pain came rushing in, only to collapse in an instant. Ashitaka knew he would never see Kaya again in this life.

"Brother, I hope it will protect you and keep you safe, just like my heart..."

Kaya didn't say anything more, because anything she said at this point would only become a burden to Ashitaka, and Ashitaka made no promises, because any promise at this moment would be impossible to keep.

Ashitaka could no longer hold back. He pulled down his mask and faced the girl with his true face.

"Kaya, don't worry, I will miss you all the time!!"

Ashitaka was ultimately just a big boy who made a promise he couldn't keep. If it's a regret, they'll regret it to the end; if it's a tragedy, this tragedy will never end.

Tragedy is the merciless destruction of something beautiful right before your eyes. Even Liu Yufei felt suffocated at this moment, let alone Ashitaka with his eyes gleaming.

Ashitaka was unwilling to show weakness in front of Kaya, especially at this moment, so he immediately rode away from the village where he had lived since childhood. Liu Yufei, as an observer of everything, could only sigh deeply and follow after him.

Soon, Liu Yufei caught up. Ashitaka was not moving fast after leaving the village because he had no goal. A person without a goal walks with an empty pace.

"Young man, your magnificent journey has begun! You might come back once you've resolved everything, so take it easy!!"

Liu Yufei was just talking without understanding the situation. Ashitaka didn't say anything because after the pain, his collapsed heart felt only emptiness, so empty that there wasn't a ripple in it.

Liu Yufei remained silent because he knew that Ashitaka's heart was no longer in pain. When pain reaches its extreme, humans can choose to end their own lives. Liu Yufei had walked that path before, but did not want to walk it again. Ashitaka, however, did not even have the will to end his own life.

Let me see your arm!

Without waiting for his reply, Liu Yufei gently touched his wound with a soft light emanating from his hand.

Ashitaka immediately felt a warm current and quickly unwrapped the bandages on his hands, but the miracle did not happen, and Liu Yufei could only say regretfully:

"It seems I'm helpless against this curse too!!" (Of course, if I could cure it, the story would be over!)

Even if Liu Yufei healed Ashitaka's injuries, it wouldn't change his fate. After all, he wasn't banished because of the curse on his hands, but because of the curse in people's hearts.
