Chapter 25: The Red Keep in Turmoil, Renly and Margaery Tyrell are the First to Enter King's La

Cersei dismissed the meeting and returned to Queen's Tower with her entourage. She ordered the Lannister family knights to prepare wildfires, placing them on Rose Road southwest of King's Landing and also setting up some near the harbor at Blackwater Bay close to King's Landing.

She wanted to teach Baratheon, the first group to try and take over King's Landing, a lesson, forcing the remaining Lannisters in King's Landing to leave, or else she would set the entire city ablaze and have everyone perish with the Lannisters!

Just as Cersei was planning her escape, several Lord Chancellors of the King's Court were discussing welcoming Baratheon back to the throne in a small meeting room in the Red Keep. Whether Baratheon came from the north or the south, they were prepared to offer up the Lannisters in the city in exchange for the King's forgiveness.

Grand Maester Paisell looked at the Gold Robe Commander Genos Slynt and asked, "Can the Kingsguard in the city take down the Lannister Red Robes? We need a price, or a gift, to reaffirm our loyalty to Robert."

Genos Slyther pondered for a moment and said, "If we act quickly enough to prevent our Queen Cersei from gathering her forces, we can take them down."

Grand Maester Paisell looked at Varys the Spider again: "Lord Varys, you don't need to hide anything this time. Tell us as soon as you have any news. We're all fighting for this life and this honor. If we're not united by this now, we'll be the first to be sent to the Seven when His Majesty Robert returns!"

"I have indeed received some information, but whether we can survive after His Majesty Robert returns depends on your wisdom and resourcefulness!"

"Renly has already allied with Rose of the Reach. After receiving news of the war in the Westerlands, he has led the army of House Baratheon of the Stormlands and a portion of the Reach soldiers led by Rose of the Reach northwards. They should arrive in a few days," Varys said calmly.

Varys took a sip of the wine on the table and continued, "There are many things that have been revealed in the North since their army marched south. First, the White Walkers have awakened beyond the Wall and are already killing wildlings to increase their numbers. When the Long Night comes, even if we run to Dorne, we will still be doomed."

"Secondly, it seems the North has found a way to deal with the White Walkers and wights, and apparently even used it in the battle that wiped out our Lord Tywin!"

"Thirdly, I don't know if you know a tavern owner in Winterfell named Bai Ze. It seems that Robb's easy victory over the Western Frontier army during his southward campaign was largely due to his supply of equipment and weapons to the Northern warriors. Moreover! He now has the reputation of being the White Walker terminator that has spread throughout the North. I don't need to elaborate further since you all understand what this means."

"Fourthly, Bai Ze also provided the North with several top-quality weapons comparable to Valyrian steel swords. The one that Ser Jaime brought back from the North was obtained from that Bai Ze boss."

Varys rattled off everything he knew about the North, leaving the other Lord Chancellors staring at him in disbelief. Baelish, too, hadn't expected Varys to know so much without sharing it with them.

After hearing Varys's news, Grand Maester Paisell said, "It seems that this tavern owner is of great importance to the North. I heard that our Hand of the King, Lord Tyrion, was quite familiar with this Lord Bai Ze when he was in the North and at the Wall. It seems that our task of making connections will fall to Lord Tyrion!"

After speaking, Grand Maester Paisell pondered for a moment, then said to Genos Slynt, "Sir Slynt, the task of gathering men to capture those connected to Queen Cersei is entrusted to you. As long as we capture them, we still have a chance to survive. Even if it means going to the Wall, donning black clothes, and becoming members of the Night's Watch, it's better than splitting up and acting on our own from now on!"

After hearing the Grand Maester's words, Genos Slynt knew that whether he could survive after Robert's return depended on the success of this operation.

That very night, he gathered his men and, during the troop rotation, moved them all to the area around the Red Keep's council chamber, preparing to make arrests during the Queen's council meeting the following day.

However, what he didn't expect was that his actions had already been informed of Cersei by the Lannister spies around him. Cersei also wanted to get rid of those around her who were at odds with her all at once. The next day, Cersei deliberately postponed the time of the royal council meeting. After all her red robes had arrived, both sides began their respective actions in the council hall.

After seeing Queen Cersei and Joffrey in place, Genos Slytherin slowly moved a little from the hall entrance toward Cersei. Seeing the Grand Maester nod to him, Slytherin drew his greatsword and shouted, "Attack!"

The golden-robed guards on duty inside and outside the hall instantly drew their swords and rushed towards the Lannister red-robed guards standing behind the Queen at the door.

Just then, the Mountain, accompanied by the other Lannisters in red robes, entered the hall from behind the door, drew his sword, and charged at Slytherin, instantly throwing the hall into chaos.

The Gold Robe wanted to kill all the Red Robes and control the Queen and Joffrey to offer Robert atonement. The Mountain, along with the Red Robes and some Gold Robes bribed by the Lannisters, surrounded all of Genos Slyther's men in the hall from the outside.

Few could withstand the Mountain's skill. In no time, all the golden-robed men that Genos Slynt had brought were dead in the hall. Slynt himself had been slashed several times by the Mountain, losing half an arm and a leg. He looked like a rag doll with missing limbs, a truly pitiful sight.

Genos Slytherin leaned against a pillar in the hall, coughed twice, and looked at Queen Cersei sitting in a chair next to the throne. He finally uttered a curse before he died.

"Bah! Shameless and despicable incestuous Lannister, you are unworthy to be Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. You only deserve to be in the lowest brothel, to be with filthy sailors..."

*Slash!* Before Genos Slint could finish speaking, the Mountain stepped forward and sliced off his head with a single stroke, leaving him unable to utter the last few words.

Cersei didn't even glance at Genos Slynt, turning instead to the Grand Maester, who was trembling and practically sliding under the table, and said in a sinister tone, "Grand Maester, do you know what's wrong with Genos Slynt?"

Grand Maester Paisell trembled as he said, "I'm not quite sure either. Maybe he has his own reasons!" The Mountain walked behind the Grand Maester, looking at the little old man in front of him with a devilish gaze, waiting for Cersei to give the order.

Cersei glanced at the Mountain, waved him off, and pointed outside, signaling him to go outside and deal with the Grand Maester. The Mountain, with Pycelle in one hand, strode out of the council chamber...

A short while later, a not-so-loud scream rang out, indicating that the Grand Scholar had gone to see the Seven Gods. Mo Shan walked in with his hands covered in blood, apparently having crushed the Grand Scholar to death with his bare hands.

Cersei looked at Varys and Baelish, who were just entering through another door. She knew these two were also problematic, but if she killed them both, the entire city of King's Landing would come to a standstill.

Cersei appointed her own captain of the guard as captain of the King's Landing guard, instructed Varys to report any appearances of Baratheon or Northern armies on either the north or south, and ordered Baelish to collect all the money he could find in King's Landing. Then she left the hall with the dimwitted Joffrey.

After everyone in the hall had left, Varys and Baelish looked at each other. Baelish said, "Lord Varys is still so composed. It was as if the news he told Grand Maester Paisell yesterday was a death invitation. The poor Grand Maester had his head crushed by the Mountain. He can no longer use his brilliant mind to teach the Seven Kingdoms!"

Varys, looking at Littlefinger Baelish who had a cryptic remark, also said, "Although chaos is a ladder to ascent, sometimes the power of chaos is too great and can shatter the ladder. Lord Baelish, you must be careful of the ladder you're on. Dancing for an audience in several directions on the ladder, there will always be places that are not being noticed. Be careful not to fall down the ladder!"

The two cunning individuals clashed fiercely in the hall before parting ways. Now is a crucial time to choose sides; if they don't choose the right way out, one step back could lead to an abyss.

 …

South of King's Landing, at the border of the Reach and the Stormlands, outside Green Ancient City, Margaery Tyrell, the Little Rose, greeted Renly Baratheon, who led the army of the Stormlands.

Having already received news of the end of the war in the Westerlands, Olenna Redwyn, the Old Rose, did not hesitate to further deepen her family's relationship with Baratheon.

Robert is inaccessible in the North, and Stannis Baratheon has a wife, making a marriage impossible. Olenna Redwynn, the Old Rose, plans to marry Margaery Tyrell, the Young Rose, to Renly Baratheon as a link between House Tyrell and the royal Baratheon family.

The two were delighted to meet. Renly, who already had an ambiguous relationship with Loras Tyrell, was quite fond of this beautiful young rose who was also connected to Loras Tyrell.

He planned to be the first to enter King's Landing and then declare Margaery Tyrell his Duchess. His brother, King Robert, had already turned green with envy and was getting old. After Robert's death, he, with a large army and the support of the Rose House of Highgarden in the Reach, would certainly be the only choice to become king.

Without wasting time in a lot of noise, the two broke camp and headed north. Now was the time when King's Landing was weak. If they could be the first to reclaim their territory and enter King's Landing, they could still fight for the position of crown prince.

The northward-bound party was spotted by Varys's men on the Kingsroad, to the left of the Kingswood. After this was reported to Queen Cersei, Cersei decided to use Renly as an example for everyone who came to King's Landing afterward.

Cersei had Deadpool wait for Renly's army at the city gate where the fire was lit. Renly, with Margaery Tyrell, rode to the walls of King's Landing. Cersei, Tyrion, Varys, and other important figures of King's Landing stood on the walls. Cersei's plan was both external and internal; she intended to use everyone in King's Landing as leverage for her escape.

Cersei sent a messenger to Renly, saying that she welcomed Lord Lannister of Storm's End into the city. The simple-minded Renly didn't even consider whether there was a conspiracy involved. He only knew that the Lannister army in the West, which Cersei relied on, had been completely wiped out by the wolf packs of the North, and that she had no chance of turning the tide.

Little Rose had a vague feeling that something was wrong. Before she could explain to Renly, she saw an explosion not far behind their two armies. The pale green flames engulfed the Baratheon army that was marching along the King's Road. The explosion spread outwards, and nearly two-thirds of the nearly 8 troops from the Stormlands and the Reach were taken away by a wave of wildfire explosions.

Seeing that she had achieved her goal, Cersei told the guards at the gate to shut down the army and sent a letter to Stannis in the North and on Dragonsnake Island. She only asked that she and the Lannisters be allowed to leave King's Landing. She wanted nothing in King's Landing except for the Lannisters' own property. Otherwise, she would set fire to all the wildfires in the city and make the entire city go down with the Lannisters.

Standing beside Cersei, Tyrion, the Imp, watched the explosions outside the city, then turned to look at the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Everything Cersei was doing made him feel that she had gone mad. She was just like the Mad King who had tried to set the entire city on fire, a terrifying sight.

The explosion started on the side of Rose Avenue, and Renly, who was riding a horse on the left side of the road, was also affected by the blast. His left side was burned, and he looked like a rubber man who was pieced together from the left and right sides. Although he was not dead, he was in shock. The surviving vassals of House Baratheon quickly carried Renly to their maesters and physicians for emergency treatment.

Margaery Tyrell, the Little Rose, who was positioned in the middle of the road, was not affected by the explosion.

Her own knight shielded her from the damage on her right. She was completely engulfed by the explosion, and the screams of those who weren't killed instantly terrified her. She curled up, covered her face with her hands, and murmured silently.

The Highgarden knights of the Reach quickly retreated with Margaery Tyrell, seeking a safe place. They were now in no condition to enter King's Landing; a mere thousand-strong force from King's Landing could easily wipe out all the remnants of them, who had been stunned and burned by the wildfire.

The maesters accompanying the army quickly wrote letters and sent them by raven to King Robert of Winterfell and Stannis Baratheon of Dragonstone, informing them that Renly's army had suffered heavy losses and that Renly was seriously wounded.

The first wave of troops to arrive in King's Landing—Renly Baratheon of the Stormlands and Margaery Tyrell of Highgarden of the Reach—failed to advance into the city!
