Chapter 11 The Boar King's Northern Expedition, and His Encounter with Tyrion Lannister
As evening fell, the king's procession descended the Kingsroad and arrived outside Winterfell. The guards at the city gates continued to let them pass, and the procession continued toward Wolfsburg.
The Stark family members lined up at the entrance to Wolfsburg courtyard to greet the king. The entire procession entered Wolfsburg courtyard, and there were more knights in the procession wearing Lannister red robes and carrying the Lannister banner than those carrying the banner of King Baratheon. It seemed that Robert was made king for the Lannisters.
The courtiers who control the military power in King's Landing are mostly Lannisters, and many of them are Lannister lapdogs. The rest are scheming opportunists like Littlefinger and Varys the Spider.
The only person who could help King Robert, the Hand of the King, is dead. Robert's brother, Renly Baratheon, is just a figurehead in King's Landing. No one is truly on Robert's side. It is nothing short of a miracle that Robert has been able to sit on the Iron Throne for so long with the help of his adoptive father, the Hand of the King, Jon Arryn.
At the end of the procession, King Robert, on horseback, and in a red carriage stopped in front of the Stark family members. Seeing the king dismount, Ned Stark quickly led his family members and a group of guards behind him to kneel down to greet him. Robert waved for Ned Stark to stand up.
The two stood facing each other, their eyes locked.
"You've gained quite a bit of weight!"
Robert looked at Ned and said. Ned Stark didn't reply, but looked Robert up and down for a moment. The two smiled at each other and hugged tightly.
"Nine years! I haven't seen you even once! Where have you been?!"
Robert patted Ned Stark on the shoulder and said.
“I am guarding the North for you, Your Majesty! Winterfell is at your service!” Ned replied.
Robert laughed heartily after hearing this, then looked at the Stark children and greeted them. Robert still cherished the families of his brothers who had fought alongside him through thick and thin. As Robert greeted the Stark members, Queen Cersei Lannister stepped down from her red carriage.
"Your Majesty"
The Starks bowed and greeted Cersei.
"Take me to your cellar; I want to show my respect."
Robert didn't wait for Queen Cersei to say or do anything, and directly called out to Ned.
"We've been traveling for a month already, there's no need to rush to see a dead body!"
When Cersei heard King Robert's words, her tone and beautiful face showed nothing but suppressed anger.
Cersei couldn't stand it anymore. She knew why Robert was going to the crypts: to see Lyanna Stark, the wolf-woman who had once filled her with both anger and jealousy. But Robert ignored Queen Cersei's reaction, called out "Ned Stark" again, and headed straight for the crypts of Wolf's Keep. Ned had no choice but to follow.
Ned watched as Robert stroked the familiar statue...
Is it really necessary to bury her here?
“She is my sister, she belongs here, Your Majesty,” Ned said, looking at the scene before him.
“She belongs to me. Every night I think of that Targaryen bastard, and no amount of killing him will make me forget him!” Robert said through gritted teeth.
"You have killed him, Your Majesty! The Targaryen family is finished!"
Ned could only reply to Robert in the same way.
“But I didn’t kill them all!” Robert said with a murderous look on his face.
“Ned, come south with me! Don’t hide alone at the ends of the earth; there’s no use for you here,” Robert said to Ned earnestly.
Ned Stark opened his mouth, wanting to tell Robert about the White Walkers, but then he remembered what I had told him: unless you see a real ghost, no one will ever believe the truth of the matter. Just as he was about to refuse Robert, Robert interrupted him.
"Lord Ned Stark, I hereby appoint you Hand of the King!"
Ned stared speechlessly at Robert, unsure how to refuse, and could only kneel down and say:
"I'm afraid I'm not up to the task, Your Majesty!"
"No, no, no, I don't want to hear your reasons, Ned. There's no room for negotiation on this. Since you helped me get that iron chair, you have to help me keep it. Stand up!"
Robert didn't give Ned any reason to refuse, and simply stated his reasoning.
Robert looked at the statue of Lyanna Stark and said in a trembling voice:
“If Lyanna were still alive, our two families would be united by marriage. But it’s not too late now; your eldest daughter and my eldest son will bring our families together!”
After saying that, Robert walked out of the cellar on his own, without giving Ned a chance to reply.
Back in the courtyard, Queen Cersei, furious beyond measure, was about to do something, perhaps to make herself feel better, when Jaime Lannister stopped her.
Tyrion Lannister, riding behind, watched his sister's performance with great interest, secretly delighted. He turned to the servants at Wolfsburg and said:
"Where is the best wine? Where are the best women? I'm going to explore the scenery of this northern frontier." With that, he jumped off his horse.
The Stark knight beside Tyrion Lannister said:
"My lord, the best wine is in the Swordsman's Tavern at the left corner of the main street outside Wolfsburg. The wine there will definitely satisfy you; it just depends on whether your wallet can support your appetite."
Tyrion didn't take offense at the Wolfsburg knight's disrespectful tone, and flicked a silver stag at him as a reward. "Someone take me there, let me see the best wine in the North."
"Remember to attend the banquet tonight, Lord Tyrion!"
Ser Jori, who was waiting nearby, beckoned a swordsman who had been to the Swordsman's Tavern to lead Tyrion to the tavern and remind him that there would be a welcome banquet that evening.
Tyrion, who had already walked away, didn't look back, but casually waved his not-so-long hand.
......
Bored, Bai Ze looked at the few people in the tavern and thought about the scene he had just seen outside. He figured that Robert the Boar King had come and that he would definitely take Ned Stark with him when he left.
Oh, and there's Sansa and Arya too. Without Arya helping Ned find the map, he wouldn't have been able to escape. So this can't be stopped. Arya has to go!
But people still need to be saved. Otherwise, Robert could stay alive too, have seen the ugly side of the lion family, and then wipe them all out at once.
Just as I was brainstorming, a familiar, short figure pushed open the tavern door and walked in. Tyrion Lannister, twirling a golden dragon, entered, looked at me behind the bar, and said with a smile:
"Won't you buy me a drink, Lord Bai Ze, the famous lord of the Northern Territory?"
“Of course, the Lion of House Lannister deserves a drink from me!”
Bai Ze looked at Tyrion Lannister with interest. This dwarf in stature but giant in spirit had survived from the first season to the eighth. Anyone without some ability would have turned to dust long ago, but he was still thriving. He was worth befriending.
“Hahaha~ I love what you said, Lion! If my old lion heard you say that about me, he’d be furious, oh! He doesn’t have a beard, hahahahaha.” Tyrion clearly liked my assessment.
I have bottles of Sosia wine for 10 Silver Deer and bottles of Black Tequila for 10 Golden Dragons. I wonder what our Lord Tyrion would like to drink? Of course, ordinary ale is out of the question; it doesn't suit our Lord Tyrion's status.
"Of course I have to try the black tequila; I've heard it's amazing."
As she spoke, she took out a Golden Dragon wine and placed it on the table. Xiao Meng took a bottle of tequila from the shelf, opened it, and poured Tyrion a glass. Bai Ze also picked up a glass.
"Please~"
Tyrion raised his glass in acknowledgment, took a sip, and exclaimed, "Wow! This wine is better than any I've ever tasted. I'm delighted to have such a fine wine. Please accept the respect from the Lannister family!" He then refilled his glass and drank again.
"Lord Tyrion has come to the North for a visit?"
Bai Ze started a conversation. Although he knew Tyrion would pee on the Wall when Robert went south, he still wanted to chat with him a bit more to see if the little devil had any other intentions.
"Of course! King's Landing is nothing new now, it feels like a stinking cesspool. King Robert is coming to the North with the Queen, so I thought I'd take a stroll around and then go to the legendary Wall. I'm going to take a piss on it and fuck the White Walkers and wildlings!"
Tyrion made no attempt to hide his purpose in coming to the North.
"Do you know why Robert came to the North?"
Bai Ze wanted to see if he could find Ned more helpers, in case the situation in King's Landing changed, so that Ned would have more options.
"Isn't it obvious? Our great King Robert has no time for state affairs, the former King's Hand is dead, and King Robert has no time for hunting and finding women. He's here to find someone to do the work!"
As he spoke, Tyrion looked at Bai Ze, wondering what Bai Ze meant by asking this question.
“Oh! If Ned Stark and King Robert march south, I would like Lord Tyrion to lend a helping hand to Lord Ned in King's Landing if he can. I wonder if Lord Tyrion would agree?” Bai Ze said meaningfully.
"Hmm? You're a retainer of Lord Ned Stark?"
Tyrion suddenly found something interesting: a tavern owner was asking someone from the Lannister family to help the Duke of Stark in the North, and Tyrion, who had a knack for entertaining, became interested.
"No, no, no~~ I'm just a wandering swordsman who travels around for fun, oh! And now I'm also a tavern owner!"
Bai Ze said calmly. Tyrion looked at me, puzzled as to why someone who wasn't a vassal of House Stark in the North would be so concerned about Lord Ned, who hadn't even gone south yet, and was already starting to find a way out for him in King's Landing. But Tyrion wasn't the kind of loyal dog to his family; this kind of thing just seemed more interesting to him.
"I don't have many men under my command, you know. I'm a dwarf despised by my father and looked down upon by my sister. Even if Lord Ned were to encounter some trouble in King's Landing, I wouldn't be of much help."
"No rush. If Lord Ned really does head south to King's Landing, we'll talk about it then."
Bai Ze raised his glass to Tyrion, and the two clinked glasses and drank. "So what benefits will I get?" Tyrion asked with some anticipation.
“Before you leave the North, I’ll cover your drinks. Also, you’ve probably heard about the special features of my tavern: weapons comparable to Valyrian steel swords. I wonder if your Lannister family would be interested?” Bai Ze looked at Tyrion with interest.
"Hmm? I've heard about the weapon that rivals the Valyrian steel sword, but are you really going to give it to the Lannister family?"
Tyrion knew about the weapon that had appeared in the tavern, but he also knew that the North's military was not as advanced as that of the southern duchies. Since Bai Ze had chosen to help Ned Stark, why would he give such a precious sword to a family outside the North, especially a Lannister?
"Hmm~ Money can't buy my will. I can do whatever I want with my weapons. Consider this a reward for helping Lord Ned, but I won't give it to you directly."
I've heard that the Queen and Jaime Lannister, the Kingslayer, have come to the North. When King Robert goes hunting in the Wolfwood, have your brother come to the tavern and spar with me. I'll give him my weapon."
"That's a great idea. Okay, I agree."
Tyrion picked up his glass and gestured to Bai Ze. The two clinked glasses, smiled, and drank. Agreement reached!
This would be perfect for saving Bran's legs, getting Jaime out of the way, and then telling a few familiar Wolfsburg guards and Ser Jori to keep an eye on Bran's safety. Let the Three-Eyed Raven go to hell!
Bran was completely possessed by the Three-Eyed Raven and lost his own identity. This is the perfect opportunity to save him.
Tyrion, having thoroughly enjoyed his wine, didn't forget that there would be a dinner party at Wolfsburg that evening. After discussing the drinks with Bai Ze, he left.
…
As evening fell, the banquet hall at Wolfsburg was bustling with activity, but Jon Snow was not among them. He stood alone in the training ground, swinging his sword at a human-shaped target.
"Haven't you killed him yet?"
A voice stopped Jon Snow, and he turned around to see who it was.
Uncle Banyan
Jon Snow excitedly hugged the person who came.
“Kid, you’ve grown up! Why aren’t you going to the banquet?” Benjamin asked, putting his arm around Snow.
"Lady Stark believes that bastards are not worthy to dine with royalty, considering it an insult," Jon Snow said with a helpless expression.
“Well! There’s no such thing on the Wall. In the Night’s Watch, anyone can have a seat!” Benjen Stark said, shaking his head.
Clearly, as a Night's Watch Ranger, he couldn't judge Catelyn's actions; he was merely the Chief Ranger of the Night's Watch, while Catelyn was the Duchess of Winterfell.
